Reviews of Tents »
The ups and downs of a family tent.
Advantages: Lots of space for everyone. Disadvantages: No longer made.
The Khyam Michigan 12 was only made in 2007 so can be hard to come by now. But if you are after a large, well set out tent, and you find one of these then grab it whilst you can. The tent is an outer pitch first, or all in one. Personally we leave the inners in place which reduces the pitching time. The tent itself is large and can be difficult and heavy to put up. Saying that I am under 5ft and have limited mobility so if me and hubby can put it ... ...it is pouring down. Khyam did not make a carpet for this tent but we found a Gelert one that fitted nicely. As for the poles, they have withstood plenty of wind. So far after two years of use, only one fibreglass pole has split. This has been repaired and is still holding up. Two spares come with the tent. These 5 poles go across the top with steel ones holding them up at the sides. The tent is 5000HH, and this has again, been put to the test on ...

Light (always) & Cheap (not always)!
Advantages: Easy pitching, good air circulation, lightweight, DAC poles, internal pockets, reflective guylines, compression sac. Disadvantages: The mesh door provides good air circulation but some times makes the tent too chilly.
I bought this fantastic tent just for £164.99 (the original price was £249.99) few months ago for two reasons; weight (2.2kg) and fantastic price. I used it several times at the Lakes and once in the mountain Olympos (Greece). Some pros were things like easy pitching, good air circulation, lightweight, fantastic DAC poles, internal pockets to store things like your head torch, reflective guylines (to avoid night accidents), and compression sac. However ... ...but some times that makes the tent too chilly. Once it was so windy and chilly that we finally slept with our heads at the tale of the tent and that had as result a very uncomfortable night. So, in cold weather make sure that you have a good sleeping bag (I recommend a 3-4 seasons bag). Moreover you should buy the ground sheet in order to protect your investment and also buy some extra pegs just in case because the tent is coming with the minimum ...

The Gelert Solo - Stubborn in the best possible manner!
Advantages: Lightweight, Small Pack Size, Durable, Attractive Design Disadvantages: Small living/ sleeping space; Flysheet not easily secured to inner; Inner-First pitching
The Gelert Solo is a lightweight, 2-skin tent which is great for cyclists or walkers. It is also good for those campers who enjoy the group camping but not the sleeping in a big tent. You can think of this as a, seperate sleeping space once all the festivities have died down. The inner-first construction can be seen as a disadvantage seeing as the inner is almost completly mesh and would get incredibly wet if you were pitching it in adverse weather ... ...apart. But, come morning, my Gelert Solo was in one piece whereas my companions Gelert Mongoose (basically the same tent just a 2-man version) had sustained damage. The groundsheet will keep dampness out from the ground, and although cnodensation is a big issue in winter, in the summer it's not so bad. One unpredicted advantage must be that the mesh inner is a great way to ease you out of a phobia of creepy-crawleys! Knowing they can't get you is ...

My little two person tent.
Advantages: Easy to pitch Disadvantages: everyone else at Glastonbury festival has one
Time to get the tent out and make sure everything is in tiptop condition. It is Glastonbury in 4 weeks time and we use our Euro hike tent.
Our tent is about 4 or 5 years old cost about £40 it is a green 2-man tent, yes it is big enough for 2 Adults and a child a bit of a squeeze but fine for a night or 2.
The tent comes in a bag with handles fairly light, (cant find spec on wieght)easy to carry.
This Euro hike tent is easy to put up. There is ... ...which you slide into place, and an inner skin, which you fix to the outer tent with lots of toggles; this inner tent has ground sheet attached already. There are tent pegs to fix the tent to the ground to stop it blowing away.
It takes me 15 minutes to put it up on my own (I timed myself last year) Less time with another.
Yes it is waterproof! We have used it at Glastonbury in the rainstorms. A hint if you are going to Glasto and it looks like ...

Errected in one minute
Advantages: QUICK to put up, lightweight Disadvantages: A little stuffy.
This tent really does go up in a minute. I bought the tent on this reason alone. I’ve spent to many times arriving at a camp site at dusk and fighting against the light, trying to remember where I put the pegs and hoping I don’t have the tent inside out. Sound familiar?
The tent is water proof, light weight and is very easy to carry in a small bag with handles that don’t cut into your hands – another common failing with tents. ... ...festival car park to the camping area.
The only problem I have found is that it’s a little hot in the morning. The ventilation is in the roof but doesn’t seem to ventilate enough to clear a hangover at a festival but then again, what does?
The tent comes with a patch kit and seam sealant. These are small enough to carry in the bag so if you have any unforeseen rips, you’re covered.
As for size, its spacious for one and but a ...
