The 1000 is serious value for money. The frame uses the same geometery as was used for 7 timeTour ... ...for him ... However the material is clearly not carbon but Aluminium however the from Fork is carbon and 2006 version also has a carbon seatpost, i beleve they have phased this out in the 2007 edition.
The Gear setup is pretty low end. Sora Shifters, Tiagra Rear mech, and shimano standard everything else. However you do get what you pay for and for entry -intermediate level rider this shoud be quite enough to get you going. If you ... more

If you really can't bear some of the components the frame is worthy of upgrades.
Wheels have been reported as the worst part of the bike and spoke breakages are a frequently reported problem but I'm 14st and I haven't yet had any problems.
The brakes will stop you in good time ... Do you need anything else???
The short of it is this bike is good enough to get you to work or carry you the 112 mile leg of an Ironman triathlon, sure there are cheaper components but unless you are an Elite Rider it probably wont make much of a difference to your riding experience.
TOP TIP: BUY THE 2006 1000 AS IT IS, IN MY OPINION A BETTER RISE AND YOU'LL PROBABLY GET A GOOD DISCOUNT. I ACTUALLY GOT MINE FOR £399.00 (JEJAMES.CO.UK)

I bought the 2006 model with a triple a few months ago. For around £500 it's a great bike. I was looking at the Specialized Allez, the Trek1000 and the Reno, but went for the Lemond for it's better components and good looks. The geometry suits me well. I needed a 61 cm frame as I am 6'4''. It's not an all-out racing bike but good enough for my level of riding. Very good on long rides (100 milers and such). Have not had any back aches after lang rides as I had on other bikes previously. The Bontraeger SSL wheel set it came with seems to hold out pretty well too, but I have seen it with the Select wheel set in the shops, which I personally would try to avoid. ...

and seat post felt very strangely powerful and stiff. The feel of a road bike, even an entry level one like this, is totally different than other bikes and takes some getting used to, a good number of miles. The wheels that the bike arrived with would not be my preference - I've used Bontrager wheels before, and while they are very strong and sturdy they are not teh quickest and have poor aerodynamics compared to more expensive options. I tend to stay away from the bottom end brake pads, as I've heard reports of brake pads melting under extreme breaking with the cheaper composite versions, so i at least go for a mid proce range version (always keep a spare set in the saddle bag for long rides). I've never experiecned any snaking with this bike so far, which I found a problem descending with my previous Trek1000, and I've reached speeds of 80 ...
