Are you wild
Review of Where the Wild Things Are - Maurice Sendak by
mumsymary
Advantages: great for children encorages reading fun
Disadvantages: none
...Where the wild things are. Story and pictures by Maurice Sendex.
I read this to my class today the children loved it and thought I would tell you about this book,
First i will give you the details then tell you the storyplot
This book published by picture lions Written by Maurice Sendak in 1963 I was surprised to see how long Ago it was published as it has not date at all .
This book won a Caldecott medal for the most distinguished picture book of the year 1964.
The Story is written in easy to read fairly large print.It is suitable for children aged between 4 and 8
The story is about Max who” one night wore his wolf suit and made mischief” (remind you of anyone?) you see a picture of him hanging his teddy and chasing the dog. His mother calls him “wild thing” and Max said “ I’ll eat you up! so he was sent to bed” without anything...

It's about time
Review of Runnin' Wild - Airbourne by
the_cloverleaf
Advantages: Blues-rock guitar orientated band more than hold their own in modern times.
Disadvantages: I truly can't fault this album
...Whether you like old music or new music, rock or dance, i challenge you to find flaw with this album.
The first blues-rock band in i don't know how long to have been given real chance to compete in the saturated with (more often than not) rubbish market.
Although still a relatively cult following, given the air time and promotion it deserves, "Runnin' Wild" would surely become a hit.
Who could not love the video for the title track "Runnin' Wild" featuring Lemmy from Motorhead - only adding to the charm of the track itself.
As with any album there are stronger and weaker tracks but in this case, the gap in between is minimal and even the weaker tracks put many modern day chart "singles" to shame.
The only problem... if you can call it that, is that there has been seemingly no attempt to distance the band from their obvious...

The wild Thornberries
Review of The Wild Thornberrys by
tim.palmer
Advantages: Fantastic animation
Disadvantages: Running low on original ideas for story lines
...Elisa Thornberry is no normal girl. She has the ability to talk to animals which proves very usefull as all of her family travel the world to film a nature show. Her dad Nigal Thornberry hosts it and her mum, Mary-Anne Thornberry films it. Debby is her sister. She is constantly annoyed with travelling and not having the ability to go shopping. On there journeys Elisa has picked up an ape called Darwin. The family also found a wild boy called donny who talks a load of gibberish. The animation is really good especially on the animals. For a cartoon they look so reallistic. It is really funny to watch especially as there vehicle can go on the river, up a mountain, underwater etc. You name it they've got it. Elisa often has to basrgain with animals to get them to stay in front of the camera, but speaking to animals is kept a secret.

Living on the Wild side
Review of Wild Hogs (DVD) by
S3Matt
Advantages: Entertaining, Plenty of action and laughs
Disadvantages: None
...Wild Hogs film only review.
The film wild hogs is a fairly new release into the cinema's that I recently watched and here is my review on it.
The film contains some well known actors, Such as Tim Allen, John Travolta and Martin Lawrence they are 3 of the four main characters with the fourth being played by William H Macy who is less well known.
The Film revolves around these four middle aged men who are weekend bikers and they meet up every week at a bar to have a few drinks and a ride on there bikes, they call themselves the Wild Hogs. All of them have some issue in there life that they are not happy with and its plaguing there lives. The character played by Tim Allen is a middle aged Dentist who has a medical condition forcing him to eat healthy foods only and also his son has no respect for him and thinks he is boring. John...

An earnest farce
Review of The Importance of Being Earnest - Oscar Wilde by
Robert_Chilton
Advantages: Witty dialogue, funny farce
Disadvantages: None
...“The Importance of being Earnest” is perhaps the best known of Oscar Wilde’s plays and most performed. The play is terrifically easy to read, full of sharp, witty dialogue that flows easily between the characters.
The play is basically a farce. As anyone who has read any of previous reviews will know, farce is my favored genre. The story is based around a fictional man called Ernest Worthing. He has been invented by the character Jack Worthing who the pseudonym when he is town to allow him to act recklessly without fear of recrimination. Jack is in love with and wants to marry Gwendolen Fairfax. But first he needs the permission of her aunt, Lady Bracknell. Here the problems start, Lady Bracknell diasapproves of Jack because he doesn’t know who his parents are having been found abandoned in a handbag on Euston station. He was found...

Found in a handbag.
Review of The Importance of Being Earnest - Oscar Wilde by
Azurel
Advantages: Funny.
Disadvantages: Prehaps not to everyones taste.
...The play is a satire on 19th century Mayfair society and as the title suggests the play is about the importance of being called Ernest.
I have the penguin popular classics version of the book, which has a brief history of Oscar Wilde, his life and works. Wilde quarrelled with Marquess of Queensberry and this led to Wilde being imprisoned for two years from 1894 to 1896 for homosexual offences. He was born in 1854 and died in exile in France in 1900.
The play centres around the exploits of Algernon Moncrieff and John Worthing and their prospective fiancés Gwendolen Fairfax and Cecily Cardew. Throw in a governess (Miss Prism), an aunt (Lady Bracknel), butler, manservant and a reverend and you have the recipe for one of the funniest plays ever.
John and Algernon have both told their fiancés they are called Ernest, and this is almost...

A very silly plot
Review of The Importance of Being Ernest - Oscar Wilde by
Telute
Advantages: Very Funny very fast
Disadvantages: A little to victorian in places
...The Importance of being Ernest boasts one of the silliest plots I have ever heard of. Basically it involves two men pretendig to be other people called Ernest in order to woe the women they love. There are other complications such as the matter of one of them oly being a foundling etc, but in the main that's it.
Luckily Oscar Wilde is a genius and his play is full of extremly funny lines and puns. The situation is victorian and so some of the humour relise on a basic knowledge of victorian social convention but this doesn't detract from the play.
The characters are all very convincing, and Wilde has a perfect grasp of conversation that makes many of the lines seem unscripted or simply overheard snatches of converstaion. The play has a fast pace as the plot begins to overwhelm the two men at its centre and despite early appearences...

How Wild Are You?
Review of Where the Wild Things Are - Maurice Sendak by
tange
Advantages: Enduring tale of fun with wonderful illustrations.
Disadvantages: Reminds me I'm getting older!
..."The wild things roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws."
******************************************
While at work today a young man came to the enquiry desk in the Children's Library and asked if I could help him locate a story he had enjoyed as a child. He said it had a young boy in a wolf costume, some rather wild looking monsters and an adventure through forests in it.
Usually from a vague description it is impossible to find things, but I knew exactly the book he meant because, funnily enough, children are STILL reading this story. Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak is as readable today as when it was first published ~ and that was way, way back in 1963!
~~~THE PLOT.
The story is about a little boy called Max who is sent to bed...
The Wild Road
Review of The Wild Road (Dirk & Steele) - Marjorie Liu by
Lightengale
Advantages: Amazing story, incredible characters
Disadvantages: Not to be read as a standalone, you won't get the full understanding.
...Marjorie Liu is just one of the best young talents around and she just gets better with every book! The Wild Road is the latest installment in the Dirk and Steele series which began incredibly well with Tiger Eye. The Wild Road is about a Gargoyle names Lannes (his brother and his plight have been covered in an earlier anthology Dark Dreamers). Lannes comes upon a woman with no name and no memory of what she has done or who she is, depsite being covered in blood with a gun in her hand.
The two of them come together to figure out what the heck is going on with the woman and in the mean time, things heat up,
The relationship between these two is just amazing, Lannes is such an intense man, controlled because he has to be and gentle because he wants to be. He feels such empathy with the woman and the chemistry they have is inexplicable...
