...I bought myself an 8800GT 512MB some time ago now, and regularly suffered from the graphics drivers failing whilst in game, and I couldn't find a solution. I tried all sorts to no avail, but then as summer (or what we pass off as a summer here in good old England) approached the problems got even worse, and I discovered why. My 8800GT was over heating, and badly. For example, running Call of Duty 4 on low settings, the gpu would reach temperatures of 74C, and on higher settings it would reach 90C before the images would start to artifact (which basically means the graphics break, badly). I even raised the fan speed of the card to its maximum woth very little effect. Advantages: Handles everything you give it. Good overclocker.
Disadvantages: Very large card and heat sink.

...I bought this graphics card last week in order to upgrade my machine to play the newest games using DirectX 10. The previous card I had was a GeForce 8500GT. Immediately the difference between the cards is clear on paper. Not to mention the price difference. The 8500GT played most newer games on medium graphics settings with a below average frame rate. The ASUS 8800GT was a completly different story. All the settings were maxed out with an average frame rate and no stuttering. This of course was on DirectX 9 as I don't run Vista. This card is though, definately worth buying as it is future-proof with SLi Capability. I bought it with this in mind. For precaution though, I also bought a new PSU to make sure all the power demands were met. The card is fairly large though, it fits in my mATX tower, but is as long as my motherboard... Read review

Advantages: Plays all current games at max quality (except crysis)
Disadvantages: New 4870 is coming out in june, if you can wait for that

...A very, very good graphics card. I have made numerous computers in the past and it was never really that hard choosing which graphics card to go for, there was one that would fit my budget and give good performace. However with the recent introduction of the (cards decending in price and performance, highest to lowest) nVidia 8800gts, nVidia 8800gt, ATI 3870 and ATI 3850, there are so many cards that are targeted at the midrange. And now nVidia has also introduced the 9600gt still aimed at the midrange, so the question is which has the best price versus performance? And the answer - they are all pretty much the same, the more you pay the better card you get so is it worth the extra cash for the more expensive card? ...The HD 3870 has corrected nearly every fault the 2900xt came with. It runs cooler and quieter, performs better than the 2900xt, and is increasing in performance with every driver release (monthly). Generally the performance is just under that of the 8800gt, its direct competitor, but the price of this card is less than the nvidia card. The 3870 is also more overclockable and performs better with some games againts the 8800gt. It also scales better when paired with a second 3870 better than two 8800gt in sli. Its generally a better investment because no other card apart from its older brother 3870 x2 (two in one card) had better video and HD playback and the card also features dx10.1 which no nvidia card has. Advantages: Great price:performance ratio, especially now they're less than £150
Disadvantages: SIngle slot cooler means not much overclocking without an aftermarket cooler

...never get enough peromance out of them to justify spending the extra money. If you're looking for a dual card setup, look into Ati's brand of cards because their system (crossfire) gets you much more of a performance game when running two cards. Basically if you're looking for a high-performance single graphics card solution at less than £150 then you can't do any better than this. It's just a bit faster than the new 9600GT, which could be your other option if you want to spend a bit less. Fantastic card in my opinion... Read review
