Reviews of blade runner
One day, all games will be like this.
Review of Blade Runner (PC) by
Grix_Thraves
Advantages: All.
Disadvantages: None
...Late in the 20th Century, Westwood Studios advanced the adventure genre into the NEXT phase - using a game virtually identical to the dystopian cinematic that spawned it - known as BLADE RUNNER.
Blade Runner immediately identified itself as being superior in style and depth, and at least equal in enjoyability, to the best that the legendary LucasArts coding house had ever constructed.
Blade Runner is being used across the world to keep the good name of Westwood in place, and protect against imposters.
Following Blade Runner’s exemplary combination of technology, execution and vision, it is almost certain that traditional 2D adventure games will be declared illegal on Earth. Special games police - COMMON SENSE squads - will have orders to shoot, upon sight, any trespassing ‘old school’ attempts at creating immersive adventures...

Blade Runner is true to the film
Review of Blade Runner (PC) by
Screm
Advantages: Brilliant design gives the game the look and feel of the film "Blade Runner."
Disadvantages: Some aspects of the game look and gameplay lack originality
...Westwood Studios has meticulously crafted "Blade Runner" to evoke the same atmosphere that has made the film an enduring classic. Using original sets, images, sounds and music from the film, "Blade Runner" transports you into Los Angeles in the year 2019 and the world of Deckard. However, in this adventure, you portray Ray McCoy, another Blade Runner on the beat.
It is the atmosphere that is the key to the success of "Blade Runner," Part of this atmosphere is the fantastic soundtrack and theme music. A haunting synthesized flow of electrical aura radiates and swims around you. If I had one improvement, it would be that they had given the music a more dominant role in the game. Often times, it is too subtle. And while it permeates the whole structure of the adventure, I feel it should have been a lot more prevalent.
Westwood certainly has...

Is it any good... Blade Runner
Review of Blade Runner (PC) by
northernalex
Advantages: Great graphic moody sound
Disadvantages: Bit linear
...Combining the dark, atmospheric scenery, moody sound track and basic ideas of the original Blade Runner film with a totally new story line, Blade Runner the game is a 3D action adventure and detective novel rolled into one.
It is a really involving game which draws you into the dark and seedy underworld protrayed in the film. The storyline is excellent but is more linear than the game makers would have you imagine. True there is about 16 endings (I managed to find about 5) but for the rest of the game you feel as if you are actually doing no detecting. It seems that you just have to be in the right place at the right time and ask the right questions. Using the HK machine to determine if someone is a replicant is fun though.
Overall its a quite fun game to play but mebbies a little tedious in parts. Cheers Alex...

A film before its time
Review of Blade Runner (Director's Cut) (Wide Screen) by
jimmy_pop
Advantages: great film
Disadvantages: none
...harrison ford plays " rick deckard ". he searches through the city of los angeles in the 21st century looking for criminal replicants for deckard is a "blade runner ". This directors cut of the film shows unseen footage and improvment of effects and also the whole film in general. this really is a great film made even greater. it goes intot he detail of the relationship between rachel ( sean young ) and ford.
the film shows the emotional imnpact of deckards life and the life that he leads as a blade runner , the visoins that he has leaves un answered questions for deckard . " do replicants dream ??? is deckard a replicante??" all will be revealed imn this epic science fiction classic.
the film is directed by Ridley scott , he has doen a lot better then form when he started out when he directed a " hovis " bread advert in the '70ties...

Cut of the Blade
Review of Blade Runner (Director's Cut) (Wide Screen) by
dohare
Advantages: A cult Film
Disadvantages: very noir
...When this was first released the future was still being portrayed as all white walls and silvery suits. Blade Runner changed all that - the future appears to be falling apart and has a more of a 1930's feel to it than a 2030 feel. The pollution, the dirt and the constant advertising were all so far ahead of their time it is no wonder this film was a flop when it first came out. However the influence this film has had cannot be understated - it changed the way science fiction films were made.
The basic plot line concerns Deckard, the blade runner of the title trying to track down five ( or is it four...) escaped androids. Blade runners have the job of "retiring" androids. These androids, or replicants as they are known, are extremely lifelike and Decker falls for one of them and it is the combination of loving an android at the same...

True to the film : dark, stylish and thought-provoking
Review of Blade Runner (PC) by
Sputnik2000
Advantages: Blade Runner is still one of the best movies ever, great story, involving, dark atmosphere
Disadvantages: Some would say it follows the film too loosely, some of the graphics are poor
...Blade Runner, one of the most revolutionary, stylish, thought-provoking, but overlooked films in history. The film was troubled during and after production, by conflicting opinions, bad box office performance and even the ‘Blade Runner curse’ (where firms who had ads in the film began to experience business disaster after disaster). The game accurately reproduces the feel and the locations of Ridley Scott’s 1982 film – Westwood have done a great job of turning an involving movie into and involving adventure/detective game.
You play a very similar character to Deckard from the movie, a Blade Runner with a licence to kill (retire) a replicant (humanoid robot with an tendency to hurt its creators rather unpleasantly) on sight. The player visits many of the sets from the film, but also loads of new and imaginative but loyal...

The inspiration for Blade Runner
Review of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? - Philip K. Dick by
adamdavid
Advantages: A masterpiece of science fiction writing
Disadvantages: If you're expecting Blade Runner - The Book, you'll be disappointed
...Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep is the book that inspired the classic sci-fi film Blade Runner, but if you are expecting Blade Runner in paperback form then you will be disappointed. Philip K. Dick died before Blade Runner was released but had distanced himself completely from Ridley Scott's film because it was so very different from his book.
The book follows a bounty hunter, Rick Deckard, whose job it is to hunt down rogue androids that had somehow made their way back to earth from colonies on other planets. It also follows the story of John Isidore, a man who drives a van for an electric pet repair company and who is of low intelligence who encounters and helps a group of people suspected of being androids.
If you can keep thoughts of the film out of your head then you will love this book. Philip K. Dick is, in my humble...

Cool Film
Review of Blade Runner (Director's Cut) (Wide Screen) by
psybitch
Advantages: special features interactive menus
Disadvantages: none
...Now this is a cool film and even better now i have it on DVD.
Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) prowls the steel-and-microchip jungle of 21st-Century Los Angeles. He's a blade runner stalking genetically made criminal replicants. His assignment: kill them. Their crime: wanting to be human.
The story of blade runner is familiar to countless fans including myself. But few have seen it like this. Because this is director Ridley Scott's own vision of his sci-fi classic.
This new version omits Deckard's voiceover narration, develops in slightly greater detail the romance between Deckard and Rachael (Sean Young) and removes the uplifting finale.
The result is a heightened emotional impact: a great film made greater. Most intriguing of all is a newly included unicorn vision that suggests Deckard may in fact be a humanoid.
Do androids dream...

Blade Runner
Review of Blade Runner (Director's Cut) (Wide Screen) by
ros145
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...OK, I admit...the first time I watched this movie I detested it. But hey, I was 16 years old and had expected an action-packed sci-fi adventure. Blade Runner is not such a film. But I am grateful for this, for after maturing a bit and rewatching the movie a couple of times, I discovered its greatness. It is not a traditional sci-fi movie, it's a touching drama about the value of life and the importance of making the most of what you've got. One of the most important themes in the film is the question of what is more valuable - humans without emotions, or machines with? The film gives no answer - it just opens our eyes and makes us aware that we should be grateful for being alive.
Some people prefer the Director's Cut, but I like the original version better - mostly because of the wonderful end line: "I didn't know how long we had...
