Lat night I was in need of watching something light and funny. Searching the shelves of my local video shop I spotted Step brothers starring Will Ferrell and decided to give it a try.

Advantages: Well written and engaging with excellent characterisation and a good plot Disadvantages: Over too quickly! Abrupt ending which is not altogether satisfying
should in anyway suggest, however, that there isn?t ample action, drama, tension and even violence in Small Steps, just that these are supporting elements to main thrust of the narrative which is about the struggles of a group of young teenagers trying to find their place in an adult world. In that sense there?s nothing truly original about the book, but Louis Sachar is a master craftsman when it comes to creating and sustaining interest in his central characters.

The plot moves swiftly and there is little time for reflection as circumstances conspire to whisk our characters towards the dramatic climax. As a result you may feel a little breathless when finishing the book, and the real weight of the story remains with you for days after you?ve finished reading it.

Last night I sat down to watch Step Brothers after being told by a friend, who has a similar sense of humour to me, that it was pretty funny and worth a watch.
Story
-------
Brennan (Will Ferrell) and Dale (John C Reilly) are two 40 year old who still live at home with their parents. Dale's dad and Dale have been living together Dales' whole life, Dale doesn't work and loves the lifestyle of being able to do what he wants when he wants, especially jamming on his drum kit.
Brennan is a slightly more sensitive character having been raised by his mother his whole life and likes still being looked after even though he is middle aged.
When Dale and Brennan's parents hook up and get married, both of the boys (I say boys, meaning men!) have to learn to share and get along as step brothers. Initially ...
