Morphy Richards Rice cooker - Too clever for me!

Advantages: An easy way to cook rice dishes
Disadvantages: Not suitable for small families due to the minimum cooking quantity

A few months ago I read a review about a rice cooker and thought that, yes I could do with one of them. I settled on the Morphy Richards 48744 as to be honest that was the only one offered on the fact finders website and I thought I would use up some of my points. . The Rice and Pasta cooker is a mirrored silver colour with black handles with a toughened glass lid with a black handle and a steam hole. The cooker is 21 cm high without lid or 24cm with the lid and 28cm in diameter plus handles makes it 36cm. The cable is 90cm long. It fits nicely into one of my top wall mounted kitchen cabinets if the lid is turned upside down. The cooker is supplied with a pasta cooking pad, which is like a round piece of clear/white rubber with holes in it, a plastic measuring beaker and a small plastic white spatula. Inside the machine is a large ...

Trangia - the stuff of legends

Advantages: Lightweight, compact, tough, ready for anything
Disadvantages: None - really.

Some products deliver a task well. Others deliver the same task exceptionally on all fronts, this is the case with a Trangia. I have owned my Trangia since 1983 (!) and except for replacing a lost pan handle and a lost saucepan it is still performing to the same standards. Trangia now come in many formats - large and small, standard pans, teflon coated none stick frying pans, dual layered pans for increased thermal conductivity and are now available to be used with gas rater than the traditional methylated spirits. I have used several different version but the most important aspect of them all is their ease of use and transportability. The Trangia is stable and gives out excellent heat for a long time (up to an 3/4hour, dependant on setting, on one fill of meths). The packing system of pans, burner, windshield, kettle ...

Trangia, indestructable stove

Advantages: Light, unbreakable
Disadvantages: Slower to boil, lack of fine flame control

I have had my Trangia since 1989 after several years of experience using them and it is as good as the day I bought it. They are robust, and will last a lifetime. Unlike most liquid or gas stoves, the burner has no moving parts. Just fill with Methelated Spirits, (some water, to reduce sooting) and light with a match. The heat of the flame causes the fuel vapour to rise up the side channels of the burner and out through the small holes at the top. The rest of the stove looks like two pans, one inverted with air holes holds the burner, the second - the windshield holds the pan / frying pan. Once the burner is cool, you can seal it up with a cap. The O-rings are still good, and it has never leaked on me. On top of the lid you can store the flame control. This is a guard that sits over the burner and restricts the flame. There is ...
