It boasts 10 pages per minute but in reality it is about 8 PPM for an average text doccument. Toner cartridges are about £35 each and will last for about 4000 pages. The printer setup allows you to make 25% or 50% toner saving, this produces a lighter more grey print but is excellent for draught copies. Printing on full toner produces print outs comparable with much more expensive printers. Connects via USB or serial port and is simple to install. Paper jams are rare but easily cleared.... ...I have used Brother Laser printers in the course of work for some years now and can only say that they are great. The older models such as the Brother HL8E are fantastic work horses and just keep on going and going producing very good quality print at a very low cost per page. The newer models such as the HL-760 are also excellent however have one drawback when compared with the older models. The newer models have a toner and a seperate drum. The older models had the two things combined, yes the toner on the newer models is cheaper but when you need a drum and combine this with the toner the cost is much higher than with the combined older model. This aside I would still highly recommend these machines. They are easy to use, problems which are few and far between are easy to sort and you can contact Brother technical for advice... ...I first saw the Brother HL-1250 Laser Printer at Office World. (I know many people do not like this shop, but I found the staff very helpful on the day I visited). Back to the printer. ...I purchased a brother HL-5150D a year or so ago and have been very happy with it. It was bought to replace an old epson inkjet and the quality of the printouts it produces are much sharper and crisper than an inkjet could ever manage. It can also print at a much higher speed. I would say the the claimed 20ppm is not all what it appears. This is if only 5% of the total surface is printed and you happen to be printing envelopes. However it can still print very quickly. I would say a more realistic estimate for printing A4 decomuents is around 12ppm or about 5 is duplexing. I have said that it is however slightly noisey. This is only when in operation and it is very quiet while not in use. It even powers down after a few minutes to save electricity. Also Brother claim their toner cartridges can do 1,500 sheets, I think they are wrong. I've gotten through 1.5boxes of paper (3700ish sheets) on the free toner that came with it. Its basic specs are; *Max. Print Speed - 20pages per minute *Max. Print Resolution - 2400x600dpi *Interface - Parallel or USB *Memory - 8MB *And a little single sheet feeder which I have never used, but it looks like it works. This is a great product for small offices or homes and will cope very well with all print jobs sent to it. To be honest it just doesn't muck about. ...Does anyone really need a laser printer for home use? For the price of this one, there is no reason not to. I have had the Brother 1240 since last fall. I am very pleased with its performance and reliability. The print quality as other reviewers have noted is excellent. The speed is nice as well, especially when one is used to ink-jet printers. I leave the printer on and let it go to "sleep" so whenever I need to print, it only takes a minute for warm-up then out comes the print job. In regards to economy, Brother states that the toner cartridge is good for 3000 pages at 5% coverage (average). If one calculates the per page cost of printing, the laser is by far the more economical choice versus ink-jet. The 1240 comes with a toner cartridge, and I have yet to use it up despite extensive use. The printer is definitely a home product... Read review

...of hundred sheets a day. The software is on CD and has tone saver feature, and a very nifty interface that allows you to print one, two, four or eight pages of A4 on each sheet. Very handy if you want a file copy of a two page letter! I was pleasantly surprised to find a printer cable (Parallel) supplied in the box, a luxury that many manufacturers do not offer, even on more expensive machines. Toner cartridges are 3000 sheet capacity at about 5% coverage and cost around £35 from DABS. If you need top quality laser printing at true 1200 x1200 and do not want to spend a fortune, this is the printer for you. ...What can I say, I bought this printer as an impulse buy. I only paid £45 for it brand new from a well known stationery shop. It has replaced a mono-laser printer bought second hand. To get a copier/scanner/printer for £45 is good, but one that faxes as well. It did as was claimed on the box, I just plugged it in, connected it to my laptop and within minutes the drivers were installed and it was ready for use. I was a bit dubious about the fax, but it works fine both to send and receive. Replacement cartridges are only £35 for a set for genuine brother, and I have sourced non-genuine for £14 for the set. The cartridges can also be refilled. All in all, this is one excellent package.... Read review

...I have had this printer for over 2 years now and have had no problems with it since the day of purchase. I use my printer to mainly print out word documents, emails and work for university. --Looks/Size-- Compared to newer laser printers the Brother HL 1430 looks boring and is also quite bulky. However what it lacks in looks it certainly makes up for in quality and reliability. Dimensions: 36x23.5cm Weight: 9.2Kg --Laser Vs Inkjet-- I had two inkjet printers before purchasing my first laser printer. For the sort of documents I print I find a laser printer much faster, more reliable and also of a higher quality. Over the last 2 years this printer has proven to be cheaper than my other injet printers as the ink cartridges dried out and were expensive to replace.
