into the fire
Review of Into The Fire - Bryan Adams by  juliebushnell

Advantages: all of it
Disadvantages: none

...In terms of commercial success this is not one of Bryan Adam's better albums. The follow-up to the Reckless album was always going to be virtually impossible. However, in terms of memorable songs I think this is an excellent album and contains some even better songs than on Reckless. Probably not as catchy on the first listen but songs such as "Native Son", "Rebel", and "Remembrance Day" just grow on you the more you listen. The rest of the album contains some fine guitar work and it?s the final chance to hear the remarkable song writing combination of Adams and Jim Vallance. Simply a MUST purchase for any Bryan Adams fan.... Read review

The spirit of Gram Parsons made whole again.
Review of Gold - Ryan Adams by  steerpyke

Advantages: beautiful and emotional songs
Disadvantages: none

...incorporating some wonderful gospel harmonies as it builds to a powerful finish. There is a lot of experimentation on this album, which shows the prolific and creative nature of the man. Many artists would be content to stick to the style that they had become known for but Adams is brave enough to thread all sorts of musical ideas and converging styles through his music. "When the Stars Go Blue" is a minimal heart wrenching ballad just a lonely man wrenching every ounce of emotion out of his acoustic guitar, "Sylvia Plath" is similarly wind swept a sparse but hear employing a piano and a violin. After mellowing out somewhat the power chords and overdriven electric guitar of "Enemy Fire" comes as quite a shock after the previous numbers. It's a song of power and restraint; the song struts along slowly, building suspense and dynamic, awaiting that big... Read review

The Origin of Everyday Things by Johnny Acton
Review of Origin of Everyday Things - Johnny Acton by  Martinscholes

Advantages: Very hard to put down
Disadvantages: Very hard to put down!

...knew that the first automatic fire alarm and smoke detector was developed by a Birmingham electrical engineer called George Darby? And which highly unusual component was used as the heat detector in this wonderful device that was, arguably, years ahead of itself? You will find the answer on page 20 of this highly enjoyable and most entertaining book. Also, fin out the location of the first ATMs, how bowling was developed, how the first electrical burglar alarm was invented in 1852, how World War 1 played a part in women's beauty in the 1920s and how Rugy developed into the sport that we know today. The book is copiously illustrated with very well executed line drawings and covers everything in alphabetical order from aerosol cans right through to Zipper, 318 pages later. It is hardback, published by Think Books at a cover price of £14.99.... Read review

What a dissapointment
Review of Bioshock (PC) by  scola_p

Advantages: Looks stunning
Disadvantages: So increadibly easy

...weapon, a wrench, and introduce you to some of the other denizens of Rapture, however, not long after starting the game, you get introduced to the first real difference about Bioshock - the plasmid. Plasmids are genetic modifications that you can apply to yourself to give special abilities. The first one you get is electrify, which allows you fire bolts of electricity around. Not only do these cause damage, but they can stun some of the You even get taught the trick of firing a bolt at water, if there are enemies stood in it, and it will zap all of them at once. As you progress through the game, a larger variety of plasmids become available, such as telekinesis, which allows you to pick up any loose object in the game and use it as a weapon and throw grenades back at people, to more directly offensive plasmids, such as incinerate, which sets... Live from Cloud Number 9
Review of Bryan Adams: Live At Slane Castle by  BennyRialto

Advantages: Music to rock to... whatever your age!
Disadvantages: Please Forgive Me too short... not a lot else!

...for a little bit of product placement, but if any of their executives (or indeed the angry so and so from their TV ads) are reading this, I am more than open to offers. Everything even resembling a Bryan Adams hit can be found here, from the lighter waving harmonies of Heaven, to the pleading Best Of Me and that everlasting number one from 1991 that I mentioned in opening. Best track though has to be the opener, Back To You: formerly an acoustic song recorded for MTV Unplugged a few years back, it’s cranked up a few decibels and given the electric treatment with some blinding guitars from Keith Scott. Makes me sound like Doctor Fox sure, but it’s hard not to wanna rock out (Insert weird devil worshipping salute here). Tack on some guest appearances from Mel C on When You’re Gone, Chicane on Don’t Give Up, and Ireland’s... Read review

The Freedom of Thought (At Last)
Review of Bioshock (Xbox 360) by  Concrete_Donkey

Advantages: Beautiful environments - Rich gaming experience - Wonderful plot
Disadvantages: Casts practically every other game in the genre in a bad light

...is evident throughout Rapture, which is strewn with innocent 50's style advertising cheerily declaring its benefits - "With Adam there's no reason not to be beautiful!" The irony is that you'll need to employ everything Adam has to offer if you're to escape Rapture and the Splicers alive. Successful combat hinges on combining your increasing genetic enhancements with an ever growing arsenal of traditional ballistic weapons. Yet the really clever aspect of Bioshock's combat lays within the ability to turn your surroundings into weapons in their own right. For example, equip the Electricity Plasmid and every innocuous looking pool of water becomes a death dealing device - simply manoeuvre your target into position and the high voltage bolts emitted from your fingertips are twice as effective. Similarly, the fire plasmid wreaks havoc on its... Read review

Jigsaws, see-saws..or something more fun
Review of Saw (Wide Screen) by  Magdalena

Advantages: Gripping, cringe-worthy in places, bit scary
Disadvantages: 'interesting' acting by some

...that makes every reviewer make comparisons to 'Seven', and rightly so. With motivations that are comparable to those in 'Seven', the Jigsaw Killer proves his point in the most gruesome of ways (which we are treated to), giving Saw its 18 certificate. There are some interesting directing tricks in Saw that give it the edge. Look out for the way the action is speeded up during the torture scenes, giving it that sense of urgency it requires. Another scene that was a personal favourite of mine was when we're seeing the last part of Adam's life before he woke up in the bathroom. He thinks there's someone in his apartment, and the electricity has gone. As a photographer, the most handy thing he has with a light to see by is his camera's flash. Here follows a tension filled scene of a person walking around his pitch-black apartment, taking... Read review

cup capers
Review of Liverpool by  gavinos

Advantages: cups=cash(and respect for the premier league
Disadvantages: i hate liverpool

...this is a jointly written op with one of my good friends, adam. We were just considering as to whether liverpool can realistically pull off their treble cup campaign this season... *adam* The most major obstacle they will have to overcome will be beating barcelona who are the strongest opposition technically they are likely to meet. They did well at the Nou Camp to hold them to a draw but i think Barca will come out with all pistons firing to capitalise and take the opportunity to do well in europe. *gavin* i agree ad, but as an arsenal supporter i cant see them beating us!!! i think they will get 2 cups, but i dont know which 2!?!? *adam* The league battle is likely to be an interesting event too, there are probably 5 teams who could take the third Champions league spot for next season, not least the mighty Ipswich Town!!!! *gavin... * Fire Investigate React Extinguish . .
Review of Fire Extinguisher by  smudgeybabes

Advantages: Good for small fires.
Disadvantages: There is a risk involved.

...from glass fibre or sometimes leather. They can be used on all types of fires. BCF :- (bromochlourodiflouromethane) These used to be very popular, and were suitable for all fires, however the fumes were slightly toxic, they were also safe to be used on electrics. BCF evaporates without leaving any mess. I have left this type in as there are so many still around, however they have now been replaced by:- FOAM :- Chemical foam, harmless. (but wet, so not for electrics) Leaves behind a foam that needs to be cleaned up, but no real hassle. WATER :- Similar to the one above as regards electrics, this is just plain water. Very cheap ro recharge. Most people will recognise some or all of the above extinguishers by the colour code, this was easy enough when the entire body was coloured blue for dry powder, red for water, cream for foam etc... Braun 360 Complete 8985
Review of Braun 8985 360° Complete System by  allansmith0314

Advantages: Closest electric shave yet, self cleaning
Disadvantages: Still not as good as a wet shave

...The best electric shaver I have used to date. I generally have a wet shave once a week and electric shave for rest of week due to easily irritable skin. This gives the closest electric shave I have experienced to date, although it is not brilliant around the throat and adams apple area and requires several attempts, but that has been the same with every other shaver I have used. I particularly like the 'docking station' which charges and cleans the shaver, i use it once a week and that is sufficient for charge and it is always very clean after the cleaning cycle. This alone saves me hours of dismantling and careful cleaning as with others I have previously used. Each cleaning fluid container lasts several months at this usage and are relatively cheap to replace, about £8 I think I paid. I have been using it for 7 months now... Read review
