Advantages: good all round performance Disadvantages: slighly heavy
sometimes forget to turn it back and find myself going downhill without any damping! The BAR 2.1 is also the same in allowing you to vary the reboud adjustment.
Ride and handling are solid and the bike has shrugged off the odd crash with no problems. The Shimano Deore hydraulic brakes work well and give lots of control is these situations!.
The only slight problem I've had was the front derailleur in pushing the chain across to the big chainring, but managed to fix this after a bit of fiddling.
For the future, I'll probably upgrade the cranks to XT (being lighter and more smoother than the Shimano M440 fitted) and also the forks to 120mm travel. (The higher spec Fuel 90 has the RockShox Recon 351 U-Turn which is 85-130mm, so I know my frame can take the change)
All in all a good bike, especially if you can find it cheap as I did ...

Advantages: Widely available. Excellent value for money. Kinder to the environment. Disadvantages: Looks expensive, not all garages stock Ultimate diesel.
very suspicious of BP's "Ultimate" advertising campaign, especially its' claims of 10% improved consumption and a 10% reduction in emissions. However I had been running my petrol Omega on 98 Octane Aral "Super" petrol in Germany and Poland and had found marked benifits in terms of performance and economy - certainly well in the realms of a 10% reduction in fuel consumption - that in de-restricted Germany too!
I then read that BP had taken over Aral (an East German fuel company originally) and had very quickly started marketing a new fuel - "Ultimate".
Having used Shell 98 Octaine which provided a marked improvement in performance but INCREASED fuel consumption I swapped to BP Ultimate and never looked back. At over 100,000 miles when you would expect an engine to start to use more fuel due to sheer wear, mine started to use less ...
Advantages: fast, light, high spec for cheap price Disadvantages: None
be increased quite significantly to get anything that would last.
I spent hours researching, joining forums (I highly recommend Bike Radar) etc in order to find the ideal bike in my budget.
Whilst taking my trusty steed of a mountain bike to Pauls Cycles in Dereham I thought that I'd better have a quick look at the small selection of racers in the shop. It was there I saw it?? The Trek 1200 in black and red.
I knew the Trek name and knew that they were generally a good, quality brand. That was it though.
The price was £799 which was way over my budget, but because it was a 2006 model I could have something knocked off it. The bike was described as 'shop soiled' since it had fallen over and had a tiny scratch on the frame. If the bloke hadn't told me this I would never have noticed it despite looking over the bike thoroughly ...
