Reviewing The Resistance (+DVD)

Advantages: Adds greater depth to the listening experience.
Disadvantages: Costs slightly more than the version without the DVD.

Firstly, what makes this different from buying just the CD is the inclusion of "The making of The Resistance" DVD. This DVD, by first appearances is a combination of poor camera work, awkward camera angles and fairly poor quality, but realising it's home-made nature is part of it's innate charm. The menu screen is designed to be in the style of a retro computer, mimicked in the credits with the scrolling text. From the start, Muse provide a comic view of their experiences in the studio recording of their latest album, The Resistance. The DVD is laid out according to the album track listing, splicing shots of the individual members playing their parts with discussion regarding content and style, as well as debating the effects and cutting of the track. The Firm

Advantages: Realistic. Excellent
Disadvantages: Bit pricey

Th film was made for the BBC in 1984 directed by Alan Clarke. Alan Clarke was quite a well known director for controversial, violent films with such pieces under his belt as 'Scum' about a youth prison and 'Elephant' about the troubles in Northern Ireland. THE STORY Clive 'Bex' Bissel (Gary Oldman) is a man of some success; he has a good job as an estate agent; he's happily married and he has a baby son. Outwardly he looks like just a normal guy getting on with life. But when Bex isn't working or at home he has another passion than the mundane he is the leader of firm if football hooligans called the Inter-City Crew (ICC) a violent mob with enemies amongst other firms who all meet on a regular basis after matches to beat the hell out of each other. However, there's a new agenda on the field as England is going to Germany ...

Review of The Firm (Special Edition) (DVD)

Hard to resist!

Advantages: Sheer musical genius, classical music excerpts, unique
Disadvantages: Those who dislike classical music may not appreciate it as much.

Muse are, in my opinion, rock gods and I loved every album they've produced to date. I consider Matt Bellamy a musical genius of the (rubbishly named) 'noughties' decade (of course I say this whilst also being aware the the talent of his bandmates too). As I was so busy in America this summer I kind of had my head in the sand and so it was a big surprise to see another Muse album on the shelves. Muse are a band that are going from height to height, firmly establishing a reputation as a staggeringly brilliant band and this album seems to be as good if not even more fantastic than their previous releases... *~ The Tracks~* 1. UPRISING The album opens with a song that has Muse stamped all over it - the electronic backing, the epic guitar instrumentals and striking lyrics. This is a song full of attitude and self-importance that ...
