The machine works on the principal of using your own body weight against you so creating resistance.
This is achieved in varying stages , The bench is inclined and the angle can be raised so increasing the percentage of your body weight you are using against your self, i.e. at the lowest incline you are using 25% there is another 5 stages of incline building up to 50% of your own ... more
YORK Body Gym 2003
Due to the nature of my work I used to have a bit of spare time during the day, so I filled it in by going to the local gym. This had 2 purposes , 1, it got me from under my wifes feet, and 2, it helped keep me fit . But due to unforeseen family problems I can not get to the gym as much any more , so I had to find an alternative method of keeping fit at home.
I have looked at all the different electronic gadgets ( personally none of these really work), Then I turned my attention to free weights and Multi gyms, which believe me they are good and obviously work, But I do not live in a mansion , plus having a 6 year old son and a disabled 10 year old son who are both very nosey means leaving heavy weights and machines laying around pretty dangerous .
Then one day my eldest daughter was watching QVC ( as she does all the time) when I saw an exercise machine which looked perfect for my needs, but it was a shade short of £200.00 ( a little on the expensive side for me), I decided to look for an alternative.
On opening my wife's Argos catalogue I found the answer to my problems the YORK BODY GYM 2003. £99.00 The machine works on the principal of using your own body weight against you so creating resistance. This is achieved in varying stages , The bench is inclined and the angle can be raised so increasing the percentage of your body weight you are using against your self, i.e. at the lowest incline you are using 25% there is another 5 stages of incline building up to 50% of your own body weight.
The body gym is basically a comfortable padded bench 330mm wide x 1100mm long fixed by rollers to a metal frame , At the bottom end is a foot rest which doubles up as a handle for inclined shoulder presses. The complete gym unfolded measures 920mm heighx2300mm longx500mm wide, The main upright strut at the back is where the incline adjustment is done by simply unscrewing the large holding bolt , sliding the bench frame up to the required setting and screwing the bolt back in. At the top of the main strut is two handles ( for inclined pull-ups) at which the pulleys are hooked onto. To actually use the gym is simplicity it self , you basically lie or sit on the bench (depending on which exercise you are doing) grab the handles and pull , the bench slides up and down the frame , this method of exercise is really good as it causes no impact at all to the joints. With the gym comes an easy to read wall chart showing how to stretch and warm up ( essential before any exercise routine) , then it has step by step pictures and text for every one of the 27 exercises which isolate and work every major and minor muscle group in the body. There is also in-depth instructions on exercise routines for muscle toning or bodybuilding depending on what you wish to use it for. The instructions state that it can be used by children ( under adult supervision) and the more mature adult ( after obtaining medical advice) this I would agree with due to the ease of using this machine and that there is no impact on the joints.
When not in use the gym can be folded up by simply taking out the main bolt at the back and pulling out the holding pin from under the bench, the gym will then fold up in an upright position , the stabilising feet have rollers at each end so you can then push it or pull it to where ever you want to store it, ( the gym weighs 27Kg so I would recommend pushing/pulling ) When folded the gym measures 1350mm longx500mm widex270mm high , the advertising says it could be stored under a bed, personally it would need to be a high bed, But it can be tucked into a corner or in a cupboard ( as mine is ) and when it is needed again it can be up and running in 2mins.
the only problem I can see with this machine is its max user weight 100Kg ( 16st ), so any one of this weight or heavier who wants to use one of these to loose weight will have to diet first. So in summary if you need to exercise but do not or can not go to a gym then this has to be the best priced and most effective home gym on the market today. Thanks to anyone who reads this op and happy exercising.
