Advantages: Great Price, Great Components, Super Reliability Disadvantages: None whatsoever
...up fine and so far (1 week later) there have been no mechanical issues from it arriving. This is actually unusual for bikes as the transportation can knock the gear mechanism out of line easily, which means quite a lot of fiddling with allen keys and screw drivers to correct.
The bike arrived as is normal with no pedals so rather than put my old pedals on from my other bike I opted to buy some new Look PP27 pedals which weigh in at 360g for the pair. I also opted for an Bontrager Race X Lite saddle as an upgrade - of course saddle selection is a very personal choice because comfort is paramount when you get on a great bike like this - you'll find yourself wanting to cycle longer and further than before!!

Advantages: Top Quality, first class frame Disadvantages: a few cheap components
...on these days for disc brakes but for me you just don't need them for day to day stuff. If you have the Trek 8000 you wont need them, unless you plan to hammer down a cliff face at 60 mph in the rain. The new models of the 8000 can come with discs but at a price. In general the bike looks really good. The overall geometry of the bike makes it look like a proper racer, ready to travel anywhere.
THE RIDE

Advantages: Good re-introduction to road bikes Disadvantages: expense and pedals
...handlebars or a drop handle bar proper road bike, with tyres so thin I could up up stuck in a drain grating.
The Trek1.2 Double won the day after a very generous discount from the dealer.
The list price is £499 and I can't tell you publicly how good the reduction was! - but it was amazing - thanks Dave and Chris.
3 The Vital Details
If you look on the Trek site you will get the technical details of the bike among their glittering 2008 productions.
Some of the spec details would be meaningless to you - as some are still to me.
But the details that affected my choice and my experience include the following.
The Double is not a reference to the drink needed before venturing out on to the public highway, but to the double gear wheel on the front of the chainset, which results in doubling the back 8 gears to make 16 altogether.
A triple...
