Weslo M5 Treadmill

In my Opinion a Good Quality and Great Value basic running machine

I was looking for a cheap piece of home fitness equipment, I decided on a treadmill but needed something to fit my budget and my expectations in terms of quality and durability. My research led me to the Weslo M5 - made by Icon in the States who have a good reputation in the fitness industry for quality which was a an important factor for me in terms of getting value for money.

In m opinion, the Weslo M5 is by no means a cheaply built treadmill, it's a solid, neat, reliable machine and folds away without being too big and bulky, and at around 65kg it's not as heavy as some.

Its a good looking compact, starter running machine and would probably suit most people up to around 18 stone. The machine itself has all the basic features, nothing very fancy, it’s easy to use, the yellow console is easy to read, the frame feels solid and good quality for the price. I’m not one for reading lengthy instructions and so the four built in touch button running programmes suits me fine.

Basically I think it's very a straight forward walking/running machine, it has a 4 position manual incline which is easy to use and you just adjust it at the back, changeable speeds at the touch of a button, the deck is sturdy and gets upto 10 mile an hour which for the price is excellent value. I have used mine to do a fast pace 20 min walk at position 2 on the manual incline - I do this about four times a week - having the machine indoors just makes it easy harder for me to come up with excuses not to exercise! I am building up a steady 10-15 minute jog which I interchange with a 20 min fast walk. I have joined a local slimming club and have lost on average a pound a week more than most and I put this down to the Weslo M5!

Do shop around for a good deal – the rrp on this machine seems to be £399 but I found the best deal online on a refurbished model for £169.99 with free delivery and 6mths parts and labour warranty – which is a pretty fantastic deal if you ask me. I did go checkout the model at the showroom before I bought it – I also checked out what refurbished means so dont be put off by the term – a refurbished machine is a basically a customer or manufacturer return – for example someone changed their mind, the box was damaged, it didn't work on delivery, it might also be an ex-demo. Mine does have the odd scatch but other than that appears to be a new machine - the added bonus of it being refurbished is that it arrived already built up and so saved me time and stress. I’ve had no problems to report to date, I did take out an extended 6 mth warranty for added peace of mind but to be honest I don’t think I would again, these machines seem built to last!
