...Our old DC02 was getting a bit tired after coping successfully for 5 years in our busy household. None of our previous cleaners had lasted more than 2 years, so it was back to Dyson again. I took the plunge and bought the top of the range DC05 motorhead (£269.99 from www.freenet.ltd - £314 in the shops). Easy, clear set up instructions, fantastic to use - I didn't realise how much Dysons had improved in 5 years. The motorised brush bar really got the dust out of my carpets, they look like new. It picked up every hair from my daughter's bedroom - a miracle which no cleaner has been able to match. Its light, easy to use, follows you upstairs (great in my 3 storey house). ...I have just bought a Dyson DC05 Absolute with the Turbo Brush. The advert said it was the most powerful cylinder vacuum with no loss of suction and I can honestly say that it is the best vacuum I have ever used. Usually when I do my bedroom I have to get down on my hands and knees with my rubber gloves to get all the fluff, dust, talcum powder etc from the edges of my carpet. I used my new Dyson and the Turbo Brush got all the muck up even from along the edges and the corners. I was amazed and so pleased because my knees aren’t as good as they used to be. My old Dyson was the first cylinder yellow and grey one, this one is lilac and green, not really my choice of colour. ...Motorhead? It`s OK, you`re safe this time. Lemmy isn`t going to jump out and do a rendition of Ace Of Spades. Rather than give the DC05 a new model number, Dyson have simply added the affix to give the full model as DC05 Motorhead. The Motorhead is designed to pick up pet-hair. As many of you already know, I have two Boxer dogs. Boxers have short coats and seem to moult constantly. The Motorhead combined with the vacuum removes all of the pet-hair from carpeting! Judging from the dates of other opinions here on Caio, the DC05 has been around for a while now. I reckon the Motorhead was added about 10 months ago as it was promoted as a new feature when I purchased mine around 8 months ago. ...The old Hoover finally gave up the ghost and I bought a Dyson DC05 Absolute + Turbobrush. Wow, what a difference. After a couple of strokes over the carpet with the turbobrush, I realised just how pathetic my old vacuum cleaner had been. The clear plastic dust bin was rapidly filling up - particularly with hairs.It's good to be able to see the results. Now I can prove to my husband that he really is losing his hair! It's fairly loud and I can't always hear the telephone ringing, but I can put up with that for the great results. Emptying the clear bin is somewhat disgusting, particularly when it seems to stick inside requiring manual intervention. Always hold your breath before doing this! The exhaust air seems to be clean and doesn't smell. It's easy to lug around the house, and follows you as you move. All in all, well worth... Read review

...My Dyson DC05 Turbohead has been a nightmare from start to finish. The first one which came was badly cracked on the see-through part of the casing (which made me wonder just how durable the Dysons are). As the cracking had not happened in transit in the box (the pieces were not in the box) I was not reassured as to Dyson's quality control. The motorhead - which is excellent when it's working - soon failed to connect properly when I was using a 'raking' motion (necessary for carpets which have a 'grain') and sometimes even came right off. The engineer came out, 'solved' the problem and off I went again - until the next time. This has continued for about nine months. During this time the engineer has made four visits and I have been sent three parts (sometimes Dyson think that the problem can be solved without an engineer visit... Read review

...We bought our DC05 about three years ago, and at first we were very impressed. Suction was great and it was a real bonus not having to change bags. Following the instructions we washed the filters after six months and noticed an improvement in suction, showing that they had become clogged and reduced performance. After a few weeks we noticed that performance had again dropped and discovered that the filter had quickly become very dirty again. From now on it became necessary to wash the filters roughly every three weeks. We reported the problem to Customer Service and an engineer visited. He questioned whether we were having any building work done to create a lot of fine dust. Answer, "No". He thought that a rubber seal in the dust collection bin had lost its "stretch" so he ordered a replacement bin assembly. This was provided... Read review

...I originally bought into the Dyson story, though have never been greatly impressed by my DC05. The build quality appears lacking with the hose connectors being rather fragile imho, and cleaning power not being too great. I already have a Miele washing machine and can vouch for the quality engineering in that. I therefore decided to replace my decrepid DC05 with a Miele. Miele have recently revamped their range with a higher power motor (up to 2200W). Being a man I'm all for extra horsepower! The new models are slowly starting to appear on the shop floor (mine was from John Lewis). The Miele range seems quite confusing in terms of specs until you realise it is all based on a few things. 1) Power 2) Colour of unit 3) air filter (Hepa, S-class etc) 4) number of accessories included. The first things that struck me about this machine is the design, quality materials used, construction and overall attention to detail. All of these are of the highest standard. When I first used this machine, I was amazed at how its claims to not lose any suction soon proved to be correct. I was even more amazed that it removed cat hairs from my carpets with ease (in the past I have found myself combining a vacuum cleaner and a brush). The extending handle has really been cleverly designed so it can be extended to various heights just by pulling gently at it, so much better than taking poles apart. ...We'd had an upright Dyson for some years and had been very pleased with it, so when it finally died another Dyson was on the cards. Our new Dyson = My sister came home with our new Dyson DC05M/HD and on unpacking it my reactions were, "Oh no! It's not an upright" and then "What an awful colour" Green and Purple! eurghhh!
