Since moving from the countryside to London six years ago I have searched for a decent riding stables and finally i seem to have found a good one.
Trent Park is in Southgate which is on the Picadilly Line. You can have lessons or hacks any day of the week except monday when it is closed. They have evening classes and have 2 large indoor schools and an outdoor one which is floodlit. They have over a 100 horses and ponies including working liveries. The classes are expensive and the prices vary according to your ability and the number of people in your class and if you want a flat or jumping lesson. I pay £30 an hour for a jump lesson and £27 for a flat and there are normally 3 or 4 people in my class.
There is a wide range of horse varying from the easy to the challenging. You can normally choose which horse you ride and find something that suits you. However on the odd occassion you are put on something that you really dont want to ride, normally if you make a fuss they will swap you. The same goes for teachers you can request certain ones too!
Whilst the teaching and horses are excellent the only downside is some of the yard staff who can be rude and unhelpful. Three weeks in a row my friend's horse had not been tacked up which meant she was late joining the class and for £30 an hour you expect to have the whole hour worth of riding!
I have tried other stables in London but few offer the evening classes or the wide range of horse and they are all just as expensive. However it is as far as I am concerned worth it as it is relaxing and quite therapeutic after a day at work and a change from pretencious bars.
