Advantages: Cheap, extremely durable, abuse tolerant Disadvantages: Poor crank choice, may not be suitble for extreme use
...53 square taper got changed after 14 months, because it had become a bit gritty. I did however regularly ride it through rivers and mud, and then pressure washed it afterwards. It could have easily gone on for several more months, but square taper BB's are so cheap I changed it.
The downsides
The threaded spacer ring is made from plastic, and has a tendency to split when you are tightening it up. Always save the old one, when you are replacing your BB.
The other major downside is poor choice of cranks. All the money and development is in lightweight cranks with BB's made from cheese, so your choice is limited. If you want sexy, then your only real choice is Middleburn, but these are expensive at around £130 just for a pair of cranks without rings.
How does the UN54 compare?
The only BB I have to compare it to are Truvativ...

Advantages: Very light and durable, easy gear changing and very fast Disadvantages: toe caps can be difficult for beginners
...Although not top of the range its a very good bike. The weight can be felt on reasonably steep inclines but not so much as to hinder even a professional cyclist.
For club cycling this stands out. It looks good and performs great. I haven't ha\zd a single problem from mine and performs much better than my Apollo TDF.02
The tyres where down fairly fast though this is true for all road bike and it cannot take potholes or crack in the road (lest you wish to end up on your face in the road) again pavements and edges are not good to go onto or over because this will also leave you with a nasty mess and bits of bike and bent wheels!

...'s your uncle, although a vertical dropout would be better and much easier for removing the wheel.
The wheels supplied are, well, rubbish, I seriously buckled them on a mini jump, although it is not too expensive to true them it is still time wasting AND money wasting. High wall rims and Presta valves do not mix! My pump requires that you push all of the valve into it, i can only fit around 1/4 of it in, so i need to use my friends pump.
The hubs are great hubs (shimano deore) and i have no problems with them.
The pedals are great, really grippy, and randomly red! They have seized up though, so without anti-seizure formula i cant take them off.
The crank arms, FANTASTIC, Truvativ Husselfelt, again standard issue on most jump bikes, and a lot of others, they're rock solid and reliable!
Chain device, again Truvativ Husselfelt, The box...
