Ideal Shore reel.
Review of Daiwa Emcast Plus Big Pit Reel by
seaweed78
Advantages: Good casting distance, high speed retrieval, comfortable handle, good power
Disadvantages: Outer finishing seems not lasting too long.
...I own a 6000 series. Yes, it is quite big but actually it weigh the same as the 5500 series, and with added line capacity and more recovery per handle turn, it was an easy decision for me. Before this reel, my collection were mostly on 4000 series sort of size and capacity consist of few good name (shimano, daiwa, abu garcia). That was before I started shore fishing. A few thing that I learned that lead me on buying this particular reel were:
1. Shallow pit reel can't get the casting distance to beat the wave break. Bigger diameter released line smoother and better, hence greater distance.
2. Small handle and small handle turn make me feel like my reel is 'vulnerable' . With relatively smaller gearing relative to the size, it does reduce the lifespan.
3. I need big and comfortable handle grip for repeated casting and retrieving.

Daiwa Supercast - Thoroughbred amongst donkeys
Review of Daiwa supercast beach rod by
Twistedpro
Advantages: Easy casting, excellent bite detection, robust,
Disadvantages: Difficult to load the power version during cast for massive casts
...The Daiwa Supercast beach rod is made in the UK.
It has a powerful butt construction and a lightening quick recovery. It comes in multiple versions. The rod has been quoted by sea angler as "destined for classic status amongst UK sea anglers".
Features
- Exclusive individual design
- High grade carbon butt
- Blended tip
- Fuji 'shock ring' Aluminium Oxide guides
- Superb balance and handling
- Cross textured shrink grips
- Daiwa stainless steel coasters
The daiwa supercast is an excellent rod, i have been using the STS13PM for all my beach fishing. It is capable of casting 6oz and mackeral flapper with ease. The STS13PM is rated at 4-8oz and is ideal for areas with a strong tide.
The bite detection is also very good, on the STS13PM it has a stiffer tip which allows more sensitive bite detection in flood tides. However...

These reels are the best
Review of Shimano Baitrunners by
jasper31
Advantages: Everything. These reels are the dogs bits.
Disadvantages: Maybe the fact that when the freespool is on you have to turn the reel handle a full 1/2 a turn to engage the clutch. Can be a bit daunting when you first start using the reel and your used to picking up the rod and striking before reeling in.
...After over 25 years of fishing and in that time i have swapped many reels and am always looking for a better deal. Anything that comes on the market that makes fishing easier is always worth a look.
The shimano baitrunner is truely the bees knees when it comes to carp fishing, and at a very resonably price. i know the daiwa emblem's are good but for quality and price you can't beat the Shimano.
The first thing that strikes you about the reels is he quality. Just looking at one and you can see that it has been made with hard fighting fish in mind. Which ever one you decide on and there are a few. you will not be dissappointed. You get all the lingo with it like line lay, ball bearings, anti-reverse gearing, all is a bit much for an average angler.
So in my opion the ease in which these reels can be used is great. i first...

The Shakespeare Ganza rear-drag reel reviewed
Review of Shakespeare Ganza rear-drag reel (2403) by
duck1979
Advantages: 2 spools, 2 handles, looks good
Disadvantages: nothing major
...I got this reel for Christmas a couple of years ago from my late Mum's older sister's family (I actually asked for the Potenza, but the local tackle shop was out of them... so got this newer Ganza instead).
It's available in in 5 different sizes for various types of fishing:
2403/030 - Holds 170m of 4lb Line
2403/035 - Holds 210m of 3lb Line
2403/040 - Holds 200m of 8lb line
2403/045 - Holds 230m of 10lb line
2403/050 - Holds 250m of 15lb line
I guess the 030 version is for general coarse fishing...... Roach / Rudd / Perch / small Tench, etc.
The 035 version is almost certainly for budding Bob Nudds & Alan Scotthorne's, as it's the only one in the range supplied with 2x Shallow Aluminium Match spools.
The 040 version is the one I've got, I reckon that it's best use is for Chub, Barbel & Larger Tench + Carp in low...

Reel Big Fish - Makes You Happy
Review of We're Not Happy 'Til You're Not happy [PA] - Reel Big Fish by
cambria83
Advantages: Catchy, Upbeat and happy
Disadvantages: Not their best album
...Ever since Reel Big Fish released "Favorite Noise" I think the question on everybody's lips has been "Will Their Next Album Be Their Last?". "We're Not Happy 'Till You're Not Happy" certainly hasn't answered the question but has certainly made it a bigger issue.
Reel Big Fish always seem to release an album just in time for my summer walks to work and there's nothing I like better than listening to their upbeat happy sound on my relaxing sunshine stroll. This album starts things off no differently with "The Fire" and as soon as I pressed play on my Ipod, a couple of years ago Summer instantly arrived in England!
Yes Reel Big Fish are back, in my opinion with some of the best material they have released in a while and have some extremely clear messages to portray within. With Song titles such as "Don't Start A Band", "Goodbye...

Sreaming Reels
Review of Screaming Reels by
breezer
Advantages: Info on lots of places.
Disadvantages: May be a little out of date.
...Screaming Reels, the book.
This book was a spin off from the channel 4 fishing programme called screaming reels, although I thought the programme was a bit naff, this book has been invaluable.
It was produced with that well know angling publication Angling Times, which I’m sure any fisherman will have heard about, and retailed at the price of £3.99 in paperback form.
The book starts off by giving you a couple of pages on the making of screaming reels, very nice for starters, but then we get to the real purpose of this book. Which is the description of 150 of Britains best day ticket waters.
The book does this by dividing the country into five areas, London & the South, North West, West Midlands, Central & East Midlands and Yorkshire & North East.
In each area you then have the individual fisheries, each fishery included...

I Jigged and I Reeled, sometimes both at once!
Review of Jigs & Reels - Joanne Harris by
mollbird
Advantages: Ecclectic collection, well balanced and very imaginative.
Disadvantages: Some of the characters would warrant much longer stories.
...On a whim I saw the film Chocolat and was aware at the time that it was based on a book by Joanne Harris. I'd never really been tempted by Harris' books because for some reason I was under the impression that they were a bit mumsy. Having seen the film and been struck by the originality, warmth and kind of sophisticated sense of fun of the story, I thought it was about time I reconsidered reading some of Harris' work.
Now, I had the joy of working as a Christmas temp at Waterstones a few months back and in the quiet spells was able to read the blurb on the back of books. Jigs & Reels caught my eye so I had a read. I had already heard of the book but wasn't aware that it was a collection of short stories, but what better way to acquaint myself with a writer that to read several of their ideas in one book! So this little gem...

Don't be blue... watch Reel Big Fish Live!
Review of Reel Big Fish - Live At The House Of Blues DVD by
Luvlylana
Advantages: You can watch it again and again and notice something different each time
Disadvantages: It can never be the same as being at the venue
...Reel Big Fish Live at the House of Blues is a music DVD recorded in 2003, and is one of a series of "The Show Must Go Off" DVDs produced by Kung Fu Records.
Although the concert begins with a few hiccups, it soon becomes clear why the band have such a devout following of "skankers". You really get a feel for the energy and buzz of the audience they are playing to, and you feel as though the band actually enjoy each other's company as well as the recognition they get for their music.
In my opinion, the DVD is 105 minutes too short, and although watching a DVD of a gig would never be the same as attending it for real, I know that each time I watch it I will notice something new, and take away some of the infectious happiness that they omit every minute that they grace the stage.
This DVD is highly recommended to all Reel Big Fish...

Up the pole
Review of Daiwa Matchlite by
breezer
Advantages: Strength, quality, price.
Disadvantages: Only one extra top two sections supplied with it.
...A few years back I used to fish in my local angling club matches, and although these matches were just fun events with club trophy’s given out at the end of the season, there were also a few pennies to be won each week. It soon became clear, that to get in the money you had to be able to fish with a pole as a lot of the venues we fished were suited to this kind of fishing.
So off I went to my local tackle shop in search of a pole, having used my local tackle shop for all my fishing life; they knew me as a regular customer. This helped a great deal, as they knew the sort of venues I fished, and they recommended that I buy the Team Daiwa Matchlite.
This pole is 11 metres long, and weighs 755grms. It has 9 sections and the top 2 are telescopic, it is supplied with a spare top 2 sections.
At the time this was a Very light pole...

Whose Line Is It Anyway?
Review of Korda State Of The Art Underwater Carp Fishing Part 2 by
snake_plissken
Advantages: Fish's eye view of your tackle
Disadvantages: You might sell your equipment
...line
The Quicksilver is invisible over gravel and sandy bottoms and using the weight of the mono it stays very close to the bottom for a good distance.
Whiplash didn't have a very good bait presentation and was clearly visible within a few feet of the rig. So this is not a very good product.
One thing that you should do when using braid lines is to re-colour them with a marker pen when they fade. Lighter coloured braids are highly visible and tend to spook more fish, so if you want to keep on catching carp colour your braid.
