Advantages: Great story, great acting Disadvantages: Probably only worth watching a few times
and turns in the film, such as finding love notes, people spying and informing on others for their own ends and the classic eavesdropping without having understood the whole conversation.
Special mentions must go to Eddie Izzard for his Charlie Chaplin - capturing the essence of the character without trying to impersonate him and doing a great "dad at a wedding" version of the Charleston, and Joanna Lumley as the "been there, done that" haughty author with a fantastic line in biting comments and some great raised eyebrow faces.
Also on the DVD are 2 short documentaries about the making of the film, including interviews with the cast, Peter Bogdanovich, the writer and various other production staff, along with showing how certain scenes were shot. These sections were very interesting as Bogdanovich heard the story of the events of the film ...

The Merrie England Bar and the amusement arcade are still there, or at least they were during my most recent visit in September 2008.
One of the other main attractions on The North Pier is The North Pier Theatre. This stands on the far end of the pier close to the location of the original jetty. It dates from 1939 and can seat up to 1,500 people. The North Pier Theatre is actually the third theatre to stand on this same spot, both of its predecessors having succumb to fire. The original theatre was built in 1874 and destroyed by fire in 1921. The second theatre, built shortly ...
