...Rumours abound that the club are soon to leave the legendary home, white hart lane. This will do nothing but anger the loyal supporters more, for they have a had to endure a terrible season away from home this year. What is more, the sugar affair is likely to cast a shadow over 2000-2001 season and will serve to infuriate the traditional supporters. Still, the cup remains and of course, the year ends in 2001 which should bode well for the team. Let us see if they can manage the oversome the next team in the quarters of the FA cup. Advantages: Invaluable for anyone owning or restoring a historic Lotus car. Excellent quarterly magazine. Modest subscription.
Disadvantages: Not enough colour in magazine. Few events for overseas members.

...I first joined the club in 1999 and was impressed by the high standard of the club's magazine "Historic Lotus". The club is a "must" for anyone with a historic Lotus car, particularly if it needs to be restored, as there is a wealth of experience amongst the members about who to go to for help, parts, materials and know-how, It is also a rewarding source of information on the early days of the Lotus company, and many of the pioneers are members of the club and contribute their memory of events. The club does not organise its own competitive events, but being affiliated to the Motor Sports Asoociation (MSA) it is often invited to track days and other events. Advantages: Many good teams are out of the competition
Disadvantages: Arsenal and Liverppol still remain in the cup

...This weekend as Spurs defeated Stockport 4-0 it suddenly struck me that they could go all the way in this season's FA Cup as many of the top clubs have been put out of the competition. They have now reached the quarter final stages of the competition with wins over Leyton Orient(1-0), Charlton Atheletic (4-2), and Stockport County. The only other major teams that are left in the tournament are Liverpool(the bookies favourites), Arsenal, Leicester and West Ham who Spurs meet in the quarter finals. If Spurs get past the hammers, they have already beaten Liverpool this season, and they are capable of beating Leicester and Arsenal. However for the average traveller in London the secret of staying at Club Quarters for a good price (whether the St. Paul's or Gracechurch versions) is normally to avoid weekdays when the price shoots up, driven by the business customers or members. Although many tourists flock to the hotels in the West End and the Kensington to Earl's Court area, there is a lot to be said for the City as a tourist location. ...I think that Leicester City will do well this year. I think Peter Taylor will do well as manager and he has made some astute signings in the transfer market. I am particularly happy with the signings of Gary Rowett and Callum Davidson as I think these players will fill holes in Leicester's defence. I predict that Leicester will finish at least sixth in the championship, and will win either the FA Cup or the Worthington Cup. I also predict that they will reach the quarter finals of the UEFA Cup. Neil Lennon is annoying me though. He should stop talking to the press and see out the lucrative contract that he has signed. If he goes to another club, he will not do as well as he has done at Leicester.... Read review

...Birmingham is the second city of England, but in many circles has a bad reputation which is largely undeserved. Facing the dubious honour of being neither North nor South but truly Midlands territory, the city centre has been dramatically improved in the recent era. For a start, there are the magnificent facilities such as the international convention centre (ICC) and the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) a little way out of town. Also, there is a marvellous jewellery quarter in Hockley, on the way to Smethwick when on the way out of the town centre, which is worth an afternoon of anyone’s shopping time. Nightlife is famous and varied, from trendy clubs like Bakers and the Steering Wheel worth a look if you are on the look for a wild night out, to classy restaurant, hotels and brasseries which can be found on Broad Street.... Advantages: Breath-taking photography, kicking soundtrack and brilliant plot twist

..."Any Given Sunday" is Oliver Stone's dipiction of the hard-hitting world of american football starring Al Pacino, Cameron Diaz, James Woods, Jamie Foxx and Dennis Quaid, just to name a few of the all-star cast. The film follows the fortunes of the Miami Sharks through the last few months of a very tough season. After losing their star quarter-back Jack "cap" Rooney (Quaid) and also second choice quarter-back in the same game, coach Tony D'Amato entrusts the success of the team in rookie Willy Beamen (Foxx). After a less than perfect start, Beamen begins to shine, and is soon catapulted into mega-stardom being hailed as the best quarter-back in the game. Advantages: good atmosphere
Disadvantages: really old stand down one length

...Oakwell stadium the home of Barnsley FC now has a capacity of around twenty two thousand and is a much improved venue . Five years ago Oakwell was a joke frankly. Old toilets , old stands , no covering for the away end and just basically a ground you didn't want to visit. Barnsley are addressing this to be fair and although the club have little financial clout the ground has been three quarters modernised. I say three quarters because they still have one nineteen fifties style stand and this happens to be where the dressing rooms are. The toilets here in this part of the ground are almost medieval and the facilities generally along this side of the ground are very poor. I guess it's a money thing but eventually the club will have a complete stand on this side and finish the job off .The stand still has a wooden floor and you can guess... Read review

...Come out of Batley town centre and you immediately hit Batley's famous 'Golden Mile'. for around a mile and a half along a straight line along Hick Lane and Bradford Road between Batley and Dewsbury there are more pubs, clubs, restaurants and take-aways than can be seen in a lot of cities. At the heart of it all is the Frontier nightclub. It's not your 'Cream' or 'Ministry' style of club, it's more sort of cheesy disco. The Frontier holds around 2'000 people and is usually around three-quarters full. It owes a lot of it's popularity to the fact that in the late60's and 70's (as Batley Variety Club) it played host to big names such as Bee Gees, Cliff Richard, Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones and other big names of the time. These days (along with it's own pub - The Crystal Room), you can find emntertainment there every night... Read review

.... This can be as I have just said or you can earn them on Travel. Petrol, Tesco Visa, Baby club or tescos insurances. When you have 150 or more points in a quarter of a year they send you clubcard vouchers with a statement telling you your balance. You can even go on www.tesco.com and see how many points you have. You can save your vouchers for club deals. This will allow you on different trips very cheaply. You can use them for places like Alton Towers or even a trip to France. Dont forget Tescos has stores in France and yes you can use your club card there. It does mount up quickly and you at least get something back for all the money you spend.... Read review
