Flybook
Review of Dialogue Flybook A33iG-tri-b - TM5800 1 GHz - 8.9" TFT by bluerose28

Advantages: small, bright screen, highly functional, tablet/touch screen
Disadvantages: touchpad/nib gets dirty/stuck, no cdrom/dvdrw drive

...Every so often something unusual but brilliant comes along, from a company you've never previously heard of, but you want to know more about. The Dialogue Flybook is a prime example, I fell in love with it from the beginning. I bought my Flybook (in blue) about a year ago and have been very happy with it. To be honest, I was actually helping my friend buy a laptop, but saw this and had to get one for myself too. It's small, it comes in many different colours, it's highly functional with lots of connectivity options such as wifi, bluetooth, and a gprs SIM slot so you can even make calls on it or surf the internet using your SIM! It also has 3G. This is a light (1.2kg), ultraportable little device. It's got a small, bright tablet screen that also comes with a stylus so you can tap the screen instead of using the touchpad. The stylus... Read review

Small but powerful and expandable
Review of Dialogue Flybook by pmcrannog

Advantages: Too many to list!!
Disadvantages: Only has 802.11b

...I've been on the hunt for a notebook for ages, and specifically a notebook as I really don't want to lug a huge laptop with 16"+ screen to university, I have been using an old 233Mhz laptop, which although I very small (only 1" bigger than the flybook) it is getting way to slow for my liking. Also I have been looking for a convertible, so one that can act like a laptop and as a tablet. I really like this idea for when reading books on the computer, seems so much nicer been able to hold an 'e-book' rather than being fixed in front of your desktop PC. There have been two main notebook convertibles I have looked at in the past which you may also be interested in • Acer Travelmate C111TCi • Toshiba Portégé m200 With the Acer being the lighter of the two at just 1.4Kg (the Toshiba is 2.1Kg). Toshiba Portege R100 Review
Review of Toshiba Portege R100 - Pentium M 733 1.1 GHz - 12.1" TFT by bob_j4

Advantages: Wireless networking, Very Light, Very Fast, Good battery, Sensitive touch pad, Nice design
Disadvantages: Small screen, Sensitive touch pad

...I bought my laptop in march for £1,300 and it is fantastic, it is a lot better than the previous Toshiba laptop I purchased which was also very good. I am yet to find a fault with Toshiba's products and service. I damaged my old laptop twice and both imes my warranty dealt with it brilliantly. In my opinion they are second only to Sony. Weight and size are very important to me, so this is ideal. The battery is great it lasts me 5 to six hours depending on the task, which is a lot better than any laptop I've had before. The wireless LAN is also very good, easy to set up and works a charm. The touch pad has a few little problems as it has too many functions, e.g. certain parts of it will send you back to the last internet page and other parts will scroll a page when you just want to move the cursor. I suppose it is a good feature if you... Read review

Sony Vaio T1XP/L 1.4KG laptop
Review of Sony VAIO T1XP/L - Pentium M 733 1.1 GHz - 10.6" TFT by matty168

Advantages: Small, Portable, Nicely Designed
Disadvantages: Charging time,Build Quality and Overheating

..., it has an Intel Centrino 1.1 ghz ultra low voltage cpu, 512mb of onboard RAM, 40 GB hard disk, cd rw/dvd drive, as well as a 10.6" lcd screen which has a very clear and precise image. There are also two usb ports,a firewire port, pcmia card slot, memory stick slot, VGA port, memory stick card reader slot, modem, bluetooth, wifi and audio controls. The built in wireless card allows you to connect to a wireless network which is very handy-this is operated by a small switch. It also has built in bluetooth functionality too which is again very handy if you want to transfer files or information. The laptop itself is bundled with Windows XP Pro edition and the various bits of software and leaflets about the Sony range of products. However you don't get the restore CD's incase you need to do a system install but there is a a feature that allows you... Read review

***JVC MINI NOTE-UPDATED***
Review of JVC Mobile Mini Note PC MP-XP731 - Pentium M 1 GHz - 8.9" TFT by lgray

Advantages: Fantastic for out and about use
Disadvantages: PRICE!!!

...For all you computer users who need a pc that is great for out and about use, and need a pc that is small. This is the mother of all small pc's. I looked through the magazines that i order my PC's from for myself and my shop. I came acroos this little thing and was amazed how much technology the could fit insuch a little space. (34x225x175mm) *General* The processor is at a reasonable speed for getting things done quickly at the expence of battery life (3.5 hours). Ram memory is @ 256mb which is good for those demanding programs but dosnt really fit with the 1GHz Pentium M processor. Hard Disk is @ 40GB not sure of the RPM. The Disk Drive is a DVD/CD-RW which means that you can read DVD format CD's. You cannot write a DVD-R or RW only CD-R and CD-RW. Screen 10.6" with a top resolution of 1,024x600 which can make the text on the screen... Read review

Excellent Budget Laptop
Review of HP Compaq Business Notebook nx7010 - Pentium M 1.6 GHz - 15.4" TFT by markays

Advantages: loads of features, excellent battery life
Disadvantages: not compact

...This laptop has all the features you need, 802.11g, bluetooth, All built-in and work well. The computer is fast and responsive unlike other laptops. The battery life is excellent (around 3hrs 30 in practice), the widescreen screen is also fantastic for dvd movies which play well in the dvd / cdrw drive. The in-built speakers are good, but i prefer to plug in some quality headphones in the headphone socket. One of the best features is the graphics card which offers many opportunities for connecting to projectors and second monitors quite easily. The laptop is quite thin, but not in the compact range, so if you're looking for a tiny laptop, do not go for this one. I carry mine in a laptop rucksack I bought, which works very well for when i travel abroad. Overall, for the price, this laptop is excellent value, all the features you... Read review

M 7400
Review of Fujitsu Siemens AMILO M-7400 - Pentium M 1.7 GHz - 15" TFT by leontata

Advantages: Nice design
Disadvantages: No DVD reader or writer

...Over all, this is a nice laptop. Slim and sharp design by Fujitsu Siemens Amilo makes it much thinner than it actually is. Intel Pentium M 1.7Ghz, Front Side Bus 400 Mhz seems not to be very powerful but it is not slow at all. Games like Counter Strike or Warcraft will have no problem. I've tried running Counter Strike at 1024x748 and the result was awsome, 99 frames per second. However, the mainboard and Bios are quite old. Intel 82855 doesn't support extending memory bandwidth for its Intel Extreme 2 Graphic Card like others do. 512 Mb PC2100 Ram doesn't seem to fit with the processor as its speed only at 266 Mhz. Replacing a new pair of Ram at 333 Mhz or 400 Mhz will give this laptop much more ability in multitasking and more chance to avoid crash. The keyboard is also really nice, comportable, hard button and support with lots... Read review

Dell 1300
Review of Dell Inspiron 1300 - Celeron M 360 1.4 GHz - 15.4" TFT by jadoon27

Advantages: Excellent: Battery, Price, Delivery and Wifi
Disadvantages: 3 kg

...I finally decided on this laptop after some research - I originally wanted a faster refurbished PC but realising the problems this could cause with overheating I opted for the Dell Pentium M 1.8Ghz. I got this in one of the regurlar deals they have online and in the paper, I wanted the Pentium M since it was known as a better processor which uses less battery. This is true, I paid £11 more for the extra power battery and it will last almost 5hrs! It has 512MB RAM, DVD +-RW, Wi Fi, Network/Modem, USB 2.0 etc... The computer seems perfectly fast for my needs, internet, email, word, basic film making and photos. It has got loads of preloaded software (Free trials, internet, photos etc...) which are really annoying, but once I got rid of the ones I didn't want it was great. The best piece of preloaded software was being able... Read review

Fantastic Device
Review of Fujitsu Siemens Stylistic ST5020 - Pentium M 733 1.1 GHz - 12.1" TFT by abdrewawolfe

Advantages: Battery life, versatility, full functioning PC in a superb form factor
Disadvantages: Seriously consider the manufacturers keyboard

...on Ink Anotations and mark it all over in red pen, green pen... The wireless has a superb range, performance (with 512MB) is fine, it runs Dungeon Siege 2 pretty well. I have found the manufacturers Infrared (not IrDA) keyboard with track pad a great accessory - prop the tablet up in the portfolio and use the non attached keyboard. Being infra red, not bluetooth the batteries in the keyboard last ages, there are two large receivers on the tablet that let the keyboard work from most angles. The keyboard does everything else on the tablet when I'm not in meetings handwriting notes. There is a standard IrDA port on the tablet as well as the big ones for the keyboard. One other note if anyone is thinking of the leather portfolio case - you can use EITHER the standard or the large battery on the tablet in the portfolio... The bottom holders... Read review
