A great alternative to the massively over-priced top end of the market balls. Available at a reasonable price these balls offer players a quality ball that is beautifully designed (although the different flat bottomed, shallow dimple pattern takes a while to get used to! - see picture) and a pleasure to play with. It has all of the characteristics associated with three piece balls and feels great off the putter and around the greens in general while offering consistant distance control in the long game and a very good distance too having ranked highly in the golfalot.com testing, this while also being the "highest flying" ball in a similar Todays Golfer test. This is good considering you would normally expect a ball that flies high in the air to give up valuable yards, but apparently not in this case!

The dimple construction of this ball is different to most other balls available in the sense that it has 312 shallow, flat-bottomed dimples which are supposed to give the ball a high, controllable trajectory. The dimple design is known as having "PhD advanced design". Further technology is found in the balls' nano tech core which is chemically engineered to produce a lively but soft centre to the balls' construction. The ball also features a resilient HPF Mantle layer (developed by DuPont Chemicals) which is designed to give players the greatest possible acceleration off the club face and generate higher spin rates (to give more control to distance shots and more feel in the short game).

This ball is part of a series of current Wilson Staff golf balls on the market at the moment. There is a two-piece construction (DX2), the PX3 is their three-piece ball and the top ball in their range is currently the TX4 which is a four-piece golf ball designed for the ulitmate in feel and control with much less of a consideration for distance than the other two (particularly the DX2 which is a distance ball and while good in this respect is very limited around the green). In recent months Wilson Staff have also released the "DX2 Soft" which is aimed at improving on the original DX2 by giving players more control around the greens - a soft distance ball as it were! I have tried these but only briefly and they seem very similar to the PX3 to me and are probably a very similar price too.

I am a 15 handicap and have used this ball throughout my improvement from a 24 handicap and although no equiptment can claim to be the reason for this I believe that the ball (and particularly the consistancy of sticking with this ball) has played a part in the improvement of my game.

Please note that very low handicap players may find that this ball does not spin enough around the greens and perhaps instead should be looking at either an expensive ball or maybe the TX4 if Wilson Staff balls appeal.

I highly recommend this ball to players of the same ability as me as it is a great mid-priced, three piece ball that can save you both money and shots!

Thanks for reading, Rob.
