Worms. Small, or large, pink and brown creatures that live in mud and tend to get eaten by a) birds or b)fish. we are interested in the latter. Becuase worms have a crap life, and no real reason to keep living it. Therefore, they are easy to catch, easy to hook, and easy to blame your crap day's fishing on. Not that you will have a crap day's fishing with them - if you do it right. Worms are good for most fish, but the best fish to go for with them are perch (on a river, of course). They bite well, fight hard, and arent so big it'll take hours to get them in. Here's a step by step method for landing a monster. 1) Dig up your worms. The bigger the better 2) set your rod up, set depth a little above the bottom, size 10 hook, weights high up the line. 3) hook the worm twice, one 1/3 of the way through, and the other 2/3. 4) lib the whole thing near some reeds and hang on!!
Worms always have been and always will be the king of baits. No other bait is so versatile - you can use it whole, chop it up, mix with bread for an excellent groundbait, use a few at once. There are also many types of worm - earthworm, red worm, joker - they're all good. The other idea is to catch a perch on worm, then use it as a deadbait for pike. It all works, because of the beauty of the worm.
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
(+) Cheap to do when done correctly, good results. (-) FEAR FACTOR - You will look silly if you do it without results. Difficult to carry a large amount.
Advantages: Cheap (From fishmongers) Useful ingredient in bait 'cocktails' Disadvantages: Expensive (From Fishmongers and supermarkets) no real use as a stand-alone bait.

Advantages: cheaper and more effective than commercial groundbaits. Disadvantages: The only disadvantage I find, is that you have to make it your self.
