kayma indiana 8 / campus indiana 8
Advantages: lots of living space great head hight Disadvantages: thin poles and unable to with stand wind! lots of movement
my self and my parnter brought this tent because of the excellent amount of living space with a combined camping experience of over 30 years we both know how important putting the tent up just right really is, So after taking 2 hours to make sure that the tent was put up right it then collapsed with a gentle breeze tent poles snapped and ripped the tent ! would not advise this tent to anybody ! dont be taken in by the massive living space avoid at ...

Khyam Colorado Tunnel tent.
Advantages: Size, waterproof - quick to erect for size - smaller to carry/load compaired to others. Disadvantages: Pole ropes dodgy(?), tricky to shut zip without adjusting pegs, need to tether v. well.
This is our second Khyam tent as we loved the quick-erect system.
Generally we are pleased with it due to its size (family of four) - if the weather is rainy there is plenty of room. We used it last summer when the floods happened and it was also quite windy. It witheld the rain excellently - it is highly rainproof - another reason why we bought it.
On the negative side we have had the inner cables (ropes) go twice on the main poles. You can fix ... ...hassle and no expense but I query if there is a weakness here. It can also be quite tricky to set up perfectly to ensure the zip closes on the front door again due to its size - this gets easier with practise.
The only other comment is that when we used it in some quite high winds (floods again!) you need to tether it very well - it held well but due to its size (and the strength of the winds) it bends a lot in strong winds. It is advisable to get ...

Tourer Tourer Tourer
Advantages: Easy to erect, quality tent. Disadvantages: Pricey for some.
...also is very waterproof and Khyam supply a repair kit and a selection of spare parts with each tent. We also bought the relevant footprint groundsheet which would be a wise investment to help protect such a great tent.
Price and availability:
When packed away, which is also an easy process, the tourer 400 packs down into a quite small bag considering its size when pitched, although some may need two to lift the bag as it is relatively heavy.
Khyam ... ...really do get what you pay for with them. Our nearest camping shop had them at what we thought was a reasonable price but we saved a further £40 by searching and shopping online. Some retailers also offer seconds at a cheaper price again. These seconds are not damaged but are ex showroom or demonstrator models. As such they are only available in limited amounts and sell out very quickly. If you do get one you will have secured a genuine bargain.

The Gelert Solo - Stubborn in the best possible manner!
Advantages: Lightweight, Small Pack Size, Durable, Attractive Design Disadvantages: Small living/ sleeping space; Flysheet not easily secured to inner; Inner-First pitching
The Gelert Solo is a lightweight, 2-skin tent which is great for cyclists or walkers. It is also good for those campers who enjoy the group camping but not the sleeping in a big tent. You can think of this as a, seperate sleeping space once all the festivities have died down. The inner-first construction can be seen as a disadvantage seeing as the inner is almost completly mesh and would get incredibly wet if you were pitching it in adverse weather ... ...apart. But, come morning, my Gelert Solo was in one piece whereas my companions Gelert Mongoose (basically the same tent just a 2-man version) had sustained damage. The groundsheet will keep dampness out from the ground, and although cnodensation is a big issue in winter, in the summer it's not so bad. One unpredicted advantage must be that the mesh inner is a great way to ease you out of a phobia of creepy-crawleys! Knowing they can't get you is ...

The ups and downs of a family tent.
Advantages: Lots of space for everyone. Disadvantages: No longer made.
The Khyam Michigan 12 was only made in 2007 so can be hard to come by now. But if you are after a large, well set out tent, and you find one of these then grab it whilst you can. The tent is an outer pitch first, or all in one. Personally we leave the inners in place which reduces the pitching time. The tent itself is large and can be difficult and heavy to put up. Saying that I am under 5ft and have limited mobility so if me and hubby can put it ... ...it is pouring down. Khyam did not make a carpet for this tent but we found a Gelert one that fitted nicely. As for the poles, they have withstood plenty of wind. So far after two years of use, only one fibreglass pole has split. This has been repaired and is still holding up. Two spares come with the tent. These 5 poles go across the top with steel ones holding them up at the sides. The tent is 5000HH, and this has again, been put to the test on ...
