Advantages: Small, Compact, Lightweight, Affordable. Disadvantages: Get's a bit hot when cooking.
I go camping a lot! It would be fair to say that I enjoy it, very much! So it won't suprise you to learn that I love checking out camping shops for little gadgets or something new to experiment with.
When it comes to going away, you want to reduce the bulk of whatever you're taking. Even more so when camping, because if you're camping properly you want to go back to basics as much as you can!
This cookset made by Eurohike is brilliant! It's desgin means that you can easily nest each pot and pan inside one another to create a small bundle. Very space saving, very practical. A travel/carry bag is provided with the set.
Made of Aluminium, this cookset is very light. An obvious downside to being made of metal however, is the heat conducting qualities. So when cooking with the set you need to be constantly aware of how hot it may be ...
Some products deliver a task well. Others deliver the same task exceptionally on all fronts, this is the case with a Trangia.
I have owned my Trangia since 1983 (!) and except for replacing a lost pan handle and a lost saucepan it is still performing to the same standards.
Trangia now come in many formats - large and small, standard pans, teflon coated none stick frying pans, dual layered pans for increased thermal conductivity and are now available to be used with gas rater than the traditional methylated spirits. I have used several different version but the most important aspect of them all is their ease of use and transportability.
The Trangia is stable and gives out excellent heat for a long time (up to an 3/4hour, dependant on setting, on one fill of meths).
The packing system of pans, burner, windshield, kettle ...
Advantages: Light, unbreakable Disadvantages: Slower to boil, lack of fine flame control
I have had my Trangia since 1989 after several years of experience using them and it is as good as the day I bought it. They are robust, and will last a lifetime. Unlike most liquid or gas stoves, the burner has no moving parts. Just fill with Methelated Spirits, (some water, to reduce sooting) and light with a match. The heat of the flame causes the fuel vapour to rise up the side channels of the burner and out through the small holes at the top. The rest of the stove looks like two pans, one inverted with air holes holds the burner, the second - the windshield holds the pan / frying pan.
Once the burner is cool, you can seal it up with a cap. The O-rings are still good, and it has never leaked on me. On top of the lid you can store the flame control. This is a guard that sits over the burner and restricts the flame. There is ...

This cookset is made from aluminium for light weight and durability and has a hard surface that is resistant to scratches. It conducts heat quickly and uniformly to help prevent food burning in the centre of the pans. The set includes a stove, 2 1.0 litre saucepans in graded and ungraded aluminium, an 18cm frying pan, 2 windshields - upper and lower, a spirit burner, a handle and a strap. The whole set weighs only 850g.
