After recently finding the whole gym and sports section I’ve found a new love of writing reviews on some of the hardest products, however, this goes out to those of you who are looking at starting your working out part of life (mine started not long ago, and unfortunately didn’t work out quite so well, but still, I’m staying motivated) and are starting to buy all the weights and equipment which you think you will need
Specs Weight (including spin locks) 5.6kg (odd weight, tell me about it) Length is just over 3ft with about 8 inches each side to stack the weights onto. Metal spinlocks and the grips on the bar is just roughened metal. Bar
is solid metal with chrome plating
The uses and exercises
The York close grip tri/curl combi bar is one aimed towards working the triceps and biceps in the arm (for those that aren’t sure, biceps are in front and used for closing the distance between the wrist and shoulder, and triceps are on the back and are used to open the distance between the wrist and shoulder). The varying grips allow one to lift weights with different hand positions enabling the targeting of different muscles whilst using the same motion.
Some of the exercises include Bicep curl Variations – Under hand grip, over rotated wrist grip, over hand grip, hammer grip, open grip, closed grip
Tricep extension Variations – Hammer grip, under hand grip, over hand grip, closed grip, open grip.
These are the normal exercises used with this bar (or this is generally what I do) The other muscles that can be worked are the deltoids, and upper muscles of the back like the trapezius. If you use this bar for other exercises like upright row, behind neck press you can target a huge range of muscles as long as you watch yourself and don’t injure anything by doing the wrong one. You can always check it over with a personal trainer if need be.
I use the bar for other small things too (some of which are included in the ‘100 uses for a metal rod’ review, but ill mention them again)
Press ups – with the different grip, you can target different parts in the triceps Sit ups – easier to hold as it sits close to the chest so you can add some weight for those abs to work with
Some other points about the bar It really does help your wrists. For those of you who have been lifting for a while using maybe a long straight bar for the curls or tricep extensions may have noticed a pain developing in the wrists, or I have and it’s not fun stuff, it hurts!! So this bar is good to help put the wrists in the right position for a good workout with minimal long term injury.
It’s very worth the money spent as it can be used to target so many different muscles without needed to change bar. It heavy itself, weighing nearly 6kg and so therefore you don’t need to add too much weight (therefore buying and spending more money on weights).
I have never over piled the bar with weights, so I honestly don’t know the maximum of this bar, but I doubt you will over do it. Being solid metal the bar is very strong and will flex only under extreme stress. Rusting has not occurred yet!! Being quite short in length from end to end excluding the winding in the middle, it can be used in small restricted areas with ease and therefore in your room, whether it’s small, untidy, or cramped.
I don’t have anything to say to criticise this bar. Everything about it is a plus. You could argue that maybe it is a bit troublesome to store at home, but if you stand it up it works fine, just maybe between 2 things as opposed to in a corner where it will take up most of the room due to the unique shape.
So in conclusion, I recommend this bar any day to anyone looking to workout at home with free weights and is aiming to work the arms as their number 1 aim (like most people when they start out.. i.e. me and I’m talking from experience here). A great bar, well worth its price tag. Hope this has helped you in making your decision, if not; just take a look at some of my others reviews on the other bars and their ups and downs.
P.s. 100 grips, its close, but if you include the many exercises you could get pretty close to 100, if you find any new ones which i havent pointed out, please to share!!
