Boys Toys
Review of Battleship by
wampyrii
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...When I was a child I never had the electronic version of Battleships. The version I had looked somewhat old and tacky and indeed thats exactly what this game is no matter how they try to make it look good. However, the idea behind the game is such a simple one that it works.
Two players sit opposite each other facing two grids. They place their ships on the lower grid in a formation which they think is most likely to confuse the enemy(Well thats what I did anyway) and then play begins. Each player in turn calls out a grid reference(A1..B5 etc) to state where exactly they are aiming their missiles. If a part of a boat is found in that area then the player hit must state that they have scored a hit on one of his ships and this is marked by a yellow peg. If it misses then this is marked by a white peg. The opposition player marks these off...

~~~WHAT THE SCORES SAY ABOUT YOU~~~
35 and above – Grr! You are a prime example of manhood – self serving, uncomplicated and you have dry wee on your leg. The only thing that lets you down is doing a quiz like this! Why aren’t you in the pub?
20 to 34 – You must be doing something wrong. Either you’re a little too lenient at times of crisis (like trying to find the blue keycard to get into the room with the hand grenades so you can take out the Tyrant) or you’ve got a few things...
BrainStrain or Mindreader?
Review of Brain Teasers by
scarfaceman
Advantages: Makes you think!
Disadvantages: Makes you think!!!
...I am going to ask you a few questions, all I'd like to know is do you know the answer's???
Firstly i will ask you to think of a whole number between 1 and 9,
Multiply that number by 9.
With the number that you now have add the 2 digits in that number together, eg if you have 25, 2 + 5 = 7.
Take 5 from the number that you now have,
If a=1, b=2, c=3... Whatever letter corresponds to the number that you have, think of a country that begins with that letter.
With the 2nd letter of that country, think of an animal that begins with that letter.
Thanks.
2) A man is hanging dead in the centre of a room, his bare feet are burnt, the only door in the room is locked from the inside, apart from the man and the noose the room is completely empty. The air inside the room is cold! How did the man manage to hang himself???
3) A man lives...
Trams reliable but trains less so
Review of Getting around in Brussels by
Morgenhund
Advantages: fairly cheap options
Disadvantages: train connections can be unreliable
...The tram network in Brussels is by and large very efficient and reliable, and complements the Underground network well. Trams run more or less on time and from very early (0530ish) to pretty late (0030ish). As far as the cost of public transport goes, a day pass is just over £2 (BEF 130), and there are tickets that are valid for 5 or 10 journeys. Monthly passes are about £23 (BEF 1400), and work out as a good investment for anyone who is travelling regularly by public transport.
Probably the most useful tramroutes are the 23 and the 90 which are the largest circular routes, and are very reliable and can take you to a large percentage of the places you want to go to. The Métro is relatively simple with only three lines, (1A, 1B and 2) although the connectivity with the trams is excellent. There is also a section of the tram network...
Fruit In a Suit
Review of Tesco Loose Bananas by
stuleg
Advantages: Tastey and good for you
Disadvantages: None
...to 9 inch banana contains about 140 calories
It contains 60 grams of Potassium
2 grams of Protein
4 grams of Fibre
36 grams of Carbohydrates
Plenty of Vitamins including A,B,B6 and C
Add to that traces of Thiamine, Riboflavin, Niacin, Folic Acid, Calcium, Magnesium, Iron and Zinc and you have an amazing health food encased in a yellow suit.
The banana can help with a number of medical problems as well. The high Potassium and low salt content means it is ideal for sufferers of high blood pressure. PMS sufferers should eat a banana; the vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.
Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking, as the high levels of Vitamin C, A1, B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine...
Dulcie, Pru And Liza Too
Review of Mixed Doubles - Jill Mansell by
KarenUK
Advantages: great characters, compelling, interesting storyline
Disadvantages: it has to finish
...and Pru. They are all in their early thirties and are great friends. They are also incredibly normal – no supermodels in glamorous locations here, oh no. They eat junk food, go to health clubs just to be seen, argue with their blokes, have bad hair days and get migraines.
For their New Year’s resolutions, Liza vows to get married, after a succession of short flings with gorgeous men she soon gets bored of. Dulcie decides to finally divorce her dull, workaholic husband, Patrick. Pru just hopes to stay married to Phil, even though he’s an A1 b***ard. But, as we know, best made plans don’t always go according to plan…
The book is easy to get into, so you’ll soon be devouring great chunks in one sitting, unable to even go to the loo without taking it with you. Although there are over 400 pages, it all goes...
Flat-packed furniture - a success story
Review of Argos (Shop) by
Mr-E-Mann
Advantages: Ease of assembly, labelling of parts, fits in with my dining room, but maybe not yours.
Disadvantages: Need a car to get it home, mine has cost me another pregnancy (but yours doesn't have to!)
...everywhere.
Scratched wood? Nope! Every piece (and I mean EVERY piece) was enclosed in its own individual plastic bag. The metalwork was also in individual bags. We could've used the bags we received to store an entire herd of cows in the freezer, there were that many. BUT, it also meant that the woodwork wasn't scratched.
Bits missing? If there were, they were missing from the diagrams too - everything we needed (except for a screwdriver), even the spanner for the wheels, was in the box.
Now the suprising bit - the screws. OK, there were about a dozen types. Some big, some small, some long, some short. All had different references - A1, B1 etc. All different quantities. Most importantly, all in different LABELLED bags! Yes, dear reader, every bag of screws was marked with its length, and the reference number!
Having assembled lots...
Large Apartments, Terrible Complex...
Review of Vacanza Apartments, Benidorm by
anthuk81
Advantages: Spacious Rooms In Vacanza Block
Disadvantages: No Reception, No Loungers, No Pool Bar, No Toilets!!
...of us walked up while 2 stayed with our cases and got the keys.
The next problem was finding our room, as plam beach had nothing to do with Vacanza and simply held onto the keys for guests we were just giving an envelope. There is 4 blocks to the complex and we had to spend another 30 minutes working out which block we were in. We finally established it was the vacanza block which is the smaller of the 4 but finding the room was just as difficult as they were all numbers then a letter (i.e 1a, 1b, 1c, etc) but they were not on the same floor we were in 4d which was actually on the 6th floor yet 4f was on the 5th (yes work that one out) anyway a nice spanish man who lived there took us to our room after we raked in the dark for the rooms for ages!!
The room itself was great, spacious 2 bedroom 1 with en suite, nice balcony etc...
Revising made easy!
Review of bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/ by
bluejules
Advantages: Easy to use, colourful, makes revising fun!
Disadvantages: Not all subject topics are covered
...studying for my AS levels. This website also offers revision for these exams. I have only looked at this area briefly but do intend to use it. I will update my review with my opinion on this section of the site once I've used it properly!
Now why not check it out for yourself, they offer revision for all ages. (Including website links for pre-school children!)
PS I got 2A*s 8A's and 1B in my GCSE's and I used this website LOADS! (I don't know if there is a connection there [:-)] but I would highly recommend the GCSE pages of this website!)...
Just The Stuff For An Anorak Like Me
Review of Microsoft Excel 2000 2000 Complete package by
BNibbles
Advantages: Very comprehensive. Plenty to "grow into"
Disadvantages: Daunting to the first time user
...;s say that cell A1 has £3.50 typed in, and next to it, we want to show how much extra you will pay including VAT. We don’t reach for our calculators to work out 17.5 % of £3.50, and then type it in. We type in a formula instead. These always start with “=” to differentiate it from text or numbers. In this case, we would input in cell B1, “=A1* 17.5%”. (The asterisk being Excel’s nearest known symbol to “times”)
Any alterations to A1 would immediately reflect in B1. Now lets put in the total gross amount next to B1, (in C1). Our formula here could be “=Sum(A1:B1)” – I say COULD because you could also put “=A1+B | | |
