I have had my Trangia since 1989 after several years of experience using them and it is as good as the day I bought it. They are robust, and will last a lifetime. Unlike most liquid or gas stoves, the burner has no moving parts. Just fill with Methelated Spirits, (some water, to reduce sooting) and light with a match. The heat of the flame causes the fuel vapour to rise up the side channels of the burner and out through the small holes at the top. The rest of the stove looks like two pans, one inverted with air holes holds the burner, the second - the windshield holds the pan / frying pan.
Once the burner is cool, you can seal it up with a cap. The O-rings are still good, and it has never leaked on me. On top of the lid you can store the flame control. This is a guard that sits over the burner and restricts the flame. There is a sliding disk, which can progressively shut down or extinguish the flame. Also in the kit you will get two pans, possibly a kettle and finally a pair of pan handles (like scissors) . The pan sizes depend on the size of the stove.
Downsides - The flame control is not the easiest to master, as you need to remove the windshield/pan then use the pan holders to knock the flame control to the desired position. That said, I mostly use the stove to boil then simmer. Also if you have come from a one of the more hi-tech stoves you will probably find that it does take longer to boil.
The clincher - I have toured Iceland with this stove and it never let me down. Unlike the Coleman’s stove, which was rendered useless due to all the dust that got into the seals.
A word of warning, make sure that you can buy the fuel wherever you are going and make sure that you use a proper fuel can. I once took the plastic bottle from a Chemist out on a trek and the bottle cracked. My sleeping bag soaked up a cup of meths, the sickly sweet smell lasted all night and we all woke up with a hangover (but still with our vision)

If it aint broke, don't fix it. The Trangia has been around for donkeys! Good advice about the fuel as you won't be able to take any on a plane. Sam.

I reckon people have been bloody mean with their ratings - boo :o/ I love our Trangia, we often take it when we go out hiking/camping. We're getting the stainless steel frying pan and kettle this Christmas, though. Maybe you could mention that you can get alu or stainless pans, and also an indication of price? Otherwise, very good op. Keep it up!
