Datawrite Titanium: Inexpensive but unreliable
Review of Datawrite DVD-R by
Morgoth
Advantages: cheap, available in many local computer shops
Disadvantages: unreliable, not compatible with all DVD writers, lots of read errors and glitches
...First, I will qualify that I have only had personal experience of using Datawrite 'Titanium' 8x DVD-R, and also, that a lot of the problems that people can have with different DVD-R media are actually down to difference in DVD writer compatibility, as much as they are differences in actual disc or brand quality. The existence of positive reviews of this media on this site alone suggests that a certain amount of variation between discs and DVD writers is possible.
But still, I cannot at all recommend using Datawrite Titanium brand DVD-Rs for sensitive data, for burning video, or even really for general use. I have experienced too many problems with using them, with three different DVD writers and PCs. I especially do not recommend using these discs with an LG or Liteon writer.
They are not compatible at all with some drives, and even...

LG 4166B: a good all-round, reliable drive
Review of LG GSA 4166B Super-Multi by
Morgoth
Advantages: reliable, fast, good quality, not-too-picky, handles all formats
Disadvantages: limited to 8x reading from some formats, missing some 'expert' features eg cannot do disc quality scans or report C2 errors
...). So it's important (but difficult) to have a reliable drive that will produce copies of your data without errors.
On the whole I am very satisfied with the LG 4166B. It burns quickly, it's not nearly as picky as the Sony writer about the discs I use in it, it produces less errors, and generally, the burns are very good quality - without read errors and quick to read from. It burns quickly and mostly at the maximum speed for the disc, burning a 16x DVD+ or - R in just under 6 minutes.
I find that it writes DVD+Rs slightly better than it does DVD-R, although this could also be due to media differences.
I have found it to be compatible with all the discs tried in it (Datawrite titanium, Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Tuffdisc DVD-RW, Sony, Philips) in the sense that it could write to them. The Tuffdisc DVD-RWs I tried in it were also no problem...

Forged in the fires of hell
Review of Dabsvalue DVD-R 4.7 GB 8x by
jaybay32
Advantages: Cheap, scratch proof
Disadvantages: Mixed grade media
...find discs from several manufacturers, this does not help at all with consistency when burning. They are fine for storing data and photo's etc but if one wants a good quality discs for burning DVD-R movies on for playback on a standalone DVD player, you best avoid them.
I use a Pineer 110D burner with the latest firmware and cannot get a 8x disc burning faster than 8x, yet a Datawrite Titanium 8x DVD-R disc will burn at 12x, what does that say ?
In essence, an average disc with dubious clever marketing...

DataWrite - Cheap and Nasty or Just Good Value
Review of Datawrite DVD-R by
sandemp
Advantages: Cheaper than competition, large range with prices to suit all pockets.
Disadvantages: For me none, but there is some brand snobbery
...Before I start this review, I'm going to make it clear, that it only an account of my experience with various DVD-R discs in the Datawrite line. It will therefore not include any of their range that I do not have personal experience of (although I will be supplying a link where you can get information about these). However, I have used several of their DVD-R along with DVD-RW and their sister label Datasafe DVD-RAM.
The Company
********************
Maybe we should start with the company itself.
Datawrite DVDs are part of a range distributed by Datasafe media, who claim to be largest re-distributor of DVD media in the UK. Notice, that I said re-distributor, this means that they buy in discs from a range of companies and then badge them as their own brand. This means as they offer a great variety in quality levels and dye types, you...

Backup Your Data Safley And Cheaply
Review of Datawrite DVD-RW by
free_peace_sweet
Advantages: Cheap & Very Reliable
Disadvantages: Only 2x Speed
...These are one of the cheapest DVD-RW brands available. I bought my first pack about a year and a half ago and haven't looked back.
The Company Datawrite is now becoming one of the most widely recognised and purchased brands in the field of optical media storage. Since its inception in 1992, Datawrite has managed to produce premium quality, affordable media. They are manufactured by Datasafe Media.
The Disc are DVD-RW suitable for anyone who wants to temporay store data on. RW means ReWritable allowing you to erase the contents of the disc and fill again with new.
Firstly I use a lot of DVD-RW discs. So I needed a disc I could rely on to store my data safely, to have good read/write ability with multiple burners and players and be light on my pocket. I think I have definitely found this with Datawrite DVD-RW discs.
They are 4.7 GB...

Vodafone
Review of Vodafone by
Howitza
Advantages: Small and easy to carry
Disadvantages: Expensive
...Not bad - but not good. If anything the MN 2 is too small - but for features and service you cannot complain. It retails at £60 from Argos for example and even comes with extra free calls - £10. The phone is easy to use and comes with a dead handy charger. Very useful for when the battery gets low on power. It has a veritable raft of ring tones and volumes and comes in different colours to boot - grey, silver, platinum, titanium and a limited edition aluminium coloured case - slightly lighter than the titanium to the concerning purchaser....

One of the better DVD recorders
Review of JVC DR-M1 by
colin99
Advantages: Excellent pictures, supports DVD-Ram, good with Sky
Disadvantages: Does not write DVD+R/RW, no CD-Text. JVC's poor reputation.
..., the editing facilities, along with a built-in library database, will make you more than happy.
The first (very cheap) no-branded DVD-R single-write disk I tried, looked like it had recorded OK but then refused to play on anything. A different, equally cheap DVD-R was fine. I settled on "Datawrite Red V3" DVD-R disks at 22p each from www.svp.co.uk which work well, but are no longer available. Try the Datawrite Titanium 16X DVD-R from the same supplier, they seem very good. For re-writables I used Datawrite DVD-RW disks, the same ones I used on my old Pioneer "104" DVD writer installed in my PC, and these worked well. However the TDK Scratchproof DVD-RW from www.svp.co.uk are simply tops, I've got a heap of these and use them like video tapes for everyday recording.
My first use of a DVD-Ram disk, a £2 "SmartBuy" gave mixed results; whilst...

take your files on a voyage
Review of Datawrite Voyager USB Pen Drive USB flash drive - 2 GB by
lynseyb
Advantages: cheap and very strong.
Disadvantages: none to mention.
...I needed a flash drive to enable me to carry files around with me as i do not have a laptop at the minute. i travel between my own house and my mums an a daily basis and we both have pc`s but on hers i had no access to my files some of which were important for my work or for building my website.
i had very little idea about flashdrives so when i started looking around for one i was at a little bit of a loss as to which to choose.
To be honest i chose this one purely because it was a name i had heard of through using datawrite dvd`s and cd`s.
It has however turned out to be a very good choice, a friend of mine bought a different type flashdrive a few days after me and hers has already broke. It seems that these things are prone to breaking, hers snapped just below the usb plug part where it plugs into your pc and its not the only one...

LG GDR 8163B I love it
Review of LG GDR 8163B by
techman1862
Advantages: Brilliant and works with all disks i have used so far
Disadvantages: none really
...This LG GDR 8163B is the latest DVD-RW drive from LG and as per usual is Brillaint to use.
This is dual layer drive....8.5GB potential
Burns CDr's at 40x about 2 min 32 secs @600mb on an 80min/ 700meg cdr. Also does CDRW
DVD-r are a breese and the drive is very fast and quite.
DVD+r little slower but works fine with all mainstream disks.
DVD-Ram too but the disks a bit expensive so farfor me to try.
DVD-RW disks are a breese again using Nero newest version and back-up data is straight forward.
Have used Datawrite Grey 8x DVD-R and INFINITI 16x Green DVD-R no probs. But would suggest spending a little moer on good disks.
8XDVD-r time is about 7 mins for 4gb data and 7min 50 secs for DVD files.
Overall good machine and well worth the current cost of £35-£32....

Amazing Dual Layer Multi-Format DVD Recorder
Review of NEC DVD ND3500A by
thevicar
Advantages: Extremely fast, Dual Layer, multi formats
Disadvantages: Needs firmware upgrade for some DL discs
...I have used a NEC 1100, then a NEC 1300, and now have the NEC 3500, and have found them all to offer excellent value for money and good reliability.
I paid only £41 at www.ebuyer.co.uk and have found the drive to burn to all formats (plus and minus, r and rw : once and re-writeable).
It burns some discs faster than what it says on the disc, for example some 8x discs will burn at 16x. However I have had some discs that are 8x that only burn at 4x speed. It depends on the media, not all are supported at the claimed speeds, but some do exceed the stated.
I was eager to try out the Dual Layer (DL) recording facility and had purchased some Datawrite DVD+R DL discs for just under £4 each, which is still expensive compared to the approx £0.25ea for DVD+R single layer discs but competitive at the time of writing. The disc was not recognised...
