As a keen golfer myself who has risen from a 36 handicap to a 17 in 1 year, i have chnaged my clubs over and over again looking for the perfect club give me great feel, distance and one that when you pick it up looks great, well i believe this club does it all.
Approximately 6 months ago, i was looking for a new 3 wood which gave me as much distance off of the turf (floor) as it did off of the tee, so I went to the local driving range to look for a average price 3 wood that compared to the top brands at the time, this of course being the new nike saquatch and the callaway big bertha. Brousing the shop i came across the Taylormade V-steel priced and £69.99 reduced from £149.99. As a good deal goes i felt drawn in by nearly £100 being reduced fromt he club and decieded to give it ago which wa probably the best decision of the night.
The V-steel is one of the older models from Taylormades collection but still delivers the results you would exspect from a brand new wood. The distance achiveable is far outstretched what i was exspecting, able to hit 250+ off the tee and 230+ off of the floor which will of course vary with golfer and shaft. A distance of 180 yards+ off both tee and floor even into strong head wind with a more lofted ball flight is achiveable which means distance is achievable in all whether conditions
The shaft is made by Taylormade themsleves and weighs 65g which is lighter than many modern shafts avalible and is avalible in a number of flex's, and kick points. I myself own the stiff flex which allows swing speeds of 90-125mph meaning i can swing slower but still again achive distance. (Shaft flex will vary wiht swin speed so if purchasing a new club, speak to a professional).
The club itself looks great and strikes the ball even better. The great thing about this club is when you strike a good ball it lets you know giving a blast of brilliance which sounds great and makes the perfect shot feel even better. The ball flight is consitantly solid and gives a nice mid tragectory meaning that on the course you know the way the ball will fly and land meaning it is good when either having to land the ball on the green or gain any distance.
Shaping the ball is easier done than said with this club as the soft tip and larger club head allow the player to shape the shot with relative ease and comfort without having to alter the swing at all. The clubhead which is low profile (thinner and longer) allows for the miss hits and provides great results even with off center hits that other less forgiving clubs would send anywhere.
The manufactorng of the club shows and is durable, strong and can take a bashing (believe me) with no change in performance or control when hitting the golf ball.
Overall this club far out performed what i had expected it to giving me control, distance, feel and comfort and a great price. One minor flaw in the club is the paintwork on the club head which has started to wear away after only 6 months which is a little early but for obvious reaosns doesn't affect the clubs performance. So if your looking for a new 3 wood or any wood give th V-steel ago, at £69.99 its still one of the best woods on the market, really performs and makes a good shot feel liek a great shot.
