Because memory IS Crucial!
Review of Crucial DRAM 512 MB PC2700 by

Advantages: Stable, Fast, Stable!!!
Disadvantages: Not as cheap as some other brands
...will be accessed as this is used as virtual RAM, but only goes a fraction of the speed, so it's not much use.
A good way to combat this is to have more memory. I would typically recommend anyone wanting a computer for desktop and light gaming use to have 512Mb. This will stop the hard disk being accessed so quickly into your session. For someone using a computer for heavy gaming, i.e. wanting to play the next generation of games(Half Life 2, Doom 3) I would say get 1Gb(1024MB) of memory. This gives you plenty of space to run windows and play the game with the bulk of it held in RAM and as such being faster, no frame skipping etc.
As for the actual speed of RAM. We'll just look at the current generation, DDR (Double Data Rate). While you may notice that some sticks of ram that are the same size are different prices, but usually...

PC2700 256mb RAM
Review of OCZ Basic DRAM 512 MB PC3200 by
roy.jennings1
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Loads of problems
...I came across OCZ RAM products after purchasing a new PC from a UK web based company called PC-DEPOT.CO.UK.
During the initial set-up of the PC, and installing of software, the PC often rejected the installation throwing up VxD errors and System crashes.
Eventually the PC became a working unit.
After just a few days I was forever getting system crashes and freezes. So I contacted the suppliers, who in turn sent a small program by email to test the fitted RAM.
This program proved that the OCZ (elixir) RAM PC2700 256mb was in fact the fault.
They agreed that if I removed it myself and sent it back they would replace it (foc). Before I could do this the PC crashed beyond recovery.
SO I purchased replacement RAM from a local supplier of a totally different make.
Having had to format the HARD DRIVE, and start from scratch loading...

My Dream Machine RAM
Review of Corsair XMS DRAM 512 MB PC2700 by
C_W_Monkey
Advantages: Very Fast Ram
Disadvantages: Not for all motherboards
...the dual channel DDR in the bios settings. Mine did it automatically, some motherboards don't.
It might be good to check your motherboard test report and see if these were tested in it. If they were then you're guarenteed they'll work. Corsair might also have tested it in the motherboard, check on their website.
----------------------------
Conclusion
----------------------------
Very fast RAM, not too bad on price either. This will insure that nothing drags your PC down in it's performance and will send it off the scale.
If it'll go in your motherboard, buy it. But it's not worth it if you're not using dual DDR, so just buy a 512 single stick, it'll be cheaper.
The instructions are pretty basic... insert the ram into the ram slot just about sums it up. But installing ram is pretty easy, plus they've given you 2 pictures...

Good middle of the range RAM
Review of Crucial DRAM 256 MB PC2700 by
J.Gamgee
Advantages: Reliable, Good value
Disadvantages: Not the fastest memory avaible
...is the ability to buy direct from Crucial, by doing this you get free postage and easy RMA's if there should be a problem – and Crucial do have a good reputation. I have always found Crucial to have excellent service and have received this RAM and other orders from them in as little at 16 hours (and that it free postage).
In conclusion I would recommend Crucial to anybody looking to upgrade a system or building a new system. It may be worth paying the extra for PC 3200 RAM if you have a motherboard which will support this speed or are intending to get one as the difference in price is minimal.
Guide to acronyms:
RAM - Random Access Memory (the temporary storage on your computer)
DDR- Double Data Rate (the ram effectively has double the data rate (except its not actually double in practice))
FSB- Front side Bus (The speed of the interface...

A Crucial purchase?
Review of Crucial DRAM 512 MB PC2700 by
Rabid
Advantages: Lifetime warranty
Disadvantages: None
...If my memory serves me well then it must be Crucial, for the past 2 years i have used Crucials 2100 DDR and was amazed with it from the very first moment that i placed my order (directly at www.crucial.com/uk) after reading a little on the website i discovered that all their memory modules (RAM) come with a limited lifetime warranty which basically means that as long as you dont mistreat the memory chip then you are covered for life!
Crucials website is so well laid out that you can select your motherboard and then be greeted with a selection of modules that will work perfectly for you in your chosen motherboard, guarenteed.
I bought a 512mb chip of PC 2100 (DDR 266) with a cas rating of 2.5 and immediately decided to tighten up the memory timings to 2-6-6-6 to see how stable the memory was, well needless to say that i am still...

Crucial to get good memory

In this case my PC takes PC3200 non-ECC DDR ram. A 512MB stick cost £61 inc delivery.
The CAS latency (another measure of the memory speed) is 3, which isn't at the best end of the scale, but Crucial are introducing a new Ballistix range with faster timings - though with an appro |
