This is the ultimate camping mat. When i first set my eyes on this product i was sceptical about the price. I had seen foam mats for £10, and seeing this for £60 i couldnt imagine myself buying one. But i did, and i have never looked back!
When backpacking for the first time, you try your best to get most things right. Spending alot of money on one product will save you spending money on alot of other cheaper products, but you will always end up purchasing the creme de la creme, and this Therm-a-rest is just that.
Its pack-size is amazing for what it is. No other mat can offer the same thickness (2.5cm fully inflated) for the smallest pack size of 28cmx15cm, which for a sleeping mat is tiny. Weighinhg in at 578grams is lightInflating is a ease by just opening the valve and blowing air into the valve slowly and in-frequently, as the mat should inflate itself after some time. Deflating is easy, all you do is undo the valve, fold the mat in half and press down as you roll the mat up, and then making sure all air is out, redo the valve up and slip the stuff sack over the therm-a-rest. One note, if you are going to keep your therm-a-rest stuffed away for some time, take the mat out of the stuff sack, open the valve and store it somewhere, under the bed perhaps!
One negative though, is if you are in a 2 man tent on your own, you tend to have a lot of room, and by using a therm-a-rest with a sleeping bag, you can slide right off the therm-a-rest. The best use this mat can get is in a one man tent where the space is not so generous. Also, the cost at £60, but if your a member of the YHA etc, you can always get 10% off at most outdoor stores!
