Ever since I have been involved with horses, I have noticed that most people have used Woof brushing boots, which are also known as Club boots. Although they don't look like anything special they are actually very good. When I brought my own horse, I automatically brought these boots because they had been recommended to me so many times.
These boots are designed for general riding, so they are perfect for hacking, schooling, jumping, lunging etc. However they are not tough enough to provide protection on the cross-county course.
They come is three different sizes which are size 1, 2 and 3. As a rule go for one size for the front legs and the next size up for the back legs. The boots are quite stiff to put on when they are new, but this gets better when they have been worn for a few times.
My horse brushes quite badly with her back legs so I have to use boots each time she is ridden. I think that these boots lasted really well. I had to replace the back boots after about 2 and a half years as the PVC protection on one of them had been worn away. The front boots are still in perfect condition except the colour has faded quite a bit.
I have tried other boots but I think that these ones are much easier to use and more durable. Once the boots have been worn a few times, they mould to the horses leg and fit much better. The boots are easy to clean but may take a while to dry as they are made of neoprene. They are also quite cheap. If you buy online or from a catalogue like CAM Equestrian or Robinsons country Leisure, they are about £15-£18 per pair which is a really good price. Also there is a huge selection of colours so most of the time you can get what you want.
I would recommend these boots for day to day riding and training. You don't have to pay hundreds of pounds for a good set of boots as these ones are really good.

I did get a bit confused here for a while because I thought these were riding boots for the rider ... confused me a little when you mentioned about getting a different size for the back legs!! What exactly are boots for the horse? :) Jo
