Reviews of barbour
So good I've got three of them
Review of Barbour Outdoor Clothing by
peterkinxl5
Advantages: Timeless styling, very duarble, exceptionally comfortable, repairable in almost all cases(see review)
Disadvantages: Requires regular checking and one rewax at least once a year, can smell, heavyweight classic wax designs not available in blue or black.
...~I first purchased a Barbour Jacket back in 1987-a Border design in Navy Blue. It had gone throgh the wars and eventually gave up through years of abuse which proved terminal.
But for today's purposes I will stick to the Northumbria jacket. Now I like them so much, I have three. THREE? A long story but one was given FOC in effect from my local Barbour Retailer-Barretts of Feckenham in Wolverhampton after Barbour had an "accident" repairing a much loved Solway Zipper jacket I'd had.
The Nothumbria is in the Barbour "Classic" range of jackets made of Heavyweight "Sylkoil" Waxed cotton. It has two handwarmer pockets, two large studded main pockets, two large inside pockets with detachable pouches, one inside pocket to hold walletts etc and finally a small concealed zip pocket to hold coins etc. Studs are provided for an optional lining...

indestructible jacket
Review of Barbour Outdoor Clothing by
SASO1
Advantages: tough and waterproof
Disadvantages: not very cool
...This jacket seems to be indestructible! I have had two both passed down to me from family members so they were already at least 5 years old when I got then and I must have had one for at least 10 years and it is still going strong.
They are nice and waterproof and windproof but you do need to wear a jumper underneath so they are not like a full on winter coat. This is quite good as it makes it an ideal autumn winter and spring coat and you vary the warmth level by the number of under layers.
I rewax my about every three years, you can buy the wax from barbour outlets and some equestrian shops - it costs about £5 for a tin which will last several years - be warned you do not need to put much wax on the jacket overwaxing will make it sticky.
They are good for walking and riding and you can get them in different lengths including the one...

Not just for the Horsey set
Review of Barbour Outdoor Clothing by
dobieg
Advantages: Indestructable, and the only jacket you'll ever need
Disadvantages: Expensive, but worth every penny
...Nothing quite sums up the British 'country set' as the ubiquitous waxed cotton 'Barbour' jacket.
The founder (John Barbour) was actually a Scotsman, and formed the company which bears his name in the Northumbrian port of North Shields, supplying oilskins for the fishing industry.
Over time, he diversified to provide a range of clothing which suited practically any outdoor pursuit where rain and harsh weather are important factors.
To this day, the company produce a vast array of clothing items mostly catering for the "huntin' shootin' and fishin" set - including jackets, trousers, shorts, gillets, hoods, equestrian gear etc.
It was only in the 1980s that the wax jacket became popularised in the 'yuppie bible'; 'The Sloan Ranger Handbook' in which - Barbour was the die-facto brand of choice.
This, predictably, resulted in thousand...

Stop selling this s**t!
Review of Sun In Lemon by
gizmo1515
Advantages: cheap(because it's c**p)
Disadvantages: makes you look like a carrot
..., but then i actually did look ginger so i decided not to use anymore, dreading the next day at school to be called all the names you could think of i tried hiding in the shade to avoid the light which makes it look lighter, by the end of the day i had enough and went down to my nearest barbours to have it cut of, i told the barbour about it and she said it willcontinue to lighten the more you stay in the sun, so i had it cut down to a grade 5 to find that my hair is stil this horrible yellow-orangey colour which will take weeks to fully go. So if your deciding to use sun-in. . . DONT DO IT, YOU WILL REGRET IT when you look like a carrot!!!...

The Luddites of The Razor World
Review of BIC Normal Skin Razor by
Champ666
Advantages: Cheap and Gives a Good Shave
Disadvantages: You need to Know how to shave
...My Grandfather taught me how to use a slit-throat razor, there is a real art to it, but it will give you the smoothest shave you have ever experienced, as well as exfoliating the skin. When I have time I will still occasionally use a slit-throat razor, or will go to a local Barbour to have it done. Nothing beats the shave you get from one....
During my shaving career I have tried every technological advancement in shaving technology..... Twin Blade razors, Twin blade razors with lubrastrip, triple blade razors and so on. None of these have had a noticeable effect on the smoothness of the shave at all other than the initial placebo effect...... "I have just spent a wad of cash on this wonderful piece of shaving technology and therefore it must be better"...... The most noticeable effect shaving technology has had is upon my wallet...

It Says Nivea for MEN so it is MANLY
Review of Nivea For Men Shaving Gel Sensitive by
Champ666
Advantages: No Shaving Rash
Disadvantages: Ridicule from Housemates
...as no other shaving foam has had this effect. The only other way I can have a rash free shave is to go to a proper Barbour and have a good olde cut throat shave but that is a tad expensive.
So it you are a man with sensitive girly skin buy it you will not regret it, or if your man has sensitive girly skin buy it for him and save him the embarrassment of buying Nivea products....

The Caithness Crackle Factor
Review of Caithness FM by
Aspen
Advantages: Local Radio with a capital L.
Disadvantages: Don't expect information on anything happening south of Lairg.
...;Which celebrity was pictured on the front page o’ the John o’Groats Journal this week, wearing a green Barbour jaiket and green wellies?”
Crackle, crackle.
“No, it was Willie Gunn, the butcher frae (crackle)”
If ever there was anything could take the stress out of your life, this is it.
Be yourself, Caithness FM. Preserve your identity. Don’t succumb to the temptation to play with the big boys.
Don’t ever change....

Toni & Guy metrocentre gateshead
Review of Toni and Guy by
ladlee
Advantages: good end result, friendly & welcoming environment
Disadvantages: Not the banter of a barbour shop
...Since turning 20 I've been getting a bit sick of the old 'short back & sides.' I thought I'd try a more upper market salon than a barbour shop. There's a few of both in the metrocentre, the shopping mall in Gateshead, Tyneside.
I was just after an improvement but not sure what. I'd a recommendation of Toni & Guy. I looked around the metrocentre on a quiet Tuesday morning to check out all salons, not just T&G.
The others had groups of staff, who weren't cutting hair, crowding round a seat. This always puts me off any kind of shop.
However the few members of staff in T&G were cutting hair, with one sitting behind the desk looking busy. I went in, asked if you had to have an appointment, which you did and made one for an hour later.
Time passed & I returned to the salon. I was saw to pretty quickly & put on a gown & shown to a seat...
