CD Burner Paradise for 84 Pounds
Review of Samsung CD-RW SW-408 by
john.sw
Advantages: Cheap, fast, reliable, good software
Disadvantages: No fancy box to throw away
...Fancy a CD-RW drive? Don’t waste your money on a £140 model; there is one for £84 that will do everything you need.
My first CD-RW burner cost over £200 and had the amazing record speed of 2x. The old Memorex still works well, but I wanted a new burner for a different desktop PC and did not want to spend a lot.
The Samsung SW-408 from redstore.com doesn’t come in a fancy box (who likes paying extra for the box anyway?) but is supplied with a good instruction book, a spare drive to audio cable and a CD with all the software you need to be up and running in minutes. It records a 8x in both CDR and CD-RW mode and reads at 32x.
For £84 you get a reliable burner with OPC for consistent recording on a disc with dust or fingerprints. It also supports variable packet CD-R, variable and fixed packet which means that you...

LG GCE 8160B CD burner
Review of LG GCE 8160B by
ilaskey
Advantages: value for money, works well, good for backups
Disadvantages: Not the fastest on the block
...There are some very fast CD burners on the market although they're mainly being overtaken by DVD burners which aren't much more expensive these days. The LG GCE-8160B is a couple of years old now and used to sell at PC World for £69 but can be picked up cheaply on eBay these days.
The box contains the bare drive which sports 16x CD-R writing, 10x CD-RW writing and 40x reading as well as all the usual IDE cables, screws and sound card leads. The supplied software is Roxio CD Creator version 5 which is the latest version although not the full 'Platinum' style. You can still burn almost any type of CD although some of the more esoteric features such as vinyl restoration, and Video-CD creation are missing. You can of course use 3rd party software or upgrade to the full version of CD Creator 5 Platinum. A bonus is a good pair of manuals...

mp3 cd player
Review of Sony CD / MP3 player by
Cid-zx
Advantages: good battery life
Disadvantages: ?????
...Transform Acoustic Coding’ … obviously).
All the software required to convert files to this format comes on a CD with the discman and using it Sony claim you can get around 430 tracks on one standard CD. Well, we’ll see about that. To create a cd you will need a windows PC, quite a bit of hard disk space, a cd writer and either a CDR or CDRW disc. The software is called SonicStage Simple Burner and once installed on your PC it’s quite a simple process to create your disc of atrac files.
The screen is split into two windows. The left-hand window is used to select tracks from either an audio cd or existing mp3s. If you are connected to the internet the title and artist information is available via Gracenote CDDB (free registration is required when you first run the software). When you find a track you want to include select it and click add...

The best CD Burner
Review of Nero Burning ROM 5.5 Licence by
bec84
Advantages: Easy to use, it actually works!!
Disadvantages: none
...well, i have used a lot of CD burners, and all of them copy my music into data files, so that means when i go and play the CD in a CD player, nothing happens. Nero is so easy to work, really user friendly.
You can also label your tracks, so if you have windows media player then while the copied cd is playing, it tells you the name of the cd, and what each track is labelled as.
when i used this, and the cd i burned actually played, i was so over the moon. i would recommend this program to anybody. so if you are looking for cd burner, then nero is the one for you. i have only used version 5, but no doubt they are all just as good!...

CD Burner: the Best Out There
Review of Yamaha - Yamaha by
Manx
Advantages: It is good. Fast. Solid.
Disadvantages: It requires a hardware install.
...and burn your data on to a CD… but then, that would be true no matter which CD burner you purchased and the Yamaha has a number of speed selections for you to pick from.
Perhaps the best summary I can give is this: My Yamaha CRW8823S-VK was better, faster and cheaper than the CD burner my friend bought. Success!...

The CD Package For Those With Burning Ambition
Review of Easy CD Creator Platinum 5.0 Complete package by
BNibbles
Advantages: Huge array of built-in facilities
Disadvantages: Could be overkill if you only want to make copies.
...for convenience. This way, I can call up the same disk content next month and make a new back-up copy.
c) Data DVD Project – More or less as above but with infinitely greater disk capacity. Pity I haven’t got a DVD “burner”!
d) CD Copy – there it goes again!
3. PHOTO OR VIDEO CD
To be honest, I haven’t had a lot of use for this kind of thing, but here goes.
a) Photo Album – This allows you to transfer digital photo formats to a CD-R complete with the means for creating logical “Albums” plus the ability to run them as slide shows. This, in the case on Windows XP is slightly superfluous since the operating system itself can do this direct from Windows Explorer.
b) Video Postcard – This enables you to assemble video clips (mpeg files, avi files, what have you) to CD-R. So what you might think, anyone can copy files to a CD...

Eurohike Adventure Cookset with Burner
Review of Eurohike Adventure Cookset with Burner by
PaulineLees
Advantages: Small, Compact, Lightweight, Affordable.
Disadvantages: Get's a bit hot when cooking.
...be to touch.
The Adventure Cookset can be purchased with or without the burner. With the burner the set costs £19.99, without it costs £14.99. Both available through millets at these prices. Which I think is a bargain! If you want to use the cookset as a means of cooking, you definitely need to purchase the set with the burner. However if you are looking to purchase extra cookware for your camping holidays and want it cheaply then the set without the burner is a cheap way of doing this.
Once all of the pots and pans have been removed from themselves, the set fits together very easily. The base with the air holes in is placed on the floor. This has a large diameter so gives a stable surface on which to cook. The windsheild then slots on to this to protect the burner from the wind. The burner itself sits in the centre of the base. Methylated...
