The strap is 30m water resistant, but they say that in the water the transmission might not be as good as normal. So I would not recommend this particular model if you are a swimmer ... ...
If, like me, you hand the watch on some thing, not on your wrist, it's ok. I'm a drummer and I like to put the watch in front of me. The transmission doesn't suffer at all if the distance is under 2m.
The watch is made strong. I've broker ALL the watch I've possess, but I think that this one will last, as the "wrist band/bracelet" is incorpoted to the watch. (So you can't replace it)
