...It's that time of year again. Being an A level student sucks, for the last 3 years I've had exams, GCSEs, AS, A2... So here's a few tips on how to get through them. -------------------- Learning -------------------- If you didn't learn it, you can't revise it. It's a completely different process that schools have spent years mastering. So for one, turn up to the lessons. Learning takes a long time to do, we actually learn in our sleep. We get fed the information during the day and then it gets downloaded to our long term memory at night. In order for this to work properly, you need 7 hours worth of sleep every night. You can only store so much in your brain before it has to be downloaded. Also note that we learn more (and take in more) during the morning, when we've just woken up. The key points are underlined and written in a different colour, making sure you take note of them. The Content As I said before, this revision guide covers modules 1,3 and 5. ...As a 17 year old student i thought i'd give my opinion of these guides. Personally i own quite a few, and i have found them useful. They are humourous (kind of) and they have good diagrams, unfortunatly they aren't idiot proof, and you need to know your stuff before you can use them, which can cause a problem as most of the time, i don't have a clue about it, and so these guides arn't the best, i suppose they are good for revision but that's about it. Some revision guides will give you a more full explanation of things. Also unfortunatly, these revision guides seem to support the dreadful (in my opinion) idea that instead of learning how things work, you can just remember it all, and then you'll be ok, which is true, but is not good in terms of last minuite revision, or for you're personal intelligance anyway, because you... ...Having recently taken my GCSE's, I know what revision can be like. Constant, boring and always hanging over your head as something you SHOULD be doing, but probably arn't. Exams aways seem to come at once, and that maths exam you put 2 weeks aside for, is suddenly 2 days away, and there's a history exam tomorrow too. It seems that, with so much to get through, you are never going to get it all done, so, why not just....give up? Well, that is an option. But once you sit in one exam and look at the paper infront of you, not knowing a single answer with the two hour stretch ahead of you, where there is nothing to do but stare at formulas, dates or words without a clue what they mean, you may decide a bit of revision could have been good. ...different topics and then you do practice papers and submit the answers! Just make sure you buy guides that suit you, there's no right or wrong way to study. You can even buy books called AS level in a week! And don't forget your actual textbooks. Use these to understand topics, and then do questions. If they're the same board as the exam you will take, all the better! And the other best revision guide to use is books. As many books as possible to you can do background reading and help you understand as much as possible. I found this especially important with History! They can be used by answering the questions using the book, without the book or quiz others on the questions. I recommend any student, parent or teacher to buy these revision guides in any key stage, level or subject. ...I am doing my GCSE's very soon, and so have been revising for the past few weeks. The revision books my school sells are CGP, so it made sense to buy them! In this review i will be reviewing GCSE level Science, Maths and History CGP revision books. The Science books are at higher level, the Maths at intermediate and the History is Modern World History. The History and Maths books are for no specified exam board, and the Science book is for AQA modular science. SCIENCE There are 2 books needed when revising modular science. One is the 'early modules' revision guide, which is needed throughout year 10, as separate modular tests are taken at different stages.
