Audi after sales service
Review of Audi by
Aldrethboy
Advantages: none
Disadvantages: everything
...I am experiencing a very poor customer service.
A year ago I purchased a A4 TDI Avant from John Fox Audi in Nottingham (now part of Synter) with a FSH and extended warranty for 1 year. At the time of purchase the car had covered 67,000 miles. Two weeks ago the car developed a gearbox fault with was related to the gearboxs ECU unit and input shaft. The dealer Sytner Audi in Slough said no problem - warranty will cover. It now transpires that the gearbox oil was not changed at 40 - 42,000 miles or rather there is no record of it being changed.
Audi's warranty department claim its the dealer fault, Sytner Slough say its Nottingham's fault and the Warranty departments. Audi Customer Service Department claim it is Nottingham's fault. Nottingham claim it is Peterborough's fault for not having any records, and yes I'm sat in the middle...

New Model A4 1.8T
Review of Audi A4 1.8 T by
Niknak
Advantages: Looks, performance, price
Disadvantages: ummm, nope, still can't think of any
...Thought it was time for an update seeing as I've had the car for over 6 months...
I'd always had a thing about Audis, I'd love an S6 but the budget won't stretch, so the A4 was an obvious choice. Looking at the range I had the choice of the entry-level 2.0 of the 1.8T in either 2 wheel drive or Quattro. Comparing the performance the 2.0 pushes out 130bhp with the 1.8T raising this to 150bhp, simple choice then. Comparing this with the 3 series, the 318 offers only 112bhp, with the 320 jumping upto 170bhp, though the new model increases capacity to 2.3 litres. After test driving both variants I decided on the 2 wheel drive, though the brochure gives the same 8.4sec 0-60 time, the 2 wheel drive seems quicker, probably as the Quattro has the power being put out to all 4 wheels. I must say though that the Quattro definitely has the edge...

Audi Finchley Road AKA Spire Automotive Ltd
Review of Audi by
Sanj2008
Advantages: NONE - KEEP AWAY
Disadvantages: Poor Customer service - they cause damage to your vehicle and do not care
...Letter to Audi Head of UK: Jeremy Hicks, Audi Customer case reference number: 73255. I would strongly advise anyone from using Audi Finchley, their service must be the worst customer service I have ever received, I will keep this post updated to inform readers if the matter was resolved or if I ended up taking legal action. As a furhter note to anyone getting their Audi serviced or repaired by an authorised dealer you should note that Audi Finchley Road is owned by Spire Automotive Ltd and they also own Watford Audi, Hatfield Audi and Whetstone Audi - so I would advise anyone who expects Audi customer service to keep well away from these dealerships.
I need to bring to your attention a lack of service which I have received from Audi Finchley Road.
On 15 June 2007 I purchased an Audi Q7 and immediately upon taking delivery...

Audi 80 - The Legend
Review of Audi by
thevirus
Advantages: Good looks, no corrosion, good performance
Disadvantages: Drinks petrol quite heavily, but diesel version is very economical
...I have driven an Audi 80 1.8S for the past 5 years, eventhough my car is now nearly 13 years old. SO WHY HAVE I LIKED THIS CAR SO MUCH?
Well for its time, the Audi 80 was a very modern car, unlike any other for its time.
It was the only car to have a fully galvonised body, leading to a 10 year garuntee against corrosion, which my car has fulfilled perfectly, THERE IS NOT A TOUCH OF RUST ANYWHERE!
Also, this car had looks, the shape of this car was left untouched for almost 10 years! I mean, for instance, the Ford Escort has been modified time and time again to make it more appealing, but in the end they had to scrap it!
Four doors, all electrics, including mirrors, this standard 1.8 engine could reach up to 140 MPH with out any problem at all, the 1.8E, with its injection fuel system, could reach speeds much higher than this...

Excellence In A Motor Car
Review of Audi 80 1.8 by
polydeuces
Advantages: Very reliable, superb to drive
Disadvantages: Expensive spares
...To read the motoring press sometimes you would think the only thing which makes a car excellent is a little badge that says ‘Made In Germany’. They would have you believe that the best sports car are Porsches, the best saloons are Mercedes, the best small cars are Volkswagens and the best designed and engineered cars would have to be Audis. The question is ; is this reputation justified? On the basis of my experience with an Audi 80 I would have to agree. Of all the company cars I have had this has been the best.
The question is ; is this reputation justified? On the basis of my experience with an 1992 Audi 80 I would have to agree. Of all the company cars I have had this has been the best. As I drive about 40 to 50,000 miles per year I am in a position to judge a car pretty quickly. When you spend this long in a car you...

CLK 200 Kompressor (AMG) Cabriolet
Review of Mercedes CLK 200 kompressor Cabriolet by
BollingtonBob
Advantages: Style (with AMG kit), roof, interior space, it is NOT an Audi
Disadvantages: Price, performance, scuttle shake, rear seat access
...to be preferred to the Audi's suspension and hood mechanism faults. In sum, the M-B is a great cruiser, much better with the hood down than the Audi for back seat passengers, the roomiest 4 seat cabrio we have found (have not tried the new Bentley !!), with good economy, excellent seats and ride, and a dealer who is trying to improve the tranished M-B service image. Options are expensive, but the basic car is very good, but I would recommend the V6 over the supercharged straight 4. Why didn't M-B put the 270cdi engine in this car (as it did with the coupe) ?...

A8 Audi
Review of Audi A8 2.8 by
jonlucaz
Advantages: Looks Stylish
Disadvantages: Low drag in corners
...Audi’s aluminum A8 is a handsome beast. There’s nothing retro or classic about it – the rounded shape is bang up to date. Despite its soft styling it still looks strong, as a big car should without being overly aggressive. The rear end is square, but the kicked-up flanks look perfect.
Despite being quite light, the 2.8-litre version is certainly no hot rod, with just 174bhp and 185lb ft of torque on offer. The 3.7-litre versions obviously improve substantially on these figures, but add seven and a half grand to the asking price at the same time. The 2.8-litre takes 11 lazy seconds to reach 60mph and the in-gear times are sluggish, too. In the engine’s defence it feels smooth and strong, if not quick-revving. The automatic gearbox is partly to blame. It has no ‘sport’ mode, and while it swaps ratios smoothly, it often refuses to kick...

98 Audi A3 1.8 Sport.
Review of Audi A3 1.8 by
Devon22
Advantages: Reknowned build quality and reliability, sporty handling.
Disadvantages: It's the wife's not mine.
...The hunt for the Audi A3 we now own began after we decided the escalating petrol prices were no longer for us. Running a 2.6 V6 tends to get expensive at todays prices. The only replacement to my wifes exceptionally well behaved V6 Vectra had to be an Audi A3.
Something small and fun for the adults to drive, but also well behaved, safe and with an air of prestige about it for when the kids are on board. We picked up an 98 (R), one owner, 90k mile with FSH example which could only be described as near immaculate. In stunning silver with 15" 6 spoke light alloy wheels.
To drive the car feels as tight as I imagine it did when new, and handles exceptionally well thanks to Audi's many years experience in the rally field. Although the car does hold the promise of "sport" at best it is a warm hatch as opposed a hot hatch producing 125 bhp...

Quality and usefulness
Review of Audi A6 Avant 1.8 T by
heathfield
Advantages: Style, quality feel, admiring glances, 7 seater option
Disadvantages: Expensive dealer network
...I am now on my second A6 Avant 1.8T so I guess you could say that speaks for itself, but company car policy dictates I drive an Audi. I bought the first one in Germany and imported it and was treated like traitor by Audi (UK). Unfortunately, I had plenty of dealings with them as the car filled up with water inside every time it rained. This in turn found its way into the electrics and all sorts of problems ensued. It took nearly two years to get fixed and in the end I had to drive it back to where I bought it....in Germany. Thanks again Audi UK.
I have just taken delivery of a UK spec'd and delivered A6 Avant 1.8T SE that has an unusual extra. 7 seats. I also own an Espace, but I needed something a bit nippier to transport the kids around. No luggage space with the kiddies seats in the boot, but I'm used to that. You can take the last...

Now little money for a lot of car.........
Review of Audi 100 Avant TDI by
roverp5b
Advantages: Very comfortable, quick and economical
Disadvantages: Expensive to maintain if things go wrong, most cars left are high mileage
...The final generation Audi 100 was produced from 1991 - 1994 and continued (re-badged as an Audi A6) throught to 1997.
For some reason this cars was never as popoular as its BMW and Mercedes rivals, despite it being a fine executive car.
Even the latest examples of this model are now 10 years old and being diesel tend to be high mileage. Nonetheless they are testament to Audi's build quality.
You can now pick these up for less that £2500, which is a small price for the levels of refinements, luxury, space and safety you get.
The example I owned had 142,000 miles on the clock, but ran superbly, was comfortable, easy to drive and very lively.
If driven carefully it would regularly return 47mpg (you could probably get more from the 6 speed version) and even if driven spiritedly it would not drop much below 45 mpg.
The leather seats...
