Far from the madding crowd
Advantages: Ultra light, roomy , quick to erect Disadvantages: expensive
...to swill their adventure in big gulps and have a little room to read at night!” Big Agnes
We treated ourselves to this Seedhouse SL3 last year (SL3=super light 3 person). This is the tent we take with us our forays deep into the undergrowth and it was an extravagance as it cost us around £200. That probably sounds a bit steep but it was worth the money because its one of the lightest 3 man tents out there. It weighs in at a svelte 3 lb 15 oz and ... ...difference and the tent is big component of the overall weight. Cutting that weight down means you have more room left for other important items.

Brilliant Outwell Vermont L
Advantages: Space, Durability, Comfort Disadvantages: Weight
In my opinion, this is probably the best Mid to Large tent that you could wish for. Unfortunately, as a previous reviewer wrote, it is rather heavy and although it is easy to erect it does take time as there is an awful lot of pegging down to do. However, once erected, it's like living in a palace, especially when like us, there is only my wife and I. We have weathered some quite severe storms with both wind and rain, where you felt like it was going ...

Quechua Tent
Advantages: Very Easy to put up Disadvantages: Takes a couple of goes to put it away. Easy once you know how
...easy. I also bought a Quechua blow up bed to use with it, the two together were the perfect match. I can't praise these enough I am yet to find a better make of tent. I recommend these to anyone looking for a quick and easy tent. I have also found a really good website to buy them from. www.quechua-tents.com There were so easy to buy from and I got the tent the next day with no hassle. ...

The Gelert Solo - Stubborn in the best possible manner!
Advantages: Lightweight, Small Pack Size, Durable, Attractive Design Disadvantages: Small living/ sleeping space; Flysheet not easily secured to inner; Inner-First pitching
The Gelert Solo is a lightweight, 2-skin tent which is great for cyclists or walkers. It is also good for those campers who enjoy the group camping but not the sleeping in a big tent. You can think of this as a, seperate sleeping space once all the festivities have died down. The inner-first construction can be seen as a disadvantage seeing as the inner is almost completly mesh and would get incredibly wet if you were pitching it in adverse weather ... ...apart. But, come morning, my Gelert Solo was in one piece whereas my companions Gelert Mongoose (basically the same tent just a 2-man version) had sustained damage. The groundsheet will keep dampness out from the ground, and although cnodensation is a big issue in winter, in the summer it's not so bad. One unpredicted advantage must be that the mesh inner is a great way to ease you out of a phobia of creepy-crawleys! Knowing they can't get you is ...

The ups and downs of a family tent.
Advantages: Lots of space for everyone. Disadvantages: No longer made.
The Khyam Michigan 12 was only made in 2007 so can be hard to come by now. But if you are after a large, well set out tent, and you find one of these then grab it whilst you can. The tent is an outer pitch first, or all in one. Personally we leave the inners in place which reduces the pitching time. The tent itself is large and can be difficult and heavy to put up. Saying that I am under 5ft and have limited mobility so if me and hubby can put it ... ...it is pouring down. Khyam did not make a carpet for this tent but we found a Gelert one that fitted nicely. As for the poles, they have withstood plenty of wind. So far after two years of use, only one fibreglass pole has split. This has been repaired and is still holding up. Two spares come with the tent. These 5 poles go across the top with steel ones holding them up at the sides. The tent is 5000HH, and this has again, been put to the test on ...
