This said for a 27-speed bike it is amazing how high and low the gears actually are; you would not off road in the highest gear as you reach what seems like supersonic speeds. The wheels DDm1 disc specific rims with Tioga Factory Extreme tyres give you a classy look with strength and grip. Granted you can purchase more bubbly tyres for offloading but this is a happy medium for road and off road, this bike if you so desired cry's out for tuning. It would be easy being made at the same factory as Kona Bikes you can see the class of this bikes beginnings, You can do pretty much whatever with this bike given the price and the spec. ...I brought this as my last bike, a saracen, died on me, it was really in a terrible mess! I brought this for £400 in Halfords, which is a pretty good deal for what you get. The technician was very helpful in there, otherwise I probably would have brought a bike from a Local Bike Store. So, what do you get for your £400 here? Well, a light and strong bike, with hyrdaulics, 24 gears, thick tyres, nice wheels with strong spokes. Advantages: Cheap, extremely durable, abuse tolerant
Disadvantages: Poor crank choice, may not be suitble for extreme use

...53 square taper got changed after 14 months, because it had become a bit gritty. I did however regularly ride it through rivers and mud, and then pressure washed it afterwards. It could have easily gone on for several more months, but square taper BB's are so cheap I changed it. The downsides The threaded spacer ring is made from plastic, and has a tendency to split when you are tightening it up. Always save the old one, when you are replacing your BB. The other major downside is poor choice of cranks. All the money and development is in lightweight cranks with BB's made from cheese, so your choice is limited. If you want sexy, then your only real choice is Middleburn, but these are expensive at around £130 just for a pair of cranks without rings. How does the UN54 compare? The only BB I have to compare it to are Truvativ... Read review
