Vango Venture 500

Advantages: Good Size, Brilliant Value, High Quality, Sturdy, Easy to Erect
Disadvantages: None that I can think of!

I purchased my Vango Venture 500 towards the end of 2006. For the bargain price of £85.00 and I haven't looked back since! Numourus camping trips have bee happily spent in this tent and it will see many more! The frame consists of 2 large poles crossing over to make the main dome, and a 3rd smaller pole creating a loop for the porch area. Once erect, with all pegs and guide ropes in place the tent is extremely strong and stable. We have camped in strong winds and strong rain and it has stood strong throughout. As long as there are two of you, erecting the tent is a swift and easy process. Funnily enough you tend to erect it faster when its raining! And packing it back into the bag is an art the first time but you tend to remember how to do it from then onwards and it's easy enough. When packaged, the tent is relatively heavy ...

There's Summit About It!

Advantages: Compact, Rugged, 50 routes, Electronic Compass
Disadvantages: Battery life

I won't delve deeply into the details of how GPS works. That would take ages and you might already know. But in case you don't - suffice to say that there's a bunch of satellites orbiting the earth. Each one sends out a time signal along with it's unique identifier. GPS devices know about each of the satellites and where they are in relation to each other so, by working out the time difference between each of the signals sent by each satellite, the GPS receiver can work out where on earth it is (literally!). With that out of the way I will try and explain why, after two years of owning a "bog-standard" GPS receiver, I decided to upgrade my trusty old (bright yellow) Garmin eTrex to a shiny new (silver) eTrex Summit. Garmin are well known for their GPS offerings. In recent years they've turned it into a massive business. The e ...

Hotel International

Advantages: Location, breakfasts
Disadvantages: Poor rooms

I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time ...
