Audi A4
Review of Audi A4 1.9 TDI by
adamclayton101
Advantages: Acceleration (V6, S4), Automatic-transmission performance (CVT), Steering/handling, Ride (base suspension), Interior materials, Available AWD
Disadvantages: Rear-seat room
...The vast majority of A4s are sold with quattro. Quattro A4s with 4 cyl and automatic transmission feel slightly underpowered. Manual-transmission quattro 1.8Ts are lively enough, while manual-transmission V6 quattros are satisfyingly quick. Lighter front-drive models feel spry with any transmission, though CVT versions are lazy from a stop. Test 1.8T CVT sedan did 8.6 sec 0-60 mph; test V6 CVT Cabriolet did 7.8. Seamless CVT acts much like conventional automatic, but requires use of manual mode for best performance. Manual transmissions controlled by precise shifters. S4's V8 strong at all speeds; test sedan did 5.6 sec 0-60.
Averages for manual-transmission test models: 1.8T sedan, 24.8 mpg; 1.8T Avant, 21.5; V6 quattro sedans,18.3-21; S4 sedan, 15.6; S4 Avant, 15.9; S4 Cabriolet, 14.1. Audi says CVT is 10 percent more fuel efficient...

New Model A4 1.8T
Review of Audi A4 1.8 T by
Niknak
Advantages: Looks, performance, price
Disadvantages: ummm, nope, still can't think of any
...Thought it was time for an update seeing as I've had the car for over 6 months...
I'd always had a thing about Audis, I'd love an S6 but the budget won't stretch, so the A4 was an obvious choice. Looking at the range I had the choice of the entry-level 2.0 of the 1.8T in either 2 wheel drive or Quattro. Comparing the performance the 2.0 pushes out 130bhp with the 1.8T raising this to 150bhp, simple choice then. Comparing this with the 3 series, the 318 offers only 112bhp, with the 320 jumping upto 170bhp, though the new model increases capacity to 2.3 litres. After test driving both variants I decided on the 2 wheel drive, though the brochure gives the same 8.4sec 0-60 time, the 2 wheel drive seems quicker, probably as the Quattro has the power being put out to all 4 wheels. I must say though that the Quattro definitely has the edge...

Long Term Usage
Review of Audi A4 Avant 2.5 TDI by
harryson
Advantages: Performance, traction, driving position
Disadvantages: dealer service
...I purchased one of the first 2.5TDi Quattro A4's following their release onto the British market in Aug 98. I wanted to combine the fantastic roadholding qualities of the quattro system with a more economical package than the petrol 2.8 turbo.
From collection I was very impressed with the car. The engine sounds good for a start and goes like a dream with an apparently unending delivery of power. The standard 6 speed gearbox is not the smoothest but with a definate touch it does deliver. The car handles very well with the standard sports suspension occasionally making the car a bit rough on Britain's poor roads but being absolutely ideal on the German autobahns.
Unfortunately I cannot have a good word to say about either the Audi dealer who supplied the car (over 6 months passed before I received all the extras I'd paid for) nor...

Running a used A4 3.0 Quattro Saloon
Review of Audi A4 3.0 by
richardwest1
Advantages: Performance, Build Quality, Reliability, and Practicality.
Disadvantages: Running costs may not suit all people.
...This is my second Audi A4, and I bought it on the strength of my experiences with my previous A4. My car is a 2002 model 3.0 Quattro Sport with the 6 speed manual ‘box.
I bought this car used with 55,000 miles on the clock 6 months ago, replacing my previous car, which had covered 107,000 miles. The key strengths of this car are much the same as the previous car, namely: Reliability, Build quality, Comfort, Practicality, and Driving Involvement.
I bought this car, as I also wanted more performance, as well as a newer car with lower mileage. The 3.0 6-cylinder engine is wonderfully smooth and quiet in general driving, while under harder acceleration it provides a suitably sporting growl. The six-speed ‘box doesn’t rev any lower in top gear than my 2.0’s 5 speed, but the closer ratios make it extremely flexible for open road/A road...

Cute scoot
Review of Audi A4 Cabriolet by
tagheur
Advantages: pretty smart
Disadvantages: pretty expensive
..., it turns out that you can have no less than 5 different engines and three different gearboxes in the A4 Cab. As if that wasn’t enough, the car can be had with option of two or four-wheel drive (Audi’s famous Quattro) and there are no less than 13 different alloy wheel patterns, 17 external colours, 15 interior trims and 7 trim inlay variations. And we haven’t even started on the optional extras yet! You begin to wonder if they’ve ever built two the same.
The big question is which engine to have… Hmmm. Here’s what you get; 163ps in the 1.8T, 170ps in the 2.3 (why did they bother?) 163ps in the diesel, 220ps in the 3.0 and a whopping 344ps in the V8 powered S4, which just happens to be exactly one horsepower more than BMW’s M3 – Vorsprung durch technik as they say in Germany, which roughly translated means, “Up yours BMW”
Of course...

Still looks good
Review of Audi TT Coupe 1.8T quattro (180 bhp) by
tynegal
Advantages: Great looks, excellent acceleration and 4wd roadholding
Disadvantages: Low mpg, only room for 2
...phone kit.
The insurance was and is cheaper than I expected (age helps), partly becasue it is a safe car. I haven't had it serviced by Audi (20000m with an interim at 10000m) because their prices are ridiculous. I can get it done with genuine Audi parts and oil for half the dealer price.
* Likes: looks, quattro road holding, heated seats
* Dislikes: six CD changer which is on the passenger side in the back seat, aluminium gear knob which is freezing in the winter
* Not bothered: seating capacity, low mpg (27 urban, though mid 30s on a long drive)
I haven't been tempted to buy one of the new models because 1) you only get quattro with the bigger engine and 2) I do less milage now and can't justify the expense of a new car.
* I went to try a BMW Z4 before settling on the TT. But no one came to talk to me in the showroom - did they think...

Audi ? not for me!!
Review of Audi TT Coupe 1.8T quattro (225 bhp) by
macteykith
Advantages: looks good, smooth drive
Disadvantages: cant see properly, faddy, posing car, drinks fuel
...Having recently been in a position of getting an Audi TT Quattro in black for a knock down price, and only being the second owner, it was an impulse buy.
At first everything was good, it had a CD changer, heated seats, computer telling you everything, and the looks you got when driving were fun. The novelty really REALLY wears off fast however.
After about a week of driving, having such a noticeable car started to become a problem rather than being a bit of fun. It might just be me but I was constantly checking it to make sure it was safe from people. Even in car parks, where there were much nicer cars, I would be paranoid because it would stick out so much.
The window was certainly interesting. Designed more for what it looks like than function, you really had to sit well in order to get a proper view of the road, and if not...

TT Coupe Quattro 225 friend or foe??
Review of Audi TT Coupé Quattro by
170driver
Advantages: Fast, fun, solid build, reliable engine, and very safe
Disadvantages: Not very pratical, more of a posers car then a serious sports car
...Test model
Audi TT 225 Quattro
Reg No. X665 NLB
Imported model LHD
Mileage 73,100
Actual 0-60: 5.5 secs
Obtained MPH: 147mph
The Audi TT since its release has been a highly successful coupe. Released in 1998 in Europe the baby Audi has certainly proved it is not a baby under the skin. Our model we purchased is a 2000 X plated imported model (registered UK in 2002) has got just over 73,000 miles and is the metallic denim blue, with the RS4 18" alloys. A truly stunning car.
We bought our TT for £9495 not bad considering the mileage and the fact it's a 225 Quattro with 18" alloys, full blue inside, and a 10 CD changer. I live in Birmingham and picked up the car from the Bucks town of Chesham so had to quickly find my bearings in a town I had never been in a LHD car. It was interesting. After a few payment issues and long trawl...

Understated style
Review of Audi A4 2.4 by
Beriliyum
Advantages: Power, Style without the 'lookatme' factor
Disadvantages: Licence Buster, Expensive to run
...Having been fortunate enough to have driven many different cars in this class, I find the Audi a very satisfying drive.
My model is fitted with the sports suspension pack, which improves the already excellent handling, albeit at the expense of a small increase in road vibration. Don't take this the wrong way - road humps (speed bumps / sleeping policemen) can still be taken at around 20 -25 MPH if you so desire.
One option I wish the vehicle was fitted with is Traction Control. Having such a powerful engine, allied to front-wheel drive is a recipe for tyre destruction. It is very difficult not to wheelspin the car in wet conditions. I have had the vehicle break traction in 3rd gear in the wet, just from 'normal' acceleration. The first set orf front tyres lasted 6000 miles, subsequent sets around 12,000. I blame this on the fact...

Premium Quality Car Offering Good Value for Money
Review of Audi A3 1.9 TDI SE by
richardwest1
Advantages: Economy, Build Quality, Residual Value, Desirability...
Disadvantages: Less performance than others at this price
...This review is based on my experiences of running this car over 10 days and 800 miles as a courtesy car.
The Audi A3 is a premium small family car and priced at the top of this particular segment. The car I used was the limited special edition version available on the road at a discounted price of just over £16,000. My initial reaction to being given the cheapest Audi in the range was one of disappointment as my own car is a well specified A4 with quattro and I also prefer the response of petrol engines. I was very pleasantly surprised by the A3 though.
As expected the interior build quality is superb and equal to that of more expensive models in the Audi range. Where the savings have been made are in the basic specification: Manual air-con, standard cloth seats, no front fog lights and single CD player etc. There is a good amount...
