What are you doing this weekend
Review of Barcelona in general by
LBoy
Advantages: So much to see
Disadvantages: Finding somewhere to stay
...Barcelona is only 2-hour flight away and the fare including tax is only around £100 or less... What are you doing this weekend?
Come to the beautiful seafront of Barcelona and enjoy the gentle sea breeze of Mediterranean Sea. You can even ride a cable car over the modern habour of Barcelona. It will take you to the clean sandy beaches (St Sebastia) just beyond the habour. The cable car also goes to a hill (Montjuic) where you'll find the vast Olympic Stadium (Estadi Olimpic), and a domed palace (Palau Nacional) which is now a museum of Catalan art. On top of the hill, there is a disused military fortress (Castell de Montjuic) that can be reached also by cable car. Up here, you'll appreciate the panoramic view of Barcelona city. To go down from Montjuic to street level, try the funicular railway (Funicular de Montjuic) or just walk down...

Barcelona unwrapted
Review of Barcelona (Spain) by
disneykelly
Advantages: beautiful sights, shops, nightlife
Disadvantages: can be expensive
...Barcelona, the cosmopolitan capital of Spain boasts plenty of attractions for natives and tourists. Be sure to see the classic harbour overlooking the beaches, the beautiful boutiques around the ramblas, market shops where you can spend hours a selection of sights to visit and the amazing nightlife - it has it all. The City is perfect for all ages, and covers a variety of budgets.
There is so much to see and do in Barcelona - beautiful gothic cathedrals are located in many of the cities squares, surrounded by cafes and fashionable restaurants.
La Sagrada Familia - built by Gaudi which was and never finished is a lovely afternoon trip and after walking all day have a drink at Placa Reial.
Don't forget to visit all the museums. Barcelona does boast about it's art collections, sculptures, and the Salvador Dali museum at Figueras...

The Great Catalunyic City
Review of Barcelona (Spain) by
ewan_1991
Advantages: Wonderfull Architecture.
Disadvantages: None
...Barcelona, voted the worlds best city is situated on the North East of Spain, sitting lively on the mediteranean sea. Although my visit to the Capital of Catalunya was short, I saw the best places of Barcelona on the top of a double-decker bus.
The buildings are beautifull and are extremely detailed. Architects and artists galore! The most fabulous landmark I saw was definately "La Sagrada Familia". This is a massive gothic cathedral which is the work of Antoni Gaudi. It has been under construction since 1882, and is most definately the most popular museums in Barcelona.
Antoni Gaudi's work is proved to be very popular with tourists!
An attraction I would have liked to visit but unfortunately ran out of time too see was the "Museu Picasso". This museum is the most popular art gallery in Barcelona. It is home to a very large...

Barcelona es guapa
Review of Barcelona in general by
nicolavidal
Advantages: great cultural diversity and cosmopolitan
Disadvantages: none
...The first thing that a visitor should do when visiting this marvelous city is forget all the preconceptions that they have about Spain - Barcelona is another world!
As you might know Barcelona is situated in Catalunya (Spain is divided in many regions and Catalunya is one of them). Each region has their own cultural background, customs, traditions and some speak other languages. Catalunya is very different from the rest of the regions in Spain and Barcelona is its capital.
If you went to Barcelona and were expecting to see some bullfighting or flamenco dancing, you are in the wrong place!! Barcelona is a city well known for its cultural diversity and for being very cosmopolitan.
I am not going to give you an extensive description of areas to visit, just some guidelines, I believe the best way of discovering a city is by getting a map...

Catalonian Summers
Review of Barcelona in general by
EmmBaz
Advantages: An historic, atmospheric, exciting, culturally bombarded, beautiful city
Disadvantages: The heat can be extreme
...from his blue period. Then a short train ride from Barcelona will take you along the coast, to deserted sandy coves.
Barcelona is stooped in history and atmosphere, on the backstreet walls are bullet holes where Franco is said to have assasinated many. It is this city's recent escape from dictatorship that gives you the feeling that freedom is so embraced and celebrated. Catalans are proud of their culture and flags drape down beside washing from balconies high up the plaza's.
Whether you want a long romantic weekend away, or a few weeks holiday, somewhere peaceful or somewhere vibrant I would recommend Barcelona to you, it has it all!...

A GREAT CITY TO VISIT
Review of Barcelona (Spain) by
ruth1957
Advantages: There is always more to see
Disadvantages: none
...Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain .it is situated between the Collserola Hills to the north and to the south the Mediterranean.Collserola is part of the coastal mountain range that shelters the north-west part of the city of Barcelona. The highest point of this mountain range is the peak of Tibidabo and it has amazing views over the city.
The climate is typical of the Mediterranean with mild dry winters and warm humid summers. The coldest months are January and February.
There are 68 municipal parks which are divided into 12 historic parks 5 botanical parks,45 urban parks and 6 forest parks.
Also there are several beaches which are worth going to.
Placa Catalunya is the historical part of the city and stretches alongside the upper half of Avinguda Diagonal which is the main commercial area of Barcelona.
I found the best...

A Must Visit!
Review of Barcelona in general by
simonc
Advantages: Everything you could wish for - diversity.
Disadvantages: Pick-pockets in some areas, and too hot in August
...Barcelona is one of the richest cultural cities in Europe, with something for everyone, from the art enthusiast who would appreciate the Gaudí architecture to the football fanatic for whom a visit to the Nou Camp is like a trip to Mecca. If you have never been to Barcelona, I would recommend you do so. Having lived there for a year, I can honestly say I have never been anywere like it, nor have I yet seen the half of it! It has the beach, the mountains, the city and the village, all rolled into one. The only downside might be, if you visit in August, everyone will have shut up shop and gone away for the month - it is too hot at that time of year. Ideal time to visit is in Spring or Autumn....

Hotel Lloret, Barcelona
Review of Hotel Lloret, Barcelona by
decroisic
Advantages: excellent, convienient location right on la Ramblas
Disadvantages: there werent any for me!
...fine, on the small size! I would definitely go back to the hotel, and happily recomend it.
getting there - we got cheap flights from Bournemouth with Ryanair (£26.50, + 18 ish euros for a return ticket on Barcelona Bus from Girona airport right into the city to the bus station - and back).
Barcelona is one of my favourite cities - so full of life & variety yet i think it caters for all tastes - its got the beach, the Olympic stadium, Art & Gaudi & Dali, tango, tapas & tons more. My favs: palau de la musica - stunning, Bar Pastis - tango nights tues & thurs, Casa Mila (La Pedrera) - gaudi's chimneys so magical if you get as dusk is just coming (check opening times!).
Just writing this, I know now, I will be going back & staying again at Lloret - Barcelona is my fix & i want more. Hope you enjoy it too....

Viva Barcelona!
Review of Barcelona Airport (BCN) by
vickitomlinson
Advantages: Great shops, clean and spacious, good signs
Disadvantages: Can be slow to queue for things...
...Barcelona – capital of the Spanish province of Catalonia and one of the airports serving the popular Costa Brava as well as the bustling, historic city of Barcelona. Have flown into Barcelona roughly 5 times in the last copula of years and have had no serious problems or complaints with it.
Prat de Llobregat airport has three large, spacious terminals – A (long haul and EU destinations - most of the budget airlines fly into here), B (EU destinations – most of the budget airlines fly into here) and C (mainly domestic flights) A and B are next door to one another whilst C is a short shuttle bus journey away. Most of the car hire companies can be found in terminal B, in my experience.
Each terminal has all the usual facilities – check in desks, cafes, tourist information, bureau de change, car hire and toilets...

A PICTURESQUE OF A CITY
Review of Barcelona (Spain) by
Zebra
Advantages: See Opinion
Disadvantages: See Opinion
...Barcelona’s three and a half million inhabitants make it Spain’s second largest city. It is the capital of Catalonia since medieval times; it possesses one of the Mediterranean’s best harbours and is also an important industrial and commercial centre. It is a city I know very well seeing my brother and his wife moved there five years ago. The more I visit Barcelona the more I like it.
What is particularly striking about Barcelona is its beauty. It occupies an impressive site, dominated by the hills of Montjuich close to the harbour and the old centre. There is a place called Tibidabo, it is well worth making an excursion to the top of Tibidabo to see the view. It stands at about 1750 feet above sea level and there you will get a magnificent view of the whole town.
Barcelona’s old town contains beautiful buildings going back to the 12th...
