Sunglasses after Dark - Hunter of the Hidden Races
Review of Sunglasses After Dark - Nancy A. Collins by  Guzman

Advantages: Stunning read, excellent penmanship and good use of very gritty descripive language
Disadvantages: None

...The Sonja Blue Chronicles This trilogy of books (Sunglasses after Dark, In The Blood, Paint It Black) encompass a very interesting concept; a vampire hunter who herself is a vampire. This is a review of the first book of this trilogy. Sunglasses after Dark opens with Sonja Blue’s (the principal character) incarceration in the high security ward of the Elysian Fields mental asylum. Unconsciously she slips into the nightmares of both the inmates and warders, perhaps to unrealisingly feed off the tortured emotions being paraded in these nightmares. This is not a vampire novel of the normal mould. The main character displays features of the normal vampire we know via the mainstream mediums of literature and film i.e. fangs and amazing strength, but in addition she can reach into the minds of others to read their thoughts... The Design Museum (London)
Review of Design Museum (London) by  jouk04

Advantages: Good collection
Disadvantages: Admission expensive

...The Design Museum is situated just a few hundred yards from Tower Bridge. I last visited about a year ago so there may have been a few changes since then. The Design museum is a repository for what are considered to be the best , or at least iconic pieces, of twentieth century product design. This includes furniture, tables, chairs, lighting and all manner of interior furnishings. The collection though mostly covering the modernist period does look incredibly dated. Modernism as a style has been around for over a hundred years now, and is fast sliding into a historical period, in fact it already has. When you go to the museum thinking Im going to see the best collection of modern industrially produced furnishings in the country you quickly realise that when you see them all together they are all now museum pieces. If you want to see... Read review

A Design Must Have!
Review of Design Week by  flufftier

Advantages: Informative, interesting read
Disadvantages: Some issues are better than others

...I have been subscribing to Design Week for about 6 months now. At the time I paid £150 for two years subscription. To buy single issues you should expect to pay £2.60. As indicated in the title, the magazine is issued weekly, and contains all the news and updates anyone working in (or interested in) the design world needs to know. CONTENTS, NEWS, EDITORS COMMENT The layout follows the same format every week. Upon opening the magazine you are brought to the contents page which also contains news on design agencies that have been awarded new contracts with well-known companies. These news articles follow on to the next couple of pages and these pages also feature a comment by Design Weeks editor. This comment relates to one specific development in the design world for example, new designs for city landmarks, etc. The news pages... Read review

Sunglasses A Necessity
Review of Telephonesonline.co.uk by  markd_uk

Advantages: Great prices, great phones, great service
Disadvantages: Gaudy website design

...to pay as much as I thought I'd need to. Of course, what I actually wanted to buy was the Twin pack and, sadly, telephonesonline didn't have this in their stock list, so I decided to browse through the rest of the content and came across a vast range of other telephones to choose from, all at rather unbelievable prices. Using telephonesonline turned out to be rather easy, though I would highly recommend some sunglasses before you approach the site. The design of the pages are relatively clean: across the top is the main welcome bar, including company logo and appropriate telephone numbers should you need to contact them in a hurry. The left side of the screen is dedicated to the menu, with simply headlines: under the "Go Shopping" title: *Half Price Telephones *Buy One Get One Free *Cordless Phones *Multi-Handset Phones... Calling all budding artists and designers
Review of Art & Design Foundation Studies by  orientalorange

Advantages: Too many to list here
Disadvantages: An early term start

...A year and a half ago I was belwildered about making one of the biggest decisions in my life. I was completing my Art and Design A-Level at Greenhead College in Huddersfield. This college has a wonderful Art A-Level, and is well known for being one of the best in the country. Because the students are of a high quality, the tutors encourage applications to Universities through UCAS, instead of, or in addition to applications to foundation courses. I applied to both, and got accepted at 4 universities, and also was offered a place at Leeds College of Art and Design to do the foundation course. I was literally torn between both options. I had managed to whittle it down to a chioce between 1 particular university and the foundation, but the advantages and disadvantages of both seemed to be equal. As you may have gathered, I was in a real... Read review

Get into your design with InDesign
Review of Adobe InDesign CS 3.0 Complete package by  ozzape

Advantages: Plenty of options, able to import many formats, straight forward use
Disadvantages: Not cheap, can install slow on older machines

...Having used InDesign since version 1, it is fare to say that with every release Adobe have improved and enhanced this product. InDesign is a good competitor to the industry standard DTP package Quark, plus, thanks to CS2 and CS3, it is a good competitor to both Microsoft Publisher - and Word. Primarily this is a publishing and design package, allowing you to create the layout for books, magazines, leaflets, etc. Not to mention CD/DVD covers, cases and inlays, plus calenders, certificates, brochures. Bundled with Adobe Bridge, you have easy access to stock photography (excellent when you need a photo of a someone eating a cake) plus plenty of templates to get you going with you next design assignment. The most predominant difference between CS2 and CS3 is the layout of the software. The layout of the user interface is in... Read review

i-lash Designer Eyelash Extensions
Review of i-lash Designer Eyelash Extensions by  lilyellowfish

Advantages: Look great and natural for the first few days, cheaper than other brands
Disadvantages: Only last 2 weeks, look clump, false and weigh down your lashes after a few days

...I am going to talk about these eyelash extensions from two points of view, the therapist and the customer as I do eyelash extensions and also have them done. I have used both these and Hollywood Lash Extensions, you will see throughout this review that I favour Hollywood Lashes and you will read why. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ About i~lash Designer Eyelash Extensions ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ i-lash Designer Eyelash Extensions are one of the most well known brands of semi-permenant eyelash extensions, that are mainly available in the UK. The eyelashes are made of individual polyester strands that are supposed to be shaped to fit the natural lash. As with all semi-permenant eyelash extensions, they are individually attached to each lash. i-lash Designer Eyelash Extensions boast lasting up to 2 months, with regular... Read review

A Passion For Interior Design!
Review of Interior Design by  Venetia

Advantages: little cost for so much opportunity.
Disadvantages: none found yet

...Having taken a career break to bring up my little boy and having a passion for interior design I decided to further my interests and enrol on a course. I found the perfect 'home study' course that was enjoyable as well as informative and that I could fit in around looking after my son who at the time was only one. The course was run by the National Design Academy which is a centre of excellence for Interior Design and related subjects based at Rufford Hall, in Nottingham. It is set in seven acres on parkland next to the River Trent, situated one mile from the famous Trent Bridge Cricket Ground.. The aims of the academy are to teach practical skills to a professional standard whether 'in studio' or through 'home study' with a recognised qualification and advice on starting up your own business so that you can enter a career... Oxford Dictionary of Modern Design
Review of Oxford Dictionary of Modern Design - Oxford Paperback Reference by  Martinscholes

Advantages: Highly useful
Disadvantages: Could do with a couple more illustrations

...The Oxford Dictionary of Modern Design is a paperback dictionary of modern design. (No surprise there, then!) Well, yes, there is a surprise as some contemporary dictionaries of modern design are very badly designed, mistaking modern design for inappropriate type fonts and garish colours, which does distract and detract from the message they are trying to put over. But this is not the case, thank goodness, with the Oxford Dictionary of Modern Design. It is exceptionally well laid out and the information contained is presented in a way that is sharp and contemporary, yet grounded in commonsense and best practice. The book covers all aspects of modern design. Covers great design concepts, such as Nancy School, Bauhaus, Art Nouveau, vernacular, psychedelia, modernism and modernismo or modernisme (it explain in succinct terms... Read review

Designs for life
Review of Tau-designs.co.uk by  ln01

Advantages: Easily accessible
Disadvantages: Havent found any yet

...Tau Designs? What’s that all about then? I here you cry. Well, Tau designs is a company that specialises in designing web sites, and if their site is anything to go by then they are very good at it. After entering the address www.tau-designs.co.uk (nice and easy to remember) you are presented with the Tau Design title screen and are given the option of entering the site via Flash or HTML – Its nice to have the choice. You are then presented with a brief introduction and if your browser is Java compatible then the pop up menu will appear on the left, if not then you can click on ‘Site Map’. This will then open another small window containing the menu. Again, it is nice that the site caters for all. You also have the option of emailing them if you have any problems and adding to favourites. The menu contains a number... Read review
