A very good, practical, reliable torch
Review of Petzl Tac Tikka Head Torch by
alimason
Advantages: bright for its size, stands up to the elements
Disadvantages: not as bright as other models
I have had this headtorch for several years now and it has been used on many expeditions. It has been vital on mnay ocassions and for its size it has prooved to be extremely bright. It has withstanded many a nights driving rain and snow. I also think that the torch is remarkably good value, and it remains so as the batteries do not need replacing all that often, (usually after several weekends worth of use). Of course i have also found difficulties ... ...to some other torches it can be rather dull, but that is a small comprimise to pay for its size. Another difficulty i encountered was it rarely operates at full capacity, because as soon as the batteries loose a portion of the power the brightness starts to dwindle. However it has been brilliant on over 20 weekends away when it has needed to be use for many hours at a time. ...

One of the best all-round head torches
Review of Petzl Myo XP Head Torch by
alimason
Advantages: extremely bright, battery warning light, relatively light
Disadvantages: rather expesive, does have a larger battery pack than other models
I bought this head torch for a round the world tour this year and it held up wonderfully. At first it seems a very expensive product and in many respects it is - you are lucky to get it for less than $100 or 50 quid. However within a few weeks of using it you realise its worth.
Unlike previous head - torches i have owned this one came with a separate battery back, containing 3 AA batteries, which is connected to the strap and sits at the back of ... ...cumbersome and annoying but in fact, when wearing it, you don't even realise it is there.
Apart from the the 2 possible negative aspects of price and the battery pack , listed above, i really cannot think of any other downsides, however the advantages are numerous as i will detial below:
1. It has a useful little LED which flashes different colours according to the amount of battery power left - a very useful addition, especially when torches easily ...

North Star = Bright Star
Review of Coleman Electric Northstar Lantern with Night Light by
classicwhiskey
Advantages: Build Quality and Ease of use
Disadvantages: Ca be Expensive
I purchased on of these last year on e-bay for £65.00 and I find it brilliant in every sense fantastic light and burn time super stable base and fuel available all over the world.
I run mine on unleaded with no problems. Easy to light with electronic starter however a word of warning if you overfill the lamp. (Very easy to do) You will flood the electronic starter causing it to break when you light the lamp a new one costs about £13.00. I learnt ...

LJJames
Advantages: Very bright, adjustable beam focus, spare bulb, heavy and robust
Disadvantages: none
...on and off with a a rubber button on the shaft with reassuring clicks. Click on, click off.
I never go camping without it. This torch can be complimented by other smaller torches in the maglite range as they are all very robust. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone. ...

A Superb Little Torch!
Review of MagLite Mini MagLite AA Flashlight by
ivytoad
Advantages: Waterproof, shockproof, great design, bright
Disadvantages: None!
I bought my maglite a couple of years ago. Since I do quite a lot of camping and going to music festivals, I thought it would be a good idea to invest in a good torch to see me through my camping adventures!
The maglite comes in a black plastic protective case. The case is rectangular in shape, it is about 17cm in length and 10cm in breadth and probably about 3cm thick. It has 'Mini Maglite' written across the front of it. This opens up to reveal ... ...instructions that come with the maglite are detailed and easy to follow and tell you everything you need to know (though really putting batteries in a torch and turning it on doesn't require too much reading!) The warrantee is also included in the instructions.
The maglite is not too heavy, being made of aluminium, and is easy to carry around therefore making it a great camping accessory. The bottom of the maglite screws open so that you can put ...
