A demanding ski for the demanding skier
Review of Atomic Beta Ride 44105 by
stevenkan
Advantages: Extreme Performance!
Disadvantages: Demands to be worked hard, not for lazy cruising, pricey
...The Atomic Beta Rides fall into a new category (yes, another one!!) of skis for this year: "Free Ride". Free Rides are a cross between specialty powder skis and free carve skis. The shovel/tip end of the ski is very wide whilst the the waist is narrower than that of powder skis, giving them better performance on groomed runs. These skis will let you go and have fun all over the mountain.
The Atomics are one of the very best of this bunch of skis. It lets you attack the off piste powder as well as go very fast down the groomers too.
For specs, well it's bright orange, but that doesn't really affect much expect the looks you'll get in the line at the lifts!! It has Atomic's Power Channel technology which pre flexes the ski to give a quicker rsponse in short turns. It has a 17mm carving plate and titanium is used to reduce the weight...

Search independent ski holidays
Review of upmymountain.com by
Anna1984
Advantages: Search function was great, lots of chalets to choose from
Disadvantages: none!
...I searched for a ski holiday on Upmymountain.com and found plenty of suitable chalets. Although I was looking particularly for a ski chalet, there were many other ski hotels and ski holidays in apartments and other ski accomodation.
The navigation of the site was superb, as were the resort guides and news articles. I really enjoyed reading about how to entertain the children whilst travelling to your ski holiday!
So I contacted the ski chalet owners via the website, and checked thier availability for booking my ski holiday online. They were prompt with thier response and I managed to secure a good deal in La Plagne.
Brilliantly, on Upmymountain.com I also managed to book my ski holiday extras: ski hire, lift pass, transfer and ski school - fantastic!
There were so many ski deals on there I found it hard to choose, but I think I have...

The original freeride skis
Review of Salomon X Scream by
Domhughes
Advantages: Ease of turning, handling, style, following.
Disadvantages: None I can think of.
...I go to Sandown ski club ever week, and I always try to get the Salomon X-Screams. They are incredibly easy to turn, have a nice carving action, and are probably one of the best skis around. They have a huge free-ride following, and are used by beginners and experts alike. They are the skis by which all others are judged. The newer X-screams have the Prolink arms 'to guarantee ski/snow contact'. Wether it actually works is another matter... but it sounds and looks cool!
So basically, these skis will suit anyone, especially those who are looking to improve their turning and confidence, and want to learn how to carve easily.
Excellent skis!...

Value for money and better ski-ing
Review of Tignes by
keavy
Advantages: Cheap(ish), good snow
Disadvantages: only a few very easy runs which can get busy
...Tignes, part of the Espace Killy ski region lies the other side of the mountain from Val d'Isere.
Tignes is the cheaper of the two, and the atmosphere is much less like and Eton Boarding School Open Day and more like a multi-cultural resort.
The ski-ing in Tignes is superior to that of Val d'Isere with the majority of the black runs over this side. I would however recommend the full area lift pass so you can experience both resorts.
We stayed in Val Claret, not Tignes le Lac which was a good choice. Val Claret is situated at the base of all the main lifts and is serviced by a free ski bus to the other areas.
Tignes has an excellent snow record - we went late April and had no problems with the snow (well apart from the odd blizzard)!
A great place to ski for all...

The most famous resort around
Review of Val d´Isère by
Stavros
Advantages: Its Massive
Disadvantages: Expensive lift pass
...If you haven't heard of this place then you must be a ski / board virgin. One thing is for sure, after being here you won't be. Its the most famous resort going, simply because of its capacity and extensive skiing. The town can house loads of people and the skiing, when including Tignes is massive. They've got a great Downhill course for budding racers as well. Should be on telly in the Uk quite soon so check it out.
One really bad thing is the price of a lift pass. EEEEK it is expensive. So ski fast and get good value out of it. If you want to ski on some of the highest lift fed skiing in Europe, head up to the top Glacier at Tignes. You can't miss it. This will be some of the highest skiing you ever do....

a nice ski resort
Review of Serfaus by
ninja783
Advantages: personal, large, good snow quality
Disadvantages: see above
...Last winter Serfaus was connected with the neighbour ski resort Fiss-Ladis. Now there are one huge gondola, eight small gondolas eight chairlifts and 25 surface lifts. Altogether Serfaus has 160 ski run kilometres. Serfaus is 1427m high and you can go up up to 2800m. Because of this you can ski there from december to april and you allways will have enough snow.
I went nearly 15 times to Fiss-Ladis and this shows that it must be a great ski resort. There are a lot of possibilities to have lunch. You find good restaurants in the ski resort. But there are also vrey good and learnd ski schools and ski kindergartens in each village. In the evening there are not so good possibilities to go out, but when you want you will find some comfortable bars. I think this ski resort is best for families with childreen because of the huge offer.
I like...

WHOLE AGAIN
Review of Whole Again - Atomic Kitten by
leeds_united_17
Advantages: good song
Disadvantages: none
...This is one of the best Atomic Kitten songs that they have released and it was the last song that they done with Kerry as she left the band to have bryan from westlifes child.
The song Whole Again was one of the biggest selling singles of this year and it stayed on the number 1 spot for four weeks.
Liz, Natasha and Kerry were about to get kicked from there record company before they released this song as they werent selling enough records but they managed to get their new contract and arent there record company lucky as this song is the only one that has managed to stay at number 1 for so long this year anyway.
Atomic Kittens album is good and they have released it again as they have a new member in the group called Jenny and she left precious to be in atomic kitten.
The album includes see ya, follow me, cradle and whole again...

The Greatest Skis in the World
Review of Salomon Teneighty by
Xtasy
Advantages: Fun, fun, fun
Disadvantages: None
...I will never ski on any other ski than these. I love them to pieces.
In the 1999/2000 season, Salomon intrigued the ski market by introducing the first twin-tip ski for the consumer. A twin-tip ski is one that is raised at both the tip and the tail, allowing the skier to ski backwards as well as forwards. These skis heralded a revolution in the ski industry, which other ski manufacturers have joined.
Despite the influx of twin-tip skis in the 2000/2001 season, the Salomon 1080s are seen by many people as being the only ski of choice.
As an amateur freeride skier, I can't get enough of them. The 1080 has given me a new lease of life over the whole mountain. When jumping, I now have the option of landing or taking off backwards, without fear of having the tails of my skis jam into the snow and me ending up in a heap.
The skis have...

Skiing in Heavenly as a child
Review of Heavenly, Ski Resort by
eddytheted
Advantages: Lovely runs, fantastic coaches, great snow!
Disadvantages: Nightlife.
...I've loved skiing all my life, and 2 years ago me and my family went skiing in Heavenly, a fantastic ski resort right on the boarder or Nevada and California. I went in the spring, flying into San Francisco, spending a few days there before hiring a people carrier and driving up to Heavenly. The snow when I was there was fantastic. I was a competent skier but being 12 at the time, I went into a ski school more for the company than anything else. People under 13 can join the 'Heavenly Rockets.' The coaches were pleasent and they knew their stuff. All ski school groups were able to go right to the front of ski lift queues which was nice!
The lifts are all chair lifts. The runs are perfectly kept. Nightlife is not varied, casino's or casino's is your choice. There were however some good shows on in our and other hotels, magic shows...

Excellent Apres Ski
Review of Innsbruck by
sharondyer
Advantages: Small and quiet for First time skiers
Disadvantages: No Night clubs etc
...In 1992 and 1993 as a family we visited Kolsass Weer in Austria. The resort is made up of two small, quiet villages seperated by a bridge. Excellent accommodation, food and Apres Ski. Fantastic Instructors that took part with us at the Apres Ski Parties/Events. Friendly people at all of six hotels at the resort. Very regular Ski Buses to take you to a variety of pistes from the main village road (outside most hotels).
Both occasions we went with Airtours and both trips were well arranged and everything such as excursions to the Austrian Olympic Tobogganing Park were very cheap in relation to the adreneline rush that happened when we did eventually go down the tobogan route with professionals.
The resort was around 2 hours transfer from the Airport which is quite average for a ski resort but the roads were quite average to compare...
