As a young boy my father gave me his old pen knife for me to use, that may sound pretty irresponsible today in the 'knife culture' we live in, but one of the first things he taught me was how to use it responsibly & never to use it in anger. I certainly used it, I fixed the steering in my wooden box cart with it, well it was steered by thick string, nothing too technical there!! I fixed my bicycle with it, used it when I went fishing, got myself out of many fixes when my shoelaces were completely knotted & guess who had the sharpest pencils in the classroom?
When I was older I purchased a Swiss Army knife & for about 20 years it was used on a regular basis until one day I forgot to remove it from my hand baggage at the airport & it was confiscated. I bought a near identical replacement & take it with me everywhere, these knives are really indispensable.

In 1897 Charles Eisener developed a rather elegant officer's knife which was officially registered & became popular throughout the world because of its high quality & versatility.
Today the company offers a huge range of pocket knives including a sportsman knife, waiter's knife, manager's knife, executive's knife, camper's knife, climber's knife, huntsman's knife & the one I have, simply called the ranger's knife. Most of them are either coloured red or black with the Swiss flag on the body of the knife. They come in all sizes & all have good quality stainless steel blades & are guaranteed for life against any defects. At the base of the knife it is stamped 'Victorinox Switzerland Stainless', beware of imitations, they may look the same but they break easily. A knife or any tool that is badly made & easily broken can cause personal injury.
My knife is in red & approx 9cm long, 3cm wide & 2cm in depth; it weighs approximately 110g & is a little awkward sitting in your trouser pocket. The bulge it would create would raise a few eye brows from the girls………….& maybe even from the boys!!
On one side of the knife is a small blade approx 4cm long with a pointed end, it is very sharp but handy for small jobs thanks to its compact size. Next in line is a larger blade, 7cm long pointed & very sharp, they will easily cut through plastics, rubber, carpet material & many other items without any problem. Next to that is an 8cm long wood saw with very sharp jagged teeth, this will slice through soft wood or branches from trees with relative ease, I have never used it on harder woods. Next to that on the same side of the knife is a 7cm long pair of scissors, these sharp scissors will cut through paper, cardboard, finger nails, plastics & rubber without much problems. They are hard to get used to as they have no holes in them for your fingers. They only have the extensions from the blade as handles with a spring loaded pivot in-between. Once you hang of them, they work really well. The little spring loaded pivot is available separately if you should lose it.
Next to that are two very handy tools, one is a plain screw driver end with a bottle opener (essential for the beer bottles!!) & wire stripper. This blade locks in the 90 & 180 degrees positions. The screwdriver just fits some electrical plug screws. The other blade features what looks like another plain screwdriver blade but is actually designed for cross headed screws (Phillips) & smaller plain headed screws. It also features a tin opener but doesn't lock in the 90 degrees position.
The other side of the knife features a small pointed reamer, universal hook which folds back on itself by 45 degrees & a must have tool, a corkscrew for those all important bottles of wine. Within the cork screw is a clever little screwdriver ideal for tightening the screws found in spectacles & sunglasses, it winds into the corkscrew & locks into position when not being used.
Within the handle of the knife is a small air of tweezers, ideal for plucking the old eyebrows, a tooth pick & a small 7cm long pen which works rather well, in fact when I use it my spelling improves!! At the end of the knife is a hole for attaching a key chain or ring. If you lose the pen, tweezers or tooth pick, they can all be purchased separately for a modest price. For those who need more, some of the knives have a pair of pliers, compass, metal saw, magnifying glass, sewing eye, torch, nail file & even a USB memory stick.
The knives are easily cleaned, I usually wash it in soapy water, dry it off & finish off with a soft cloth & it looks like new again.
Any gripes? My only issue I have with the knife is that although each blade locks into place there is no separate lock to unlock it before closing. You can sometimes have a blade closing on you when you least expect it. The knives vary in cost depending on size & features but I paid nearly £30 for this particular one which provided I don't lose it or leave in hand baggage again, should last me a lifetime. They are sold mainly in sports/mountaineering shops but often can be found elsewhere. The Swiss Army knife is really compact & versatile & come highly recommended.
Advantages: Sharp serrated blade, attractive design. Disadvantages: None that spring to mind.

Features of the Victorinox Swiss Army Century Swiss Army Knife =====================================================
Serrated/Straight blade - this is pulled out from the cover by gripping a little groove on the back of the blade. It is made of stainless steel, so it won't rust, and it "locks" when it is in line with the handle. The blade is 4" long and has about 60% serrated edge and 40% straight ... ...Relatively robust design - the Victorinox Swiss Army Century Swiss Army Knife stands up to most normal use, but I wouldn't take it with me when I go out walking in the Scottish mountains - it just isn't tough enough to be dropped or accidentally stood on. Attractive Design - My knife is camouflaged with different shades of army green, but I'm sure you can get the right colour to match your mobile phone case... =====================================================

...makes the 'real' item.
Victorinox is a Swiss company, formed in 1884, and ever since, has produced high quality pocket knives which are both practical and versatile.
Their reputation is based almost entirely on the reliability of the product - one 'blade' often offers a number of functions (screwdriver, can opener and wire stripper for example), but above all, they don't break, unless subject to the most inconsiderate abuse.
Part of the secret ... ...left my side since.
Victorinox have now extended their range to include 'credit card' sized multi-tools - this was to meet a craze in Japan, which thankfully missed Western Europe - 'Sport Tools' for Golfers, anglers and even the Parachutist (although what you might use a penknife for, hurtling earthwards at 90mph is anybody's guess)
In 1992 victorinox branched out into 'lifestyle' products, and offered a range of watches (doubtless capitalising ...

Whilst at my local Victorinox stockist I came across some of the latest incarnations, the Cyber Knife, Cyber Card, The Flame which has a lighter which has a blue flame which is windproof (better than rubbing two boy scouts together to start a fire) and the USB Knife which as well as the usual blades has a 64Meg USB memory blade. Well the say that it’s a jungle out there.

The Victorinox Swiss Army Knife is an essential tool for anyone going on any sort of a camping trip or hike. These knives can be found anywhere in the world with a huge assormtment of functionalities. They can be as small as your pinky or as long as your middle finger and as fat as a hot dog bun. Advantages: Good quality Disadvantages: Can rust if exposed to salty water
It's so hard to do a review for this Victorinox Camper Swissarmyknife because there are so many very good things to say about it and i just don't know from where to start with this review.
Let's start with the design of this Victorinox Camper Swissarmyknife. It's a very simple but very practical design in the traditional colors al Victorinox, red and white. The materials are very good, resist to shocks very well, the colors of the handle will stay there for ever but in time some scratches will appear, that depends of how you use it. I my opinion this is not an heavy duty knife, so don't treat him like one.
The steel used for the blades in, as you expected, very good. Is has the right flexibility and rigidiness so it can be used in many activities. You can sharpen the blades of t his Victorinox Camper Swissarmyknife very easy, if ...
Advantages: Sharp blades, expected host of features, Victorinox quality Disadvantages: Reliability of electronics not proven
This review is for a Victorinox Altimeter SwissArmyKnife. It was bought as a present so although I do not know exactly what it was bought for I have had a quick look around on the internet and standard prices seem to be around £50. This cost surprised me at first but I suppose you do get what you pay for.
Before I tell you about my experiences with this knife I will quickly outline it's features, which as expected for a VictorinoxKnife is sufficiently long!
These features are taken directly from the manufacturers descriptions and I do find one or two of the features are a bit dubious, but on the whole they all function well:
1. large blade
2. small blade
3. corkscrew
4. can opener with - small screwdriver 3 mm (also for Phillips screws)
5. cap lifter with - screwdriver 6 mm - wire stripper
9. reamer, punch
10. key ...
Advantages: So many functions Disadvantages: The Price
