Roadkill
Review of Roadkill (Wide Screen) by  phurren2006

Advantages: It's a good way to spend a Friday evening
Disadvantages: The plot is very derivative

...THE FILM? ------------------------------------------ The plot is derivative but enjoyable - if you have ever seen the Steven Spielberg film DUEL then you should have no pressing need to see ROADKILL. The cast are nothing special but handle their parts adequately. The music is not too intrusive and adds to the tension in the appropriate places. Generally this is a good film to kill an hour and a half with a curry and a beer on a Friday night. ---------------- THE AWARD ---------------- ROADKILL was nominated as Best Action/Adventure/Thriller Film in the 2002 Saturn Awards (awarded by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films, USA). However it did not win, with the award instead being awarded to Christopher Nolan's excellent film MEMENTO. -------------------- THE DVD -------------------- ROAD KILL is available on DVD from Fox... One of the Best Books Ever! - Without a Doubt!
Review of The Hobbit - J.R.R. Tolkien by  jpegington

Advantages: Excellent Story, Great characters, Leads into The Lord of the Rings
Disadvantages: Too Short for me!

...Technical Details: Paperback 400 pages (March 19, 2001 edition) Categories: Science Fiction & Fantasy , Fiction About the Author: J.R.R. Tolkien is the Author of The Hobbit and also the famous Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Please see my previous review on Lord of the Rings for further details on the Author so as not to duplicate here. About the Book: First this is in theory a pre runner in the Lord of the Rings story, but is completely seperate. It is more of a childrens book but is very good. The Hobbit is a tale of high adventure, undertaken by a company of dwarfs in search of dragon guarded Gold. Another member of the team is Bilbo Baggins a Hobbit on search for adventure. Bilbo Baggins adventures include encounters with trolls, goblins, dwarves, elves and giant spiders, conversations with the dragon, Smaug the Magnificant... Read review

You just can't put it down 2!!!
Review of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - J.K. Rowling by  philltam

Advantages: Better than the first!
Disadvantages: You finish it too soon!

...Having finished the first book so rapidly and enjoying it so much, I decided to get started on the second book straight away! Right from the start of this book to the very end was action packed adventure, mystery and a little more of Harry Potter's past begins to be revealed! When half way through this book, you think you've figured out the plot, then think again 'cos you ain't see nothing yet! So if you thought the first one was good, then you're gonna think this one is brilliant! Don't take my or anyone else's word for it, read it for yourself and see! I'm sure you'll agree!... The school of the wizards
Review of Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets (PC Game) by  Kimea

Advantages: Read my op ;o)
Disadvantages: Read my op ;o)

...I will speak to you about the video games which my brother prefers: Harry Potter at the school of the wizards Discover the adventures of Harry Potter the apprentice-wizard in an enthralling videoludic adaptation where you will find the magic universe imagined by J.K. Rowling with his colourful characters, its magic but also its dangers. Mix of traditional adventure and of action, this version PC rather accurately takes again the screen of the first book in which our young hero makes his entry with Poudlard, the school of the wizards. During this first year of training, it will be necessary for him to control many fates, to learn how to fly on a brush and to face frightening creatures with the waving of a magic wand. Constantly assisted in its evolution by the characters of novel such as Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, its professors... Read review

A timeless classic
Review of The Hobbit - J.R.R. Tolkien by  LeighCook

Advantages: Wonderful book for all the family to enjoy.
Disadvantages: Has some depictions of war.

...and regain their riches and home. Unfortunately, life is never simple and they encounter many dangers along the way including fearsome Trolls, conniving Goblins and many other fascinating and dangerous creatures. Throughout the course of the book, Bilbo gains a magical ring from a sniveling creature called Gollum after a dual of riddles. Although this ring turns Bilbo invisible, and aids the quest, the importance of the ring does not become fully clear until The Lord of the Rings, the follow up to The Hobbit. As the quest moves to a climatic ending, we clearly see the value of teamwork, and although we see stubbornness, jealousy and other character flaws, we realize that everyone in the group has something to give. J R R Tolkien has created a land called Middle Earth for all the adventure and action to take place in. Rolling hills and valleys... Read review

Harry potter and the goblet of fire
Review of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - J.K. Rowling by  georginagreen

Advantages: Lots of plot details
Disadvantages: Quite long winded

...While (in my opinion) all the Harry Potter series makes for a worthwhile read, this is certainly the book with the best plot. It contains everything you could want in a good read - action, adventure, romance, competition, skill, intrigue, and even death! It's a fascinating journey into the magical world of Hogwarts, bringing us even deeper into the world of magic, laid beautifully alongside the life of an adolescent boy. It mixes potions with emotions, magic with romance, and adventure with, well, the usual sort of behaviour expected of a teenage boy reaching puberty. I found it hilarious to read of Harry struggling to compete in the interschool cup whilst uncovering the first stirrings of romance among his fellow classmates, and experiencing the usual school and family life. I also think this book brings us closer to the characters... Read review

The Hobbit
Review of The Hobbit - J.R.R. Tolkien by  adamdavid

Advantages: The best book of it's kind
Disadvantages: Are you kidding?

...J.R.R. Tolkien's book "The Hobbit" is, along with "The Lord of the Rings", my favourite book. It is a wonderful story set in a world of sword and sorcery, a world of adventure and heroes, of dragons and dwarves and elves and wizards. It follows the adventures of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins. Hobbits are small, furry humanoid creatures that live in tidy, well furnished holes in the ground. They live simple lives and it is very rare for them to travel anywhere. Bilbo is visited by the wizard Gandalf and a group of Dwarves who persuade Biblo to go on a journey with them. The adventure the Bilbo has takes him to places he never dreamed of and he meets creatures that he would never have believed existed. I don't want to give away too much because it is an adventure to read this wonderful story. It is one of the few books that I read again... Read review

Jack of All Trades
Review of Deep Blue Sea (Wide Screen) by  pishton

Advantages: Effects
Disadvantages: Poor storyline

......Master Of None. As you watch Deep Blue Sea you cannot help but think that you've seen this all before. The film shamelessly borrows (or steals?) ideas from movies such as: Jurassic Park (man messes with nature and nature turns on him), Jaws (giant sharks with big scary teeth), The Posideon Adventure (frantic escape attempts through water filled corridors), Titanic (naf love story between ruffian and his social better aboard a sinking vessel) In Deep Blue Sea's defence it does use the best bits of each film. The story moves along at a good pace. How Morgan Freeman ended up in a cast of reative unkowns is a mystery to me; he looks almost relieved as a monster shark whips him away. The comic interest is provided by L L Cool J and his parrot and they make a nice escape from, the improbabilities of the story. This film was sold on its... Read review
