A different taste of Mexico
Review of General: Mexico by  nicolavidal

Advantages: cheap, good climate, friendly people
Disadvantages: expect to pay tips in most places

...I have always been very interested in ancient culture and history, so when I had the chance to go to Mexico one of my long life dreams came true. Choosing the best alternative wasn’t an easy task but I finally decided upon an organized tour of 9 days that would cover 1500 km and cross 2 Mexican States: Peninsula del Yucatan and Chiapas. Before you travel there are a few tips to bear in mind: 1.Mexico is a large country so don’t think that you’ll be hot everywhere, temperatures can range from cool to very hot. 2.Wear comfortable clothes and shoes (if you’re going to visit the ruins and jungle it is advisable not to wear open style shoes; there are scorpions, snakes, etc that could bite you). 3.High protection suntan and mosquito repellent is strongly advisable. 4.Only drink bottled water. Don’t know... Read review

THE BEST !!!!!!!!
Review of Cancun (Mexico) by  Hawthorn

Advantages: Brilliant beaches, day time activities and weather.
Disadvantages: NONE !!!

...In summer 1998 I went on a holiday to Cancun in Mexico. This was the best holiday I have ever been on, even though I have been to many other places such as Florida, Mexico was the best. The daytime activities were excellent with many watersports. At night there were lots of different places to go and things to do. The weather in Cancun was brilliant with clear skies every day except one where it rained but this was a refreshing change. The best bit about Mexico is the beaches which are brilliantly clean with golden sand and crystal clear waters, perfect for snorkeling. If you are planning to go to mexico then I would recommend going on an all inclusive holiday as this was one thing that really made the holiday special.... Read review

Unbelizable
Review of General: Belize by  ImogenW

Advantages: Stunning diving and snorkelling, very laid back
Disadvantages: Not that cheap

...- or thats what the t-shirts would have you believe, anyhow. I spent two weeks there earlier this year on an adventure trip with my best mate, and was really quite impressed. The first thing to note is that unless you're on a mammoth regional trek it's a pain in the arse to get to. The airport's tiny, flights get booked up by rich americans wanting a local getaway and they're really expensive anyhow. You can fly into Guatemala and sign up for a ten-hour boneshaker bus trip, or trek down from Mexico (lots of cheap flights go to Cancun) - it's a long way, so plan on breaking the journey somewhere or hanging out in Mexico for a while. Once there, the best bit of Belize is easily the coast. It's got the second longest barrier reef in the world, which runs parallel to the coastline, and the islands inbetween are superb. Low, flat, sandy... Read review

Casa del Balam Hotel, Merida
Review of Casa del Balam Hotel, Merida by  matt_fantastic

Advantages: A unique and quaint hotel...
Disadvantages: Lacking a few mod-cons...

...We stayed in this hotel for a few days while on a little tour of the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico, including visits to Cancun (don't bother), Playa del Carmen & Cozumel (much better) and the amazing ancient Mayan ruins at Uxmal, Chitzen Itza and Tulum. (I'll try and get round to reviewing all these later...) We arrived by taxi from Merida airport (a short journey), having flown in from Cancun, where we had arrived in Mexico the day before, and were delighed with what we found, a massive improvement of the brash touristy-ness of Cancun ! The Casa del Balam Hotel was formerly the family home of Fernando Barbachano Peon, pioneer of Mexican tourism. A blend of Mexican tiles, terracotta and wrought iron, it has a small pool in a walled courtyand, complete with a stone carved fountain and tropical plants, a restaurant and bar, along with 43... Down Mexico Way
Review of General: Mexico by  AndrewPo

Advantages: Wonderful ancient ruins to explore
Disadvantages: food was often fairly poor

...A few years ago I went on a cultural tour of Mexico, visiting Mexico City, Merida, Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Oaxaca, Palenque and Monte Alban. Getting There The journey to Mexico from London Heathrow was easy and uneventful (apart from being upgraded to first class then being forced to use the Concorde Lounge. The First Class Lounge was being renovated) A direct BA flight taking just over 11 hours. Mexico City We had nothing booked on arrival apart from the first night's accommodation at the Best Western Majestic Hotel. This was a lucky choice as it must be one of the best in Mexico City, on the west side of Zocalo, the main square, with a 7th floor roof-terrace and restaurant overlooking the enormous plaza de la Constrictucion, Catedral Metroplitana and Palacio National. An absolutely fantastic location, and the roof terrace makes... Read review

A Fantastic Holiday
Review of Yucatan Peninsula (Mexico) by  Fiona2403

Advantages: A Fantastic holiday, especially for a honeymoon
Disadvantages: you get pestered a bit at markets

...My husband and I travelled to Mexico for our honeymoon. We booked the holiday through Kuoni. The holiday we booked was a one week tour of the Mayan sites, and then a 2 week stay at the Moon Palace in Cancun. When we landed at Cancun we transferred straight onto the tour and was met by our very entertaining and informative tourguide. All the hotels we stayed in on the tour were lovely, with spacious fantastically decorated, comfortable rooms. Our first stop was Chichen Izta, the most famous site. After a tour we were given free time to wander around and take in the sites - this made a change from usual "get off the bus, quick look round, get back on the bus" tours. Every day our guide took us to the days site early (8.30am) to ensure we had seen everything before the main heat of the day. It was also virtually empty and the resulting... Read review

Scooby Doo and the Monster of Mexico
Review of Scooby Doo And The Monster Of Mexico (Animated) by  Hansolo20x

Advantages: An original Scooby Doo mystery
Disadvantages: None if you like Scooby Doo

...Unfortunately I am one of the many parents who have to suffer with their children being Scooby Doo mad, Luckily I dont actually mind it......... My three year old loves anything Scooby Doo so we have bought him a number of the Scooby Doo animated films (As well as the live action movies). The Monster of Mexic story revolves around the gang taking a trip to Mexico to visit Freds penpal, all is not well and soon after there is an appearance from the Chupacabra (Mexicos answer to big foot). As with many of the gangs mysteries, the gang are usually running all over the place, but the soundtrack was good and animation excellent and the characters good. If you are a Scoody Doo this will appeal and the kids will love it!!! I have not had a chance to look at the extras as yet but there does seem to be a number of features that will appeal... The Ultimate Guide to From Dusk Till Dawn by Deiz
Review of From Dusk Till Dawn (Wide Screen) by  Deiz

Advantages: Never a dull moment
Disadvantages: They made a sequel

...of the film. As the extent of Ritchie's twisted nature unfolds, the pair brilliantly display how a bond still exists between brothers, no matter how far removed they are from each other. Of course, the film is not just about two brothers from opposing ends of the crime spectrum. They kidnap a preacher and his children and end up in Mexico where they plan to start a new life drinking beer and generally living it up away from the reaches of US law enforcement. However, their plans are jeopardized by hordes of vampires who inhabit a bar built on the site of an ancient Inca temple. Tarantino becomes a vampire himself, but not before justice is served on him by Salma Hayek, who plays a teasing table dancer with a passion for dribbling spirits down her leg, off her big toe and into wide-eyed Americans mouths. The first half of the movie is brilliantly... Read review

Mexico a go go
Review of General: Mexico by  mikeydred

Advantages: Fantastic Scenery, Friendly People, Great Food, Cheap Drink
Disadvantages: Big and Hot

...As you may be aware I've spent the last couple of weeks on holiday in Mexico, or that's what I thought. This opinion is not about my stay in Mexico but rather some points to note if you are thinking of Mexico as your destination for your holiday. The holiday itself has given me a lot of material that will probably be spread over several opinions as I've seen headings for the various bits under the Ciao travel umbrella. So here goes, in no particular order , a list of things that hit me about the place. I'll probably add things as they come to me later , but hopefully this will be of some help to you out there: ~~Distance From Britain, Mexico is a ten hour flight , so if possible get the seats with the most room possible. After half an hour you will really appreciate the extra room. My holiday cost around 1500 GBP and 150 GBP... Read review

Cultural Crossroads of the American Southwest
Review of Albuquerque by  BawBaw

Advantages: Vital, culturally diverse city with a proud and unique heritage
Disadvantages: Growing a bit too fast for its scarce resouces

...Albuquerque, New Mexico isn't for everyone. If your idea of the perfect environment includes lush green landscapes and abundant water recreation, then chances are you'll find Albuquerque a bit wanting. If, however, your tastes run toward the spectacle of mountains soaring majestically above the high desert, or to magnificent sunsets, or to the stark splendor of a barren landscape revealed in all its splendor--if these things appeal to your senses, then chances are you will love Albuquerque. Toss in a few hot-air balloons drifting gently in a brilliant blue sky, and you have an almost irresistible formula for attracting you to one of the Southwest's most exciting and underrated cities. Albuquerque was my childhood home. Thus, my inner child has fond memories of watching lightning dance in the night sky across the high peaks... Read review
