The ups and downs of a family tent.
Advantages: Lots of space for everyone. Disadvantages: No longer made.
The Khyam Michigan 12 was only made in 2007 so can be hard to come by now. But if you are after a large, well set out tent, and you find one of these then grab it whilst you can. The tent is an outer pitch first, or all in one. Personally we leave the inners in place which reduces the pitching time. The tent itself is large and can be difficult and heavy to put up. Saying that I am under 5ft and have limited mobility so if me and hubby can put it ... ...it is pouring down. Khyam did not make a carpet for this tent but we found a Gelert one that fitted nicely. As for the poles, they have withstood plenty of wind. So far after two years of use, only one fibreglass pole has split. This has been repaired and is still holding up. Two spares come with the tent. These 5 poles go across the top with steel ones holding them up at the sides. The tent is 5000HH, and this has again, been put to the test on ...

Errected in one minute
Advantages: QUICK to put up, lightweight Disadvantages: A little stuffy.
This tent really does go up in a minute. I bought the tent on this reason alone. I’ve spent to many times arriving at a camp site at dusk and fighting against the light, trying to remember where I put the pegs and hoping I don’t have the tent inside out. Sound familiar?
The tent is water proof, light weight and is very easy to carry in a small bag with handles that don’t cut into your hands – another common failing with tents. ... ...festival car park to the camping area.
The only problem I have found is that it’s a little hot in the morning. The ventilation is in the roof but doesn’t seem to ventilate enough to clear a hangover at a festival but then again, what does?
The tent comes with a patch kit and seam sealant. These are small enough to carry in the bag so if you have any unforeseen rips, you’re covered.
As for size, its spacious for one and but a ...

Yipee khyam
Advantages: Its sooo easy Disadvantages: none that I've found yet
...to review it.
The khyam rapidex ridgi dome system is revolutionary, gone are the days of feeding the poles through the canvas before you can put it up, or standing inside a tent holding it still while someone else does the boy scout thing and pulls the canvas over the top. Essentially the main body of the ridgi dome tent is permanantly attached to the canvas and it has quick release joints that just pop into place, once this is done the tent is ... ...have a tent that is essentially the size of an old fashioned ridge tent, with plenty of room to stand up inside without hitting your head on the roof (unless you're 6.5 foot) that can be erected in 5 minutes flat. This accounts for the main living area then the bedrooms are attached on separately with more conventional tent poles, but even so there are only 5 per bedroom and they are very easy to put into place. The bedroom inner sections are then ...

The Gelert Solo - Stubborn in the best possible manner!
Advantages: Lightweight, Small Pack Size, Durable, Attractive Design Disadvantages: Small living/ sleeping space; Flysheet not easily secured to inner; Inner-First pitching
The Gelert Solo is a lightweight, 2-skin tent which is great for cyclists or walkers. It is also good for those campers who enjoy the group camping but not the sleeping in a big tent. You can think of this as a, seperate sleeping space once all the festivities have died down. The inner-first construction can be seen as a disadvantage seeing as the inner is almost completly mesh and would get incredibly wet if you were pitching it in adverse weather ... ...apart. But, come morning, my Gelert Solo was in one piece whereas my companions Gelert Mongoose (basically the same tent just a 2-man version) had sustained damage. The groundsheet will keep dampness out from the ground, and although cnodensation is a big issue in winter, in the summer it's not so bad. One unpredicted advantage must be that the mesh inner is a great way to ease you out of a phobia of creepy-crawleys! Knowing they can't get you is ...

Excellent Family Tent
Advantages: Spacious, easy to erect Disadvantages: Fairly bulky, only for car touring
I have owned this tent for a couple of years, and can honestly say it's one of the best I have owned. There are some great deals out there for this tent now, and at around £150 it's an absolute bargain. Easy to put up, the only thing I would say is that you do need to peg all the guy lines out. On a balmy summers day I decided not connect them all, and it was noticeable when the wind picked up. As soon as they were all hammered in, the tent was steady ...
